I have seen plenty of him at Box Hill. Sure, he is above average at VFL level, but so is David Mirra and so was Sam Iles. He it not a level above even the way Langford is when he plays VFL. He has shown very little at any level since he was drafted, which was a long time ago. Why would another club pick him up just because he was a number 2 pick? He lacks polish, is mid-paced and injury prone. Delist. Rookie if we can't find anyone better.

Mirra is a key defender that's 10cm too short and Iles came to Box Hill after being delisted by two AFL teams. Ridiculous comparisons and your reasoning is just plain incorrect.

Lacks polish: I've seen a lot of good players perform in the VFL and I've not seen one deliver a 'polished' performance.
Mid-paced: Is actually quite quick, probably under direction to hold back due to his hamstrings. If he gets them right he goes back to being pacey.
Not above langford: 32 touches a few games back from injury, Langford hasn't reached that once in a VFL game.

I was looking for this year to be his make-it-or-break-it year. Hamstrings said no.

If it's O'Rourke or pick 80-100 in the draft I'd be prepared to give him one more year if Russell thinks he's worth investing in (injury prevention wise).

Those hammies need a serious talking to though.

They are not comparisons, just saying that from the maybe 10 times I have watched him at Box Hill plus his games at Hawthorn, I don''t think he will make it. If he was not on Hawthorn's list I would not be saying we should draft him. Just don''t see anything special. Sorry.

He'll be nearly 24 at the start of next years season, he's got one last shot to make it I think. I see people say he has all the qualities he is most sorely lacking when I watch him play an AFL game, he doesn't really seem to be tracking along, injuries aren't the only excuse.

Langford has an easily defined role in the team, yeah he has his flaws but I can tell if he does something well or not, O'Rourke has this inside/outside designation as if it he has won a ball and sprinted away from a pack once in his AFL career, I remember him being clean with the footy and helping with the run game and that was his best game before he played a few meh ones (couple of intercepts as well).

He is not getting a long term list spot backing up O'Meara, Shiels and Mitchell with Howe coming along nicely and Burton possibly moving in there, he has to be considered in the group of Smith and Hartung (who for all the crap he gets would run O'Rourke off his feet). Forward or back, zero chance.

Inside/outside sounds nice, but I don't even see the possibility of him playing both roles at once, he is fast but not fast enough and doesn't have the AFL ball winning ability. This sounds really specific, but I've seen him make some of the weakest handballs I've seen at AFL level consistently, does he have poor strength or something?

We have some great rookies, but it is a concern for O'Rourke that ignoring Fitzpatrick I'd rather keep any rookie over him. Is he behind Smith/Hartung because he is good enough to compete for that spot, or realistically is it because Willsmore has shown little (apparently also great at Box Hill though).

Confidence and experience may well be all he needs at an AFL level, I don't see him getting delisted, and I don't think our recruiters care that he was a number 2 pick. But I do think he should be on the rookie list.

The thing with JOR is you can't make a clear and accurate assessment of him as a footballer because... well... he hasn't spent much time footballing.

Look at Brand, Howe, TOB, Hardwick etc. These guys developed fantastically well this year and played as much if not more games THIS year alone the JOR has in his career overall.

He has some great traits to work with and I think if he ever gets to 50 consecutive games of AFL he'll be a player of note.

His body is the great unknown.

Rookie list for mine. No one is gonna pinch him guys
But this will require we use a Pick in the 100's.

And, we have to keep Pick 100+ for minimum 2yrs.

Would rather keep JO'R, who at least at some stage had talent/class (I'm sure he still does), than HAVE TO keep Pick 100+ for 2.

Edit: see Tasmaniac above.

Totally agree with you on this one Jables. Just little up-and-unders...

He needs to stay for 1 more year for mine. Pretty much similar to Alex Woodward situation. Where the playing potential is there. Unfortunately the hamstrings aren't.
Bad hamstrings or not next year he needs to prove to himself that he can make it. If his body fails on him next year, then I think it's time to say goodbye.

sven_inc You had a look at JOR's running style?
It's hard from afar but it looks solid enough. I'm probably a touch biased because I included him in my Cyril/Hammy article but from what I can see his spinal mechanics aren't amazing and his spinal shapes are horrible.

Really hard for Hammies to function like Hammies if you're not asking them to. As always it's hard from the bleachers but absolutely not bad luck/genetics etc at least from what I see day-to-day.

This thread just reminds me yet again how awesome 4Ps and Brishawk are as posters

:thumbsu:

You mean intelligent posters like TheFourPillars who go to all the games, follow the club closely and attend training sessions know more than other posters on this forum?

I have to go with that!
