Had we not drafted Jolly we likely would have drafted.

14: Luke Tapscott/ Ryan Bastinac

46: Troy Taylor/ Jack Fitzpatrick

Will be interesting to come back to in 3-4 years time.

For now in my view as I'm sure many other Collingwood fans would agree trading for Jolly was the right move to open our premiership window now and to help us out in areas of our game we need help in most if we are to beat the top sides.

But with that said I'm still really interested in how thsee prospects listed above will progress, I rate all 4 players I listed above to all develop into good players at AFL level and can see them all being a strong chance to develop beyond Jolly, but with that said they will not provide the immediate support that Jolly will and will likely not have to same impact on the team that Jolly will.

Yeah nah, I'm happy with the big man.

Definatelly Jolly. A top tier ruckman in his prime. As far as I'm concerned, one of our best trades this decade.

Obviously Melbourne had their eyes on Luke Tapscott, so what if we took Tapscott at 14, leading Melbourne to take Ball at 18? Then we wouldn't have Ball or Jolly.

I reckon out of all our pickups this year, Jolly is the most important one to bring us closer to a premiership.

R: Jolly, Ball, Swan
HOW ****ING GOOD DOES THAT LOOKK!!?!!?!?!

Mid - Didak - Pendlebury - Davis
Foll - Jolly - Ball - Swan

How about that then;)

would have to have used 30 on youth and 14 on ball had that been the case

I'm an all or nothing in that I was rooting for Ball to land from the senond we got Jolly.

I was always of the opinion if we got one I would want the other, but not one without the other.

So potentially our draft could have looked like:

(Without looking at Ball + Jolly)

14: Luke Tapscott
30: Jack Fitzpatrick
46: Troy Taylor
62: Josh Thomas
75: Matthew Panos

Clearly this is the all situation and I'm very pleased we have both Ball and Jolly, both are immediate helps and great fits into our lineup! And glad we have them both.

I always saw our premiership window to be 2-4 year down the track as opposed to 1-2 years because of our young players developing. But with Ball + Jolly our premiership window is forced to be now. Still would say even with Ball + Jolly still another full year away from a flag, but 2011 I see being the year we go all the way.

I see Geelong (Milburn will retire and list will get another year older)/ St Kilda (List will be aging and passed their primes)/ Western Bull Dogs (Johnson, Akermanis and others are set to retire at the end of the year) all dropping off a bit by then. And our current 21+22 Year olds developing further and reaching new levels. With the 18+19 year olds also developing further and becoming stronger contributors.

Having got both Ball and Thomas has been great in that we have got both someone who can contribute right away and a quality youngster who will fit into the side pretty soon. So couldn't be more pleased with how both the draft and trade period has gone. Has gone near optimally.

Would have loved Troy Taylor at 62, was getting excited when he was still around at 50, but really that is just nitpicking.

Not. Our biggest issue this year was when we got smashed in the ruck and bigger bodied midfielders. Getting Jolly and Ball adresses this weakness directly and gives us a great chance of progressing further while we still have Prestis services. I really like the pick up of Buckley as that late there are no guarantees and we've got an AFL quality player - and outside mid to boot which is a great fit for us. I'm only concerned we didn't pick up any KPP's but there is really no point if we don't think the ones available are any good or will be better than what we already have. So it would have been nice to pick some up but if the ones available weren't up to it in Hines eyes i'm not gonna worry about it too much. Hopefully we pick some up in the rookie. Does Grimes have the ability to play KP KWrqr?? I know he has the height.

Totally in agreeance, Ball + Jolly is a big step forward! Both address areas of need.

Grimes I have listed in my "Drafts over the years" thread with my pick 85. (http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=650637). Grimes to me would serve as a backup key position back (with Prestigiacomo nearing the end) I see him as a necessary backup. Also can see him playing a Jimmy Clement type role down back if for example Reid + N.Brown fit into the key position posts down back which is why he would have been my choice. Has a great attitude and has really good closing speed. Really rate him and can see him developing into a consistant AFL level player.

Buckley still wasn't at all a bad selection, just I liked some of the other talent available more.

Simple question, DO YOU WANT TO WIN A FLAG OR NOT?

Basically, by taking Ball and Jolly and and not picking up any kids in the first 3 rounds, we have improved our team short term, maybe with a little bit of kick back long term if we don't achieve the ultimate.

But we are now a real strong contender to win a flag, something we really haven't been since 2003.

The next 3 years is our time to shine, we will play off in at least one Grand Final, and euphoria awaits.:):thumbsu:

I'm delighted. We've drafted pretty young in the last few years and now obviously the club is about to have full on tilt at it before Malthouse steps aside. After that Bucks can build his own list and take it to glory. Our time is now :D
