Incredible to think he was on track to win the brownlow before going down with injury in 2006. He was leading the tally count significantly.

His form that season prior to the injury is the most dominant patch of individual football I have ever personally witnessed. Includes Gary Ablett Jr.

I think 2006 was the year he was playing at around 109kg and they slimmed him down to 104 the next year because it was just too much impact on his body running around at that weight.
109 kg ! Did he really ever play that heavy ?

Over that 10 game period he averaged 18 disposals, 10 marks and 3 goals per game. His most dominant string of games in this period was Round 7, 8, and 9. He kicked 8 goals in Round 7, 7 goals in Round 8, And 7 goals in Round 9. He was pretty much unstoppable.

I thought he did, but now can't seem to find anything to back that up. Maybe I just imagined it.

gonna miss you browny! I hope you still play a part in this clubs future. Just a champion bloke, great player, great man, and i am sure a fantastic father

Have to say I'm a little emotional about his retirement. Never experienced a feeling off loss from an AFL retirement as I have from browns. Terrific guy an absolute legend of the game. The whole football world has lost a great this week. Just such a house hold name, I will miss him on the footy show as well was always great in there. Hope he gets a role in the media as he is an exceptional, humble man. Thanks browny!

You gotta love this bloke and im glad for his health he has retired. On a personel note I am ever so glad I went to watch him play his last game. Even though it was painful.

I only saw him play live once in the Hall of Fame Tribute State of Origin match but he's been my favourite player in the AFL for many many years.

What a champ!

I was not ready for this.

Nor was I.

It was almost fitting that our last game of the year was to be played in Geelong at the very venue down the road from Warrnambool in what should have been his final swan song.

Just wasn't meant to be. Would have been such a fitting occasion had his body enabled him to reach the end of the season.

No doubt that fact wasn't lost on Geelong FC too.

05 and 06 were incredibly frustrating years as a Lions fan. We had clearly the best player in the comp at the time, but he missed almost as many games as he played. Paid us back in spades from 07–09 though. Was on track for his fourth consecutive 70+ goal season in 2010 too, before injury struck again.

Congrats to JB on a fantastic career; as a former Fitzroy boy who has keenly followed the Lions from near and far I'll always have a special place in my heart for the great man. The definition of courage in football should forever be linked to his deeds - a top bloke off the ground too. Cheers big fella.

Congratulations on a magnificent career. Just love the way he played real footy, the way it was meant to be played. Hard, tough and fair. A great example to any kid following in his footsteps. Well done JB.

I had to tell my 7 year old that Brownie was retiring,

he said "what at the end of the year?"
I said "No, now he wont be playing any more, he keeps getting knocked out and cant keep playing"
him "That's it, I'm not watching footy anymore"

He did repent a little while later to say he might watch some Lions games.

Considering my son had only watched him for the last two years, when Brownie wasn't the same, he still made a big impact.

Makes you appreciate the ride of the last 15 years. My favourite player.

Get Brown into a Commentary box!
ASAP with Voss too.
Love listening to Vossy and I can't wait for Browns no fuss footy commentary.

Would love to have Lynch, Voss and Browny in the commentary box with a "press Red for the Roar" type thing.

Would need a play-by-play guy too unfortunately, so Matthew Campbell might have to try and fake some love for his former club.

Get Pykey for the on the ground stuff. Couldn't see him bum tapping anybody

I used to hate Brown, he was too good and dominated my team the pies. I didn't realised I was wrong and I admire the guy. Epitomises everything we love about footy, skills, heart, humour, MEAT PIES. The reason he didn't join the pies. The world wouldn't be able to fit all of our big heads in it.

Richard Champion?

Just told my 5 year old son that Browny retired.

He broke into tears demanding to know why. When I explained what happened he was in a state of disbelief that his hero could be injured, "Browny doesn't get hurt, he always gets up." "This isn't fair Daddy, the Lions need him, I need him, I want to see him play again, this is horrible." He then promptly went off to look at this Browny footy card.

Broke my heart a bit, mainly because I agree with him.

We are and should feel privileged to have been able to watch this man run out onto the field in the maroon blue and gold. Unfortunatly monies tight for me this weekend and cant see him off. And my young fella (8 months) may never know the contribution browny has made to the club. Even though we will never forget
