194 cm players that can play all over the ground are hard to find.

As wrong as it sounds to say, Judge is spot on.

I'm no blind MJ supporter, however don't let your anger get in the way of sound list management.

If we lose him or trade him I wont lose any sleep.

Nor would most of us.

However in regards to list management if we do not get a good offer for him, better to look at maintaining him.

For Johnson to be cut - how many axings are some of us advocating?

To me there are quite a few changes that would be made before even getting to MJ's name.

Rookie list gets space for a couple of developing players and our annual mature age punt (Sibbo, Shepp and Pearce gone and Lower elevated) and this includes Ruffles getting another crack and I would probably de-list and rookie Bollenhagen.

Main list - well take out Schammer, Crowley and Hayden (ret). I assume we will lose at least 1 if not 2 to trades (hopefully for picks). To me I would think MJ offers more in insurance than a Van Berlo - so that is 5 picks there.

How deep is this draft that we need to be going any deeper than the say 5 rounds?

It's sad when he cops a bucketing. He isn't the one who selects himself.

Sympathy is a 1%.

He has the skills to be a very good AFL player, not sure he has the mindset to play 4 quarters of high quality.

Offer him up, failing that - settle him in a role and hope that with a fully fit squad and that the footy dept rewards form .....hopefully he responds. If not there is cut number 1 for the following year.

Agree with Moo. Think he should get a contract for 2012, but def think he should only get 1 year. That said, I fully expect him to be given 2 years. :(

MJ will definitely get a two year deal. Bit harsh really. If measured on the McPhee/Anthony contract scale he would get five.

How many times have we read this script before? Headland, Croad, Medhurst........

It makes the coaching staff look incompetent when someone who looks disinterested is selected every week.

Harvey said that if it wasn't for the injuries he would havee been made to start on the bench or as sub. Seriously, WTF ?????

Huge endorsement from Harvey on the radio tonight. Basically called him untradeable. Need to hear it again, not sure i believed what i was hearing.

Basically said we'd be looking at Mitch Clark if he became available also which i think is a bit of a surprise. With Sandilands/Clarke/Griffin/Johnson/Keplar not sure where Clark could fit in.

Call me soft but Im just not willing to write him off yet. I mean at the end of last year he was fantastic for us, and does anyone remember when he started with us?? He has the talent, theres no doubt.

Firstly I wonder if he's been carrying injuries this year, but mostly I'd love to see what kind of effect having to fight for his place would have on him. I mean I think offering him a reduced contract and making him start the year in the WAFL could just do the trick.

Or maybe he just needs someone to tell him the truth. It worked with Gary Ablett jr. He was lazy, his team mates told him to htfu, and he's arguably the best player in the comp now.

Probably Im wrong but I want to see him have one more shot.

Yeah that statement, actually both of them, are a bit ordinary...

Karl also asked Harvey if we were going to get rid of Solomon.

This is from a guy who wrote a review of our list in the paper over the weekend. I wish I got paid to comment on shit I know nothing about.

although I'm already on record as saying I'll not defend him anymore, he does have beautiful vision. When he gets it in transition you can pretty much guarantee he'll see something really optimal and get the ball there by foot beautifully. His cross-field kicking is generally excellent. What shits me and obviously others is the half assed efforts in contested situations and the inability to take a pack mark. we practically have no forwards who can take a pack mark other than Fyfe.

Disagree.. and anyway I dont think pack marks are what we should be aiming for anyway..

Collingwood have Cloke and Dawes as two strong marking forwards. Other top teams have similar setups.
Tactics with regard the forward press may have changed over the years, but the basic fundamentals of a strong forward target never have.
Its a required position that we need to fill.

Why what are you suggesting ......kicking it low onto a leading forwards chest?

What poppycock.

Too right. Cloke & Dawes are a huge part of what makes Collingwood so hard to stop. Cloke is a beast at dragging in a mark in practically any situation or at the very least bringing it to ground. That goal he created for Blair against us was genius.

I'm suggesting a more comical approach of a key forward line setup of Johnson @ CHF and Keplar @ FF.

The ball will spiral from a mungrel punt in to the forward 50 with MJ pointing out to Keps where he thinks the ball will land. Kepler will stumble over the ball as he tries to pick it up followed by some selling of candy to no one and proceed to kick the ball through the goal as he ends up on his arse. All in true Freo fashion.

It's like you could go down to your local Video Ezy and find DVD titled: "Follies into Freo's Forward Fifty" in the comedy section... ;)

I guess didnt see my post.. I said I disagree that Fyfe is the only player who can take a contested mark. I would say he's the only freak but he is not our sole option. Remember we have an AA forward in our team, and the tallest heaviest player in the game, just for starters.

And I would hope we are aiming for slightly more sophisticated tactics than bomb it long to a pack. Especially with the way teams move the ball on the rebound these days.
