Had one of, if not the best game of his short career tonight. Had about 20 possessions, including 9 in the first quarter, and took about 10 marks which helped see the Legs to a 6 point nail biter. He was brilliant all over the ground tonight, dropping back and taking a few saving marks in defence. He really stood up and put in a great performance. He's surely edging Clarke in the pecking order, can’t believe the disparity in talent even at Meesen’s young age.

All this means is we have a up and comming player to trade at the end of the year cause in my opinion just like Watts the alarm bells are starting to ring

STFU, Drummond is allowed to be excited for John Meesen development rate just as you’re allowed to support hacks like Scott Stevens. It’s simply your prerogative to support whom ever you like and pump there tyres up as much as you like.

John Meesen is going to have a very bright future (where he plays his football) the same can not be said for Scott Stevens.

Drummonds football credibility >>>>Daylight >>>> Southerntakeover football credibility.

Thanks for the info Drummond, even if it was a bit askew :D

Lets see what Snoop thinks about this...

and id have to agree.

Way to try and kidnap the thread. You still cant justify your Stevens hating, and id have to say that Stevens, as our starting Center Half Back appears to have a bright future.

Tell me this, do i make thread after thread about Scott Stevens? No. He isnt in my list of favourite players, but i give credit where its due, and i think its about time some of the baggers took their medicine and give credit where its due. Good supporters dont hate players on their team. :(

Ive already presented my reasoning on the Meesen issue, and if you could read, youd see that Drummond accepted my points as valid.

I don’t hate Scott Stevens, I just don’t respect his football talents and I don’t think he will be able to perform when the heat is on in finals.

What quality player has he beaten where he has been one out all game? No one as he needs help from other player (Nathan Bassett and Ken McGregor) and the 2 wingers to zone of there man and help out.

Ben Rutten is a quality AFL and has proven this as he will consistently beat his man on a one on one contest, he doesn’t rely on other player to zone off and help out in marking contest.

 You're kidding right?

You STILL try to hijack this thread after saying you werent going to try and argue anyone in the last one?

You are now asking stupid questions. No player is ever one out all game in the Crows, thats just a mark of how great a defense we have. Players drop back in nearly every contest. Rutten does NOT play whole games one out with one on one contests, as someone like Bassett nearly always drops back infront of his man.

Stevens not only held his own against Reiwoldt, beating him in the one on ones, he hurt the Saints with his rebounding run, and good kicking skills. Thats a good game from a CHB.

Now do you want to try to get back on topic?

In fact if you go back and read a few thread from round one you will find that he was my first choice player to go back to centre half back and allow Neil Craig to keep his structure. Why wasn’t he selected (as you so correctly pointed out) to play against Collingwood in round 1 or as that much needed defender in round 2 against the Eagles?

Coincidentally he has only been in some good form in the last 5 week when we have played again teams that don’t have the same skill level or can not match our intensity.

So before you sprout crappolla about me hating a player, get your facts correct.

If he continues to suceed will you make a written apology to the man himself?

As a supporter id rather cheer on my players, than sit back and hope they fail.

I will be more than happy for him and will say so if he can show he is up to the rigours of AFL football against quality side like the West Coast, Collingwood and Sydney. He is yet to do that so I am sorry if I don’t have any confidence in him just yet.

I was very anti Michael Doughty (anyone on hear will tell you that:eek: ) but I had him 2nd on the best and fairest count at this point of the season and best team man now and to win it it at the season end; he has changed my mind and I am happy to say he is a quality AFL player. Not a few game wonder.

I want to see him perform on the big occasion before I will be convinced that he is a quality AFL player.

Pardon me for butting into an argument here but.
You've got to be joking, Yes he has played 3 good games (well 1 good one 1 contributing and 1 serviceable), and he is playing far better than most thought possible.
BUT do you seriously think he will hold that spot when some of our guys like Welsh and Perrie come back?
He might have done enough to stay on the starting 22, Back Pocket (extra tall, loose type)
But to proclaim him the 1st choice CHB with a bright future is quite a stretch.

With the way everyone is playing, it will be hard for Welsh and Perrie to break in to the team, even when they are our 2 goal kicking forwards. Everyone is playing so well, that if you play 1 bad game your out. That was the case with Stevens earlier this year, he played a bad game and he was out of the team. Now he has been given more of an opportunity and now he is showing what he can do. He needs to keep on playing very well to keep his spot- same applies for everyone.

I think if he continues in this vein of form, yes he will hold his spot for the rest of the year. This is something ive changed my mind on recently, as i thought in the Ian Perrie thread that it would be a natural move for Kenny to take CHB and Ian to take back his CHF position. I just dont think you can drop players who are playing as well as Stevens is. I also am starting to think that Craig doesnt want Kenny as his starting CHB, as he seems to prefer the rebounding types. Really the only player that would force Stevens out the team is Bock, and that would only occur if Stevens hit a poor stretch of form. Stevens will not be dropped for player recovered from injury, if he continues in his current form.

The only upside to our high injury list, is that players have the opportunity to come into the team, and lay a claim to the position they play. Stevens in the last month and a half is an example of having done this.

I have doubts about how much

These comments was heavily scrutinized over the weekend:

: Stiffy18
We pick up the paper in the morning and we find out Meesen had 10 touches, 3 marks and 5 hitouts

Seriously, its geat to hear he is doing well on consistent basis

: Macca23:
stole my thunder Stiffy!!

I was going to add "and not in the best players"!!

Meesen is building though, and that's a good thing for him and us

Southerntakeover:
Take your hand off it and stop hyping the poor kid... he's got enough pressure being our highest pick in recent times and all.

I've been to SANFL games before, ive seen Meeson play. I also watch the televised game every week since theres no other footy on saturdays, and can form a pretty good opinion of him based on these. Your credibility on issues involving Meesen, or our ruck divison isnt exactly flying high anyway. You run around declaring the second coming of christ in Meeson every time he gets a kick. I get it, you like him.

Starting threads like 'John Meeson- Champion', when he isnt regularly in the best for his SANFL side is a severe case of jumping the gun. Ive done the research, the SANFL site has put Meesen in Norwoods best twice so far this year. Thats not champion level yet pal.

Meesen, Porplyzia rated highly

Developing Crows ruckman John Meesen continues to improve his game and was rated highly by Adelaide’s SANFL observers on the weekend[/COLOR][/B].

Meesen, who turns 20 on Tuesday, had an interesting duel with Sturt’s Power-listed ruckman Fabian DeLuca but was particularly impressive around the ground. He had 19 possessions and took 11 marks.

Think we owe Drummond an apology based on his match review comments on Meesen - turned out to be spot on

I for one agree that Meesen has been excellent for most of the season and is getting better and better....starting the season as backup ruckman and now firmly #1 ruckman and an important one at that.

He will be a premier ruckman!

Yeah, the advertiser had Meeson in their top 5 AFLers in the SANFL section... definetely a good sign, i just wish hed appear more often, and would demonstate by doing so that he is ready for AFL football. :thumbsu:

Note though- my comments which youve boldened never challenged that Meeson may have played a good game... they were directed more at Drummonds hidden motive... the kill Clarke campaign, which he freely admits to.

I agree there has been a bit of an anti Clarke campaign....IMO Clarke was going to retire last year and is effectively helping the club during the transition period to Maric, Meesen and co.

In addition he is helping coach the lads....does he therefore deserve to be criticised...again IMO not sure what people expect from a game weary 32 year old but he's doing an OK job and still ranks better than any current option available to us.
