Champion. Gun. Legend. Superstar. Words that get thrown around all too much in the media and footy world, but words that truly apply to this great man. So tough, so courageous, so sad to see him retire. Thank You Browny for entertaining us fans, leading the Brissy boys and inspiring youngsters to play the game

Nice display of class from some other clubs.

Sydney can't even do a tribute to an opposition player without talking about their past players and how tough they are as well;).

Probably bitter their COLA didnt net him during their 2005-2008 run.

Jonathon Brown embodied all that was good and great about Aussie Rules( not necessarily the AFL). And he did Warrnambool proud. Just wish that we had been able to recruit him from the Falcons.

Great career, great bloke too.

Can vaguely remember parts of the 2001 GF night (fair bit of it as blur) drinking with him and some of the old Fitzroy boys at Crown. Plus Pikey holding him up at Brunswick St the next day.

Of Grand Final celebrations the best story is not of a Brisbane one, but when his brother was part of the Redan premiership team in the Ballarat league. Late in the night when moving on from one drinking hole that was closing, Browny noticed that the premiership cup was still sitting on the bar, he took it and kept it with him when he retired for the night. Next day no-one at Redan had a clue where it was, with the club contacting pubs and anyone they thought might have it, after a couple of hours of no luck in walks Browny holding it asking if anyone was looking for it.

Some of the most courageous acts I've ever seen on a football field came from the number 16 jersey for the Lions. I loved the bloke even though he condemned us to our only wooden spoon in 2010. True champion of the game and a fantastic character to have in football circles.

A big thank you to opposition supporters of JB coming on here with their thoughts of our great man......we knew and loved him for the champ he is, but it is that bit extra special when others feel the same.

He was indeed an incredible footballer, Lion and just a damn good bloke.

His family must be so proud, and I know we are too.

For the first time ever I've changed my avatar in honour of the bloke with the lego snap-on hair.

God bless you big fella. You've given us all so many memories over the years.

A towering presence on the field, and in the sport. As much as he haunted us through his entire career, it was impossible to not have a massive respect for the way he played, and for how well he represented the Lions off the field

Not surprised to see just above every post about him mention him as a top bloke, a legacy that is as strong as his on field heroics. In an age where players are more guarded and protective of themselves than ever before, he was the last throw back... showing how to maintain dignity, while still being a knock about lad

Gratz on the career Browny, you'll be remembered as one of the greats

Brown can also claim that he single-handily changed on of the AFL rules whose impact will be felt by all clubs.

He can also claim to have single handedly obliterated a late model Hyundai, an impact that was felt by all cars within a 3km radius

Brown SMASH!

Within 10 years it will of gone from being a Hyundai, to a ute, to 4wd with a bullbar

Fantastic player and displayed all the traits we love in a big forward. It's hard to judge people you've never met but he always came across as someone who would be a ripping bloke if you got the chance.

I'm sure he was looked after financially well enough but I admire him for knocking back what would have been better money to return to Victoria and stay loyal to the club he loved.

The game is poorer for his absence.

:hearts:We will miss you big fella, but like all our legends, you will always be at the heart and soul of our great club.

Enjoy your new life with your lovely wife and family.

Thanks for the memories .they are pretty special.:thumbsu:

Greats, Superstar, Champion... All these terms get thrown around by the media all too often these days. These terms should be saved for footballers like Browny.
An absolute superstar, one of the games best and the way he went about it, commands respect from all that love game.

Have said this many many times before but Browny is by far and away easily my favourite player outside of Sydney players. Has always been since I first saw him. His courage and leadership is just about second to none IMO. On top of those qualities I believe he had an absolutely beautiful kick and great hands. The man could take a mark and kick a goal but he could also out work his opponent and do the things you need from a teammate. He blocked, shepherded, offloaded and backed up selflessly on top of some purely sensational individual performances to boot.

Massive respect and gratitude for his contribution to football and to us as the lucky fans that got to watch his performances over the years (yes, even when he was tearing us to pieces).

Just an amazing footballer, leader, character and person. I wish him nothing but the very best.

Thanks Browny!!

Congrats Jonathon Brown on a SUPER career.

I know a particular team that could do with someone like you in their team, You showed what it takes to play for the jumper and play with heart.
True Legend of the AFL!

Whatever I put down here ain't gonna be enough.

His legacy will be that he galvanised the players in lean years, after being a player of incredible importance in the strong and successful years.

His contribution to the club started on day one - sure we "wooed" him under the father/son, but he still made the decision come to play for the Lions - to continue an allegiance set up by his father in 51 games with the Roys, to join a merged side a few thousand kilometres from home - because that is what he thought was the right thing to do. I don't think we should underestimate the importance of that decision, and the contribution to our club that he made from that decision - he did what Marc Murphy wasn't willing to do.

And then, you look at the highlight reel. His playing style was best defined by THAT mark against Hawthorn at the G.

Brownie - thank you.
