There must be a defined timetable for his AFL return & rigid KPIs that he has to meet for his non selection to date.
If I were a betting man he would be getting a stack of hamstring work to get his explosiveness back.
His conditioning sounds like it is holding up & he had some solid form not long ago &has had decent numbers since he started getting tagged.
He has always looked tentative in burst situations similarly to Cyril off the back of his major issue year, 2014...??.
With Langford now injured the door has to open for him to come in!
In my opinion he should be getting a gig mirroring the role of Gaff & start on the wing & be the extra stoppage midfielder that can help inside & spread hard on clearances. Smith can go back to his preferred up/down gut running which should open up space for Hendo to get more involved playing the wing off of a half forward position.
It opens up space & still gets the spare around the contest & behind the ball.

We have to find a way at selection to help the midfield & generate some run off halfback. We look extremely dangerous when the boys are lining up to run it out!
Some fast ball movement can give us a chance to drop the forward line deeper with space as well knowing it’s coming in hard & fast rather that the crap that keeps getting dished up week in week out.

Jonno getting a go makes a bucket load of sense for me but I’m sure I will be disappointed come Thursday nights & again Saturday.

It's not like playing O'Rourke would hurt the clubs chances of winning. He couldn't do any worse than Langford as a midfielder. O'Rourke can kick and is a fairly good clearance player.

Exactly. Langford was horrible on the weekend. Can’t do any worse than he did

It's been posted before, but I'll post it again.

The club looks at a number of indicators when judging players on whether they are to be promoted to the senior team from Box Hill, and many of those indicators are not visible to those in the outer watching the game.

Personally, I think O'Rourke is much closer to the exit than the senior team. The fact that Newman has been playing O'Rourke off half-back rather than in the middle suggests that the club has made up its mind about him and his papers have been stamped, which then opens the door for other players to try their luck in Box Hill's midfield.

So Lovell’s papers must also be stamped, as he plays half forward

Has been listed emergency twice in two weeks since going to the hbf. Not saying you are wrong but it is certainly a confusing message.

Recently he's been looking less and less like he has paper hamstrings, and is performing more consistently at VFL level, so I'd agree with you too.

But then again we played Billy Hartung for the majority of the season last year and didn't re-sign him.

Hope he gets a run before the end of the season.

Yep when you are constantly injured and can not play at the level you want the confidence takes a hit. Not sure if Jono is a very vocal or confident person naturally but a few games and some faith might be just what he needs. KPI's do not always tell the true story. There is not a KPI for confidence as far as I know.

I think the club was hoping Hartung might live up to initial expectations as an elite runner, and felt he might be one of those guys who goes up another level as he progresses through the ranks.

They had a good look at him, and realised he didn't have the composure or tricks to do what Bradley Hill or Smith did/do.

The difference with O'Rourke is that they haven't had that look at him yet. I personally doubt this season is about anything other than getting games into his hamstrings. A lot of our midfielders have spent time off half back, or half forward.

I'm not in touch with Box Hill the way a lot of posters are. But I don't think a move back or forward would matter, particularly in light of the limited amount of footy he has played.

In fact, it actually makes sense to give him less work as the year goes on, or at least a small break from more miles in the midfield. Over exertion over a period of time might otherwise lead to another tear.

Ran into him at Spotless before half time and asked if he felt he was close to getting a senior game again and while he didn't specify what, basically he said he has a couple of things to work on in his game before getting selected.

Pretty much what a few posters in here have already said. Cheers for confirming.

See this irks me because we have guys that are getting selected that have deficiencies that stand out like dogs balls. Those guys should be told to come back when they hit a target, or stop making shit decisions.

Were tears welling up in his eyes as he said this? Poor bloke.

Edit: not sarcasm, as punters above have said we're hardly a team of players who have nothing to work on in their game.

You couldn't help but feel like he was a bit pissed about traveling up there and not getting selected as the late inclusion.

Well, I reckon he's becoming a surer thing for a contract next year. Makes sense to keep him on the roster given he's obviously handy depth. If he's close enough to be emergency, that's an improvement on where he's been for the last 12 months.
If we have a a clean out at BH, we are going to need some leaders running around that know our system. If Whitey doesn't stay, then JOR would be the next experienced head I'd keep around.
Whatever happens, he'd have to be on dirt cheap money, and possibly even less next year.

That makes it a little clearer why he's been moved to the backline. Clarko's go to. Maybe they feel he could defend better.

Personally, I'd have him learn that at AFL level.

He is and always has been an inside/out mid, as a junior he had a great ability to win footy and it also break away from congestion with some acceleration. He also used to out work his opponents and get into space, he has a tank and it needs to be utilised.

Hopefully we see him replace Langers this week, at least see if he can play
