Brown believes better days are not far away
July 29, 2012
Greg Davis

JONATHAN Brown is the first to admit he could be playing better.

Coming off an unhappy night against the Gold Coast last weekend, the AFL superstar today returns to the scene of one of the quietest games of his stellar career when West Coast hosts the Brisbane Lions at Perth's Patersons Stadium.

Brown had just three touches in Brisbane's 29-point loss to Fremantle there in Round 3 this year.

But those who think Brown may be a declining force, should do so at their own peril.

"It's been a challenge at times this year and I've shown some glimpses along the way but there's no doubt I'd certainly like to be in better form," Brown said.

Browny is 4th for marks by key forwards this season despite missing games, struggling to find match fitness, struggling for form and playing in a losing side. Still going strong Browny.

Jonathan Brown: Technically the Lions captain is an unrestricted free agent, but he will be a Lion next year. His contract has a one-year option the club will execute. Brown has had a solid year without being spectacular, averaging two goals a game and directing traffic in a young forward line. He still takes the best defender - and often two defenders - and is the heart and soul of the club.

Rutten gears up for toughest test against Brown
August 17, 2012
Damien Stannard

Tomorrow night's expected battle between Rutten and Brown will extend a rivalry between the pair that stretches back to 2005.

Since 2007, the big Crow has owned those duels, conceding only seven majors in five outings.

He kept Brown goalless in their most recent contest, in round 10 last year, although Brisbane's skipper still managed 17 disposals and 11 contested possessions in a 40-point win.

Rutten versus Brown is a heavyweight clash to savour.

Brown has no thoughts of retirement

BRISBANE captain Jonathan Brown has no intention of retiring any time soon and expects fellow Lions triple-premiership hero Simon Black to join him for another campaign in 2013.

Brown, who turns 31 next month, said he was a "realist'' but the prospect of future success at the Gabba was keeping him young. He said the club's young core was taking greater ownership of the club and was driving the climb back up the ladder.

"I know I'm coming towards the back-end of things but while you are enjoying your footy and while the group is heading in the right direction, I'm keen to keep rolling,'' he said.

"You've just got to be enjoying the training and enjoying the footy and getting some on-field success.

Lion king Brown wants to play on

The future once looked blurry for Jonathan Brown - then again, three serious head knocks in 12 months can have that effect.

But Brown, 30, is backing his battered body to hold out until the once mighty Lions regain their Midas touch - and reckons that will be sooner rather than later.

As speculation swirled around teammate Simon Black's future, Brown - off contract at the end of 2013 - said today he hoped to hang up the boots when the Lions were once again the toast of the AFL.

Ended up with 47 goals for the year, which is fairly respectable (Jack Riewoldt won the Coleman with 65). A few were writing him off five or six weeks ago, but he's finished with 20 goals in the last six weeks, and has finished the year in season best form. Based on that it's hard to say whether he's fading with age, or gradually improving after his recent run of injuries. Probably conflicting forces in play there.

I reckon a couple of years ago Simon Black had a bit of an off year, as he had just lost a fraction of pace and was getting caught out, but since then he has adjusted to the new time frame he has to work in, and is now playing much better. I reckon Brown might have to do the same, as he looks rushed at times. Anyway, he'll never be the dominant player he once was, but I'll give him a tick for the year. Well done Browny.:thumbsu:

Only played 19 games and took him a while to find form as you would have expected. Hopefully he goes around for another 2 years.

Another top 10 finish in the goal-kicking. :thumbsu:

I highly doubt that Kylie regards herself as a big enough celebrity figure to leave hints about the gender of her upcoming baby. You never know though! Lets all hope first and foremost that it is a safe and successful birth and then we can hope for a boy second:D:thumbsu:

Reported on the club website that Brown is not going to Arizona, but staying home with the (club) kids because of the imminent birth of his second child.

The club is still saying that 18 players will go though.
