This is the standard I like to apply when evaluating one of our own who hasn't shown the goods:

What does he look like to me if I picture him in another club's colors?
Does he worry the coaches at our club?
Do we have to game plan for him?
Can he hurt us because he can win his position well enough to do so?

If people are honest and apply the above, you'd be lost for a good answer that soothes your hopes for the kid.

He's bog average, maybe below bog average, and if he was playing for a stinky club you'd absolutely laugh if their supporters told you he could be the difference in the contest.
Go on, see it in your minds. He's got a Richmond jersey on, or Lions or Blues.
You'd call him a spud and move on.

I get everyone wants it to be different, and if he re-invents himself over the pre-season and is a beast next year - then he deserves every accolade. But to expect that to happen based on his play since he was 18 until now is silly.

I'm part of the camp that thinks the club should at least persist with him for another season or two. When I've seen him play he shows glimpses of what made him a top 3 pick but I can't for life of me figure out why he can't play like it consistently.

Of the 2012 draft group you could only call Viney and Stringer bonafide superstars of the AFL (and after this year maybe Daniher but he needs to improve his kicking).

And of the entire 2012 draft, off the top of my head the only players playing good consistent senior footy are; Whitfield, Macrae, Wines, Grundy, Mason Wood and Lachie Hunter so not an overly large group. I guess I'm just being optimistic but I think there's still a bit of development for O'Rourke before he kicks in.

And Rampe.

Probably didn't have the year he or the club would have liked but it's too early to call it a day on him. He hasn't even played 20 games yet and even this season was interrupted by injury which doesn't help confidence when your body lets you down. A big preseason ahead and hopefully he can get that continuity to really establish himself.

Way too early to write him off like some are doing on here. Sure he hasn't come on like many hoped but he's only 22.

A bloke like JOR is the reason we need to temper our expectations on JOM.

Was injury riddled when he arrived and although has found more continuity with us, has still struggled a touch with his body - as has Langford for that matter.

I agree he hasn't set the world on fire but I can't see that the powers that be go out of their way to trade for a dud.

Like Langford, its easy to lose confidence in a player who hasn't played consistent footy in the 2s let alone 1s due to injury.

The Scully reference is a good one too.

To be fair he was good enough to picked R1 and for the next 2 weeks. That says something about his potential and I remember being a little excited at his prospects at the time.

As much as I hate to admit but this is brutally honest and spot on.

If JOR was lining up against us we would be saying you beauty.

He has had a few ordinary years at the Guants and now 2 crappy years with us.

We were told he trained the house down pre season and the likes of Hodge and Mitchell were predicting a big spike from him.

Big season ahead for him but as we have seen with the likes of Ellis Muston Dowler Thorp just because you go high in a draft doesn't mean you will necessary become a top player.

Didn't Clarko say, when he first came on board as our coach, that you shouldn't judge the team until they've played 50+ games together? So how can we pass judgement on a kid who have played 18 games over 4 years? With the list turnover we're about to endure, I suggest we all get ready for a bumpy 2 years before we regain our rightful place on top of the mountain.

I have been unreliably informed that the club has lost faith in him. This stemmed from him being with Tallia when he was arrested. Poor decision maker both on & off the field. The person that told me was adamant that the club has told him he is not a required player next year. Not vouching for my source, but if he was traded, it definitely wouldn't come as a surprise.

that would be savage and in my opinion un-hawthorn like.

I'm happy to keep him.
I think if we had a ruck that could get us first possession he would come into his own.
I am convinced that he had had clear instruction to develop his outside game & defensive efforts this season.
Put him in with the knowledge that he will only developed at AFL level & I think the kid will shine with a fresh serving of confidence.

That would be fairly hypocritical being that he wouldn't be the only Hawk who enjoys a bit of the recreational substances. Not buying it.

I would say we will only start seeing Jono begin to come in to his own when the older brigade take up less minutes in the middle. Hopefully this can start next year and he can build confidence with JOM and TOM by his side in the midfield

Exactly my thoughts. We've known (and been covering) for years the fact that Lewis, Mitchell and Hodge aren't fast.

I might be wrong, he might be a cokehead who we are going to delist after not finding anyone willing to trade for him.

The same coach has dropped players to box hill and theyve never been seen again after as little as 1 game
