sorry for being late on this, but i JUST realized that johnny bennel has been delisted (yes i have been living under a rock for past few months..)

anyone can give me info on the following:

- why?
- how was his 2009 in the vfl?
- did he nominate for the draft/psd? maybe we hope to rookie him?

i thought the guy had a lot of promise, simply based on the stuff i started to read about him when we first drafted him. for example:

Bennell, well what can I say, easily the most skillful aboriginal boy I have seen for a long time.

Unlike many aboriginal boys he has a frame which could see him make his mark in senior ranks, big shoulders.

I havent seen too many boys have the same sort of control of a football as he does and it literally appears to be on a string. His one handed pick ups and quick hands are amazing.

Lightening across the turf and has a big vertical leap.

thx for the info guys, and for taking time away from luke ball threads :p

Johnny Bennell there was some talk that he wanted to return to WA (Due to home sickness). Which would be the most logical explaination.

Would be disappointed if we just got rid of him for the sake of making room for another rookie.

Personally really like his game and in our final against North Ballarat was our best forward with 4 goals and looking like our only lively target up forward on the day.

He is a super speedster and is really lively around goals. Really saw and still see allot of potential in him and hope he makes it to a team like West Coast because I see him making it at AFL level.

I really thought he'd be a fine player. Oh well.

Aside from the final he had a pretty ordinary year. He missed lots of games here and there with random "injuries" - who knows what was going on. Rumour was he left because of homesickness. I hope he gets a chance at WC in the rookie.

Heard he broke his Shoulder/Collar Bone

Rookies dont often get delisted after one year, especially if they've had injury concerns. He didnt set the world on fire but by the same token he had little opportunity. Played a great game in the finals though.

Clearly there were some in-house issues where club and player decided to part company. Nobody seems to know what the story is - but I'd lay money there is a story - and kudos to the club for keeping it in-house. Its really none of our business.
