Apparently, he has a lung condition that could cause internal bleeding when undertaking physical exertion - eg bowling.

Bad luck for the Duke - he'd become a T20 specialist, and probably had a few years left on the T20 circuit where he could have picked up some handy cash. Probably not IPL-level, but would get a game in every other league.

In his day, he was a damn good ODI player. I remember posting after one terrible game 'Can we just have Hastings open the bowling from both ends'? A lot of times, he WAS our best ODI bowler. He did get sent on a lot of the tough tours, where some other bowlers were 'rested' or pulled out due to a hangnail or something.

Sad way for a career to end, was a fantastic ODI bowler particularly around 2015/16 where he bowled well and more than chipped in with the bat on occasion. While his test match didn’t go well, getting AB de Villiers as your test wicket is something that we’d all take.

While obviously would be better if he could be playing, looking forward now to hearing him in the commentary box
