The same Paul Abbott who kicked 6 goals in a grand final?Yeh, but Parko said "make it" in AFL footy.
Ray got games, just like Paul Abott got games, but making it is something else.
C: Shiels (25), T.Mitchell (23), Hartung (21)
R: Ceglar (25), O'Meara (22), O'Rourke (22)
People righting off O'Rourke because he hasn't done much need to understand that he's only played 17 games in 5 seasons due to injury. Continuity and consistency could be the key to O'Rourke becoming a better player next year. I feel like he's one of those late developers who will hit his straps around 24-25.
When he came to Hawthorn I think a lot of experts expected him to be an immediate fix, when really he was seen by the Hawks coaching staff as a long-term prospect. I reckon 2017 is the year he starts to click as a footballer and we see the best of him. At 22 he's got plenty of time to turn things around. He could very well benefit from playing as the 3rd-4th string midfielder behind O'Meara, T.Mitchell and Lovell in years to come.

People "writing" off O'Rourke because he hasn't done "anything" need to understand that he's only played 17 games in 5 seasons due to injury "and middling to crappy VFL and AFL form". Continuity and consistency "at the expense of more deserving players" could be the key to O'Rourke becoming a better player next year. I feel like he's one of those late developers who will hit his straps around 24-25, "I mean, who doesn't want to wait another 2-3 years of watching him in the VFL?".
When he came to Hawthorn I think a lot of experts expected him to be an immediate fix, when really he was seen by the Hawks coaching staff - "and by that I mean me" - as a long-term prospect. I reckon 2017 is the year he starts to click as a footballer and we see the best of him, "or 2019-20 if my other prediction is more accurate". At 22 he's got plenty of time to turn things around "and buy a dive shop where he can have Talia over for fun times". He could very well benefit from playing as the 3rd-4th string midfielder behind O'Meara, T.Mitchell and Lovell in years to come, "and if not, shit - I'll just go back and edit this prediction".

Agreed with your method as I do the same. Also applies to trading as some hypotheticals are so one sided, you'd never accept it if the roles were reversed. This is the standard I like to apply when evaluating one of our own who hasn't shown the goods:
What does he look like to me if I picture him in another club's colors?
Does he worry the coaches at our club?
Do we have to game plan for him?
Can he hurt us because he can win his position well enough to do so?
If people are honest and apply the above, you'd be lost for a good answer that soothes your hopes for the kid.
He's bog average, maybe below bog average, and if he was playing for a stinky club you'd absolutely laugh if their supporters told you he could be the difference in the contest.
Go on, see it in your minds. He's got a Richmond jersey on, or Lions or Blues.
You'd call him a spud and move on.
I get everyone wants it to be different, and if he re-invents himself over the pre-season and is a beast next year - then he deserves every accolade. But to expect that to happen based on his play since he was 18 until now is silly.
I do like the look of that midfield !!!
Unlikely that JOR will be part of any midfield going forward, scrub player with no attributes that stand out. If he wasn't a former no 2 pick everyone would have written him off by now.
But I think by being a #2 pick it affords him the luxury of patience due to the likelihood of there being something that has yet to come out. I think we need to ease up on him a little as he was a #2 pick for GWS but only a pick 19 for us.

As a side note interesting paragraph towards the end of the artice:
"Hawthorn appears deeply stocked in the midfield with O’Rourke joining Billy Hartung, Jed Anderson, Brendan Whitecross, Mitch Hallahan, Jonathan Simpkin and Alex Woodward in trying to push into a midfield already containing Sam Mitchell, Jordan Lewis, Brad Hill, Isaac Smith, Liam Shiels and Will Langford."
Amazing what 2 years does to a list and perspective about that list.
Big pre season for jono on the metamucil methinks. Lots of no. 2's yet to come outBut I think by being a #2 pick it affords him the luxury of patience due to the likelihood of there being something that has yet to come out.
)JOR JOM and TOM will be the BOMB or I'll smoke a BONGAs others have said, the kid finds the right positioning on the ground but often gets ignored or goes unnoticed. I assume it's a lack of vocal presence on the field because I remember early this year he wasn't used in a couple of plays where he was in a position to break away from the pack. He works hard off the ball, has good foot skills but you get the feeling he plays conservative due to his hamstring issues. Schoenmakers was similar post knee reco.
Preseason this year he was being talked up and dominated our intra club game. That's no mean feat given some of thr guys playing so you'd have to say the talent is there, he just needs to confidence and continuity to convert that to AFL level. O'Meara and Titchell if both eventuate could potentially elevate him as a player as we will effective have 3 midfield spots open up at the end of next year and he'll be wanting one of those spots.
Hopefully he can find his feet and start to put in the performances he's capable of.
You sure you haven't already smoked that bongJOR JOM and TOM will be the BOMB or I'll smoke a BONG

New whipping boy. He's not that shit. He's just not that good yet. Patience grasshoppers

Who says that?As they say you cant turn s##t into gold can you ?
It's impossible. Unless you're Sydney with a Hawk father sonWho says that?
is that Stephen Gilham? It's impossible. Unless you're Sydney with a Hawk father son
The champ. Handing the cup over this year as a past hero of GWSis that Stephen Gilham?
Or you might have broken poppy if you did that. There's a trend....And I have a lot riding on his success.
(Goddamnit - why didn't I choose C3Puopolo - the suggestion of another poster after Jed f**cked off. Awesome username.)
