Can someone tell me what the reason is for all the fuss over Wood? I can't say i know anything about him, how good is he?

Against the cats he was servicable but was an option on many occassions (more than Richards and Bryan have been for us) so he really looks like he has the smarts and wants to learn and will develop into a solid ruck in a few years
 
I think most of the hype around Wood is that for his age he has shown a great ability to tap to advantage. Everyone knows how long it takes most ruckmen to be AFL ready and Wood is nearly at that point and has great tap work. From what i have seen Wood's work around the ground isn't dynamic but is effective.

As for the suggestion of Rusling plus a 1st rounder or a second rounder for that matter please be serious. I am not the biggest Rusling fan in the world and am very open to the idea of trading him. Put it into perspective Chris Tarrant an AA center half foward got us a number 8 draft pick and steak knives (medhurst) A 26 year old ruckmen is not going to get a 21 year old foward with tremendous upsides and a 1st round pick or second round pick for that matter.

100% Jolly is a good ruckman but not in the top 10 of the afl so he wont get as much as you want for him

There you go and simmonds and sandilands havnt had great years but they are alot better then jolly i rate jolly but he isnt in the top 10
 
I tend to agree that we should be doing everything we can to woo Jolly to the Lexus Centre. In saying that, I wouldn't be offering up Bryan, and as it stands with Richards, unless Mick has changed his thinking I think he will still be around. So I think that pick 12 and perhaps some like Ben Davies etc.. could be added in as a sweetner.

It's not that I don't like Ben, I do think he is a great footballer, but I cant seeing him getting another crack with the Pies as their seems to be too many others who are getting a spot ahead of him.

I think that Jolly would be a great asset to the team in regards to Josh. If the two of them were on the park at the same time fit and on target, we would be pretty impressive. All we would need to do then was bolster our midfield!!!
 
If we are giving up a first round pick I'd prefer to go with Woods who may take a while longer to have real AFL impact and is more of a risk. However his upsides and the fact that he would be at peak form and maturity around the same time as the rest of our list just seems smarter.
 
But if the club want Jolly bad enough, then they will offer what they think will seal the deal I guess. It doesnt matter what we think it is worth.

Wood > Meesen > Jolly > Moran in so far as their value to us right now IMHO. Jolly is the best ruckman currently, but he is five years older than the others.

Talk of Rusling for Jolly is absolutely crazy. It's widely held that Sydney overpaid for Jolly when they got him (as they did for Ted Richards), and given he's at or past his peak now, his value hasn't gotten higher than a late first-round pick.

We need to trade for a younger ruckman than Jolly, who is going to be peaking with Dawes/Reid/Thomas/Pendles/Stanley/Anthony/Brown/ Clarke/Wellingham/Cook/Rusling etc. etc.

Who here thinks Luke Hodge is just now starting to hit his peak? Well, he was drafted in 2001, six years ago. You can estimate from that that Thomas and Pendlebury might be nearing their best by 2011. That's why Jolly's value has a ceiling for us.

Yeah, that sums up my thoughts too. Jolly is a good tap ruckman (not much around the ground, though), and if he were three or four years younger, I'd be all for trading for him. But he's not. We'd be much better off focussing on Cameron Wood.

Sorry but Sandilands isn't better, he's just a giant, and not even as good as Burton was, and you're kidding if you think Ottens and Seaby are better.

Ottens is a far greater player, in his versatility and value around the ground. Seaby and Jolly are about on par, But his ability to go foward probably makes him a better all round player

Much agreed with the sampler Wood n Meese much more ideal then Jolly for us

You make some good points here - but I disagree that Meesen has anywhere near the value of Jolly right now, even given our "window".

I would much prefer Wood to either of those guys, since I rate him very highly and he's already shown he's capable at AFL level. At worst we know he will be a solid ruck.
Meesen hasn't shown anything yet. There's nothing to suggest that he'll ever be nearly as good a ruck as Jolly is right now. 5 years of a solid (if not spectacular) ruckman are worth more than 10 years of a complete unknown.

As far as trade-value goes:
Wood - Unfortunately the game-time late in the year will raise his trade value, and I'm afraid that we simply won't get it done without a first round pick and a decent player (i.e not Lonie or Holland).

Jolly - About the same as Wood. What Sydney paid a few years ago makes no difference, he'll fetch a first rounder + a fringe player. I imagine St.Kilda would have to make a serious bid here given their list structure.

Meesen - Early 2nd round pick would suffice I'd think.

If that's Jolly's price then St. Kilda can have him.

Also, if Wood and Jolly's price is the same, give me Wood every day of the week and twice on Sunday. ;)

LOL, the situations are so very different. If you don't want to pay the price for Jolly, you won't get him, there are other clubs interested. Good luck with Richards and Bryan.

Unfortunately people dont agree with you buddy Jolly goes alright but isnt worth what you up price sydney supporters would want for him he sint worth a 1st rounder
