He's certainly not the same as Sicily, Hardwick, Howe and Burton who have shown signs since day one. But not everyone is going to be top tier.

I think what Hawthorn have done well is get people performing brilliantly as role players. Stratton, Puopolo, Shiels as a defensive mid, Smith/Hill as wingers. These are guys that media folks would never put in the best but who are so important to the side.

Geelong must be good at this as well or they would have fallen off the perch by now.

I had the exact same or similar thoughts as you when I posted above, including about Geelong. I was thinking how this year I truly worried about their future, based on their lack of "pure talent", and yet we see them near a GF this year. Is their kind of list in the Hawks future? is that a bad thing? I really don't know. What happens if a team like GWS live up to their potential, a real dynastic team - where does that leave a list like the Cats? So deciding whether we have a mid like JOR as part of our future plans is part of these bigger questions, and not just whether or not JOR is AFL standard,

He is unique to our midfield in that he can play both inside and out.
Didn't have his best game last week. I know a lot of you have mentioned his pace. However I can tell you that he is quick and just hasn't extended himself no confidence in the body or been told to reign it in just to build confidence in his body first. He is in the top few at our club for endurance as well.
A big preseason coming up for him
Jom can play inside and out. I don't think ORourke is any quicker than Sheils.

How many games have you watched him play at Box Hill?

None, thats the problem. He can't get out of Box Hill. Every game he's played in the seniors he has failed to impress and has almost immediately been demoted. Based on feedback on this forum from people who do keep a close eye on Box Hill report that he isn't exactly setting the world on fire there either or hasn't even put together a string of consistently above average performances which you would think is a bear minimum requirement to staying on the list. Ultimately we have to ask ourselves where is this kid's ceiling? Is this it? He can blame injuries to some extent in 2017 but it can't masquerade the fact that he has yet to perform to the standard expected of him. One more season treading water will almost certainly see him delisted in 12months. I really hope that he lives up to the potential that more astute footy people than me have seen in him.

At least you admit you've not watched him at Box Hill.
He's not been able to cement a spot in the senior side for two reasons. 1. Constant niggles and injuries. 2. When he was actually fit Hawthorn were chasing flags, and his run of form wasn't enough to squeeze passed others.

O'Rourke has shown Box Hill watchers that he has the tools to be a more than competent senior player, but he's never been able to truly get a good run at it.

"He's obviously talented" is the comment you argued with, but to those who have seen him at Box Hill when he wasn't stumbling from injury to injury, he obviously is.

Whether he can get his body right, get confidence and find some good form again is another thing.

Watched last weeks game and for mine he has no confidence in his body and appeared to be running in quite a hesitant way, the man on his shoulder won't let him run free.

Hopefully that man on his shoulder has a long off-season & a strong & unininterrupted pre-season sees him drop that hesitation.

For once you're spot on..........

Bumps, I do concur.. I think we will see a make or break with him this pre-season, like I've said time and time again it will be his body that decides if he has a solid AFL career.

It's about giving him a consistent run in the Seniors, the way we did with TOB and that's worked out well! Issue is that his body hasn't allowed us to give him that opportunity. I hope he can get a decent run at it.

I have watched him numerous times for Box Hill and here is my issue....

Even when he racks up 30 he doesn't hurt the opposition with anything special. His field kicking is ok, his pace below average, his tackling is ok.

Nothing jumps out as X factor to me that would put him in front of one of our fringe players like Langford or Duryea but in saying that he gets another season to hopefully get some continuity and provide our ones with some depth.

Anyone hoping he will become a star one day unfortunately will be disappointed.

Solid AFL midfielder is his ceiling, but I'd like to see him on the list in 2018 as I doubt by delisting him we will get anyone better.
Harry Morrison was pick 74. Delisting the likes of JOR gets us more draft picks to find more Harry's. Would be crazy to keep JOR.

Jesus you talk shit
Since when does delisting a player get you more drafting picks

Hartung replacement perhaps?

Since the draft was introduced actually. HArry was the fourth last pick. We used pick 74 on him and 76 on Lewis. If we had delisted two more players, we would also have had pick 78 and 79.
Basic maths Champ.

You don't get a pick for delisting someone you get list space.
Saying a pick in the high 70s for JOR is a no brainer...

And if you have more spots on your list you can use more picks. I am glad you agree with me.
Which club beside North would trade even their last pick for him? If you watched him at AFL or VFL without knowing he was a high draft pick, we would not be having this discussion. He simply has not shown enough to suggest he will make it.
I would rather take a punt with the extra late draft selection.

And I'd rather give him another year if the club thinks they have finally sorted out his body, hell they could rookie him and he could still get games next year under the new CBA.
