Just a reminder not to cross the line, BF does have rules we all abide by regarding mental health issues and unacceptable comments and jokes. Feel free to discuss any topic reasonably but please think before you post.
And please stick to the topic only.
Thanks.

He had fun with 100 young lasses by the time he was 18.

If you weren't envious of him, why would you be here judging him?

Why do you want to kick a man when he's down?

What sort of idiot are you ??

His sexual exploits are not the issue, it's the sending of dick-pics etc to women who he either didn't know or didn't ask for them.

How can you sit there and suggest that behaviour is acceptable ??

If you want to worship at the altar of Patton then knock yourself out, clearly your moral fibre and mine are at polar opposites.

How likely is it that Patton us sitting there thinking to himself "WTF? Most blokes I've played with over the years do exactly the same thing!"?

He is going to have to accept that he is basically the AFL's Weinstein in all of this. Would be thousands of women going through old msgs now trying to dig up anything on current and past players. Its a guaranteed spot on the news at the very least if you can find anything scandalous.

It isn't. But I'm not going to sit here and moralise about it. I've done dumb sh*t too.

And when I ****ed up, I didn't have the Melbourne media talking about it.
That's the job mate. The amount of education they get from when they begin their careers they know they are held accountable to different standards than average joe. The pay offs are numerous in many areas.

Of dozens of people I know - myself included - I have never ever heard of a doctor or someone turning anyone away that needed someone to talk to and mental help, because they aren't legitimately having an issue.

Now that either means everyone is having an issue, or nobody gets turned around with 'nah mate, that's just normal life stress and emotion, can't expect to be rainbows and sunshine all the time', and until I do, I will always be sceptical. There's zero accountability in the mental health system apparently.

If you presented claiming to have a tumour, you'd be told quick smart if you didn't actually have one.

Sure enough as those caught breaking COVID lockdown or doing drugs or drinking in season aren't the only ones, but if you get caught you are the one who has to deal with the consequences.

That's life mate, we probably all speed at times but its only the ones that get snapped on camera that cop it.

How many people seek help that don't legitimately have an issue?

Seems the issue more often than not, is not enough people actually seeking help, more than the other way around.

They don't tend to hospitalise people for no reason, is it really so hard to imagine that he's having some acute issues related to the public nature of everything that's going on?

They don't tend to hospitalise people for no reason
They don't release people who they reasonably believe might be a hazard to themselves, they have no objective measure for that and must make a judgement - treating answers to questions like "have you had thoughts of hurting yourself" or listening when a patient says anything about stepping out of their current existence, wanting to disappear or more clear longings to end their lives.

They don't get to have a second go at a failing in the worst case there, so they play it safe.

And that's fine.

Just curious, does everyone realise how difficult it is to get a mental health bed in a hospital (even a private one)?
This isn't an excuse he's using, and there's far more to it.

Exactly. It’s like everyone has forgotten this is the same bloke who was picked at number 1 and touted to be the next Wayne Carey. Instead, has suffered multiple knee injuries and will most likely be just another forgotten AFL player when he retires. While i don’t condone his actions at all, its hard to just say he’s ‘pulling the mental health card’.

Also, one other thought. Is it not possible for the receiver in those unanswered messages to just delete their conversation and make it look like he is pandering her with constant heys and hellos?

Is it really non stop harassing when one of the screenshots dates back to 2014-15? If that was the last correspondence its a very long time ago..surely Patton saying "hey" 8 times in a row isnt exposure worthy is it? He would have been 21-22 at the time.

A couple of things that need to be addressed, the facetime stuff for eg is disgusting, but we cant have everyone digging through years old msgs jumping on the bandwagon trying to get a gotch ya moment. Thats not how it needs to play out.
I see where you are coming from, but if what was said (even if 5 or so years ago) truly was disgusting and unacceptable why should he get away with it?

It's very important to remember that just because they may not have come forward when it first happened doesn't mean they weren't upset or offended by it. Maybe these people were afraid to come forward at the time but now those fears have been erased after seeing others do it.

Whilst he's clearly done the wrong thing, I'd take a stab that the only reason they didn't delete the conversation, or screenshotted things, was that he was someone with a public profile.

It wouldn't be the first time someone has saved stuff sent to them by an AFL player to show to their mates.

It seems that public shaming is all the rage these days however there is a school of thought that public shaming might do more harm than the sense of justice does us good

Of course what Patton has done is absolutely inexcusable and his behavior should be brought to task but there is case to say his actions could have been reported differently without causing further hurt and embarrasment to all concerned.

You can’t tell someone not to come forward and talk about how they were mistreated because it might hurt the perpetrators feelings. It’s a sad situation because Patton is clearly mentally unwell and clearly always has been but he is a privileged person so he will have to cop it.

As someone posted earlier it would be interesting to see a player come out and out females who have done the same to them.

It's not just AFL players. Female friends have shown me screenshots of weird dudes messaging them before. There are some very disturbed people out there.

Sure, I've seen similar, but generally that stuff is shown in the moment and not stashed away for a few years later.

For better or worse, if you've got a public profile you need to be a lot more cautious than the average sex pest.
