For the first 4 rounds, the Hawks have looked worse than us and their players seem to have less of a clue. If he's capable of still producing good results, why isn't Longmire?

Hawks list is past it but yes he is good enough. Longmire goes ultra defensive when we have the best forward of his generation in the team.

Don't know why you're all complaining that Foote was left in, he did well last week. Had a bad game this week and should be dropped sure, and if he isn't dropped then it makes sense to complain about it, but now? Lol no. Dropping Newman & Aliir was dumb though, especially Newman who was playing extremely well and now may have lost confidence (hopefully not).

Depends on how much he was responsible for list management.

Whoever was behind letting go Biggs, Nankervis and Membrey needs a good kicking. Could have done with those three last night.

Doesn't matter how good list manager is, if selectors don't play them not much list guys can do.... cough cough alliar, Newman etc

He's made some mistakes, like any coach, but were you saying the same thing last year when we were top of the ladder? To say he has nfi is just plain stupid, he will turn it around.

He has shown no ability to adapt though. we have had a huge list turnover since 2012 nd we play the same outdated style. Having the exact same gamestyle/setups despite having a completely different list with different strengths and weaknesses tells me 2 things. Either its all john knows or he is not willing to change

To be fair 2016 was mostly due to our senior players having career best seasons rather than Longmire doing anything brilliant, of course he can coach but he intends to go defence when the team is in trouble rather than attack which is how the game is heading.

This! 2016 was off the back of the brilliance of our players. Nothing special by Longmire.

I am not saying that Longmire is not making some mistakes and maybe some things need to change and he may deserve some criticism right now. But if people are blaming him for our losses this season but saying that 2016 was only due the brilliance of the players and not giving him any credit then I don't think that is fair. Those same players are playing pretty crap right now so is it all the players' fault?

First down patch since 2008 and you're all throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Relax. We'll get 10-15 games into the likes of Florent, Alliir, Mills, Heeney this season, and then have another pre-season and go again.

The cattle hasn't really been there at the start of this season, can't put that all on longmire. I don't care about the first 5 games any more, it's all about how we go from here. Work out a game style for 2018 that will win games (attack more) and start working on it.

They have to be or we're a rabble on and off the field.

In an hour of footy we saw the future of footy kick 60 points to our 3. That hour should be analysed and our strategies should be build around not just negating how GWS played, but in replicating how they played.

Definately suitet to coaching teams with less talent, but a team with franklin, reid, rohan,papley, tippett, heeney,mills, parker, kennedy and hanners should not be battling to kick 70 points

Your comments here are very very hard to disagree with. However, we must be certain we are battling to kick 70+ points because of management / game plan. Of the players you mentioned here are some thoughts;

Franklin - still a gun
Reid - hasn't played footy in a year and he needs his position cemented rather than forward/back etc.
Rohan - underdone and played only 1 game
Papley - underdone and played only 2 games
Tippett - soft as butter, but also played limited games. Needs consistency in whether he plays number 1 ruck or 2nd ruck/forward
Heeney - underdone and played only 1 game
Mills - 2nd year player showing 2nd year signs. Would like to see him moved to the wing permanantly
Parker - Just HAS to be carrying an injury, if Dangerfield/Geelong didn't have such a good draw I would suspect he would have won the brownlow
Kennedy - Absolute bull still
Hanners - Injured for sure but starting to show signs

There are excuses there for 7 out of 10 of the players you mentioned. I know excuses are like assholes but I feel we need to see these players running at 90%+ to get a real gauge on the teams chances this year.

if they're out there at the start of the season they are not injured. actually, if they are out there at all there are no excuses. it makes me laugh how players bad form is attempted to be explained away with injury when there is no logic or evidence provided.

You can't replicate players that hit targets

This is the problem. For all of our why don't we play another style we just dont have players who can consistently hit targets with serious kicking. Compare the following:

buddy leads to his right. Sam mitchell hits him with his right foot. Buddy leaves left, sam mitchell hits him with his left. He leads right or left and keiran jack cant hit him but if he leads straight at him he can. Hanners gets the ball in space and hits buddy's opponent on the chest. lloyd gets the ball in space and hits a 17 metre pass at 45 and buddy has now led 60 metres and the only way he is going to get it is if he circles around the player on the mark.

Our players were designed for a style of play that the afl isnt a big fan of. we aim to crush the opponent put pressure on them and keep them to less than 70 points. the afl is happy if the ball is allowed to be thrown to a team mate so long as it doesnt create a stoppage. it sucks but thats where we are at.

For all of Bedford's just leave them in the forward 50 - every single side bar us does have one pair of players 2 kicks from the play, but never any more than that. you cant really have them at the other end. but it would be nice to have some players 70 metres from the ball so that when we do win the ball we dont have to wait for our players to run 100 me to be in position for the next kick

Nankervis is an average ruck but has reasonable skills around the ground and lays a decent tackle. He's been well beaten in first 4 games at the Tigers. Not sure he would have influenced too many results for us this year.

Agree Melican looked ok in preseason game but was on rookie list but not sure why he wasn't elevated earlier. What ever Newman did wrong in Eagles game it must have been something that the rest of missed.

to be fair melican has mostly been injured up until now but he definitely should of been played ahead of labile early in the season.

biggs has been a minor player in the bulldogs team. nankervis isn't mobile enough around the ground for mine and he is too short to dominate in the ruck. membrey maybe but i don't think he is the type who would of made a difference to our current predicament.
