Baldness, cheating and South African-ness aside, is this guy the real deal?

After 12 months he's averaging over 60 at test level, and his ODI avg sits at 56 now. Not the best S/R, but he showed today he can score quickly.

I can't stand the bloke but he's been one of the most impressive newish batsmen to come down under in many years IMO. Can he keep it up? Or will he fall back to the pack after a while a la Mike Hussey.

For a guy that had just batted almost 50 overs (including needing a runner), his fielding was exceptional. Notwithstanding the dropped catch, which was pretty difficult.

As for his batting... I still find it hard to believe he is averaging 60. He has got a solid technique and a good mental game, but an average of 60 is outstanding. If you look at his record, though, he averages in the 60's against Bangladesh and Pakistan, in the 80's against Australia but only 27 against South Africa.

Basically, I don't think he has been really stretched in his Test career. Full credit for his Ashes performance. But Australia were shit and ALL of the English scored runs bar Collingwood. I think he'll prove himself as the "real deal" when he gets a few more games under his belt, particularly against India and South Africa.

Love watching Trott bat, he is awesome off his pads, yet clowns like Midge will just keep bowling it there for him.

Good fielder and turning in to a handy bowler as well.

I guess he's had a good start to his career, in saying that he hasn't faced a great bowling attack in either form against the Aussies, from memory he did nothing in the tests against RSA last year against the quality bowling from Steyn and Morkel, I'd like to see him show consistency against the best sides in the world like RSA, India, SL

Good player. Shits me to tears watching his drawn out routine between deliveries/overs but is a classy batsman once he eventually gets going. Profited immensely from the ineptitude of the Aussie attack this summer, but that shouldn't detract from his praising his performance.
