Traded Jonathon Patton [traded to Hawthorn for Future 4th]

Not sure why people think he is on 800k, does anyone have a credible source for this and in an article from this or last week it was written that he was on about 600k

His last contract was signed before season 2017 started by which time he had already had the 2 reconstructions and the knee issue from his first year and he had only had 2 relatively injury free years and the club has always been aware of cap issues so i cant see the club signing him for a 800k pa contract before his 2017 season which has been his best so far

And from the age article it sounds like he is very anxious about getting back on the field and he did seem like a confidence player and if it is really bad he may not even get back to the NEAFL level and just want to get back fit and healthy for pre season

Because the media and readers are more attracted to the big numbers. It'd be a bit boring and not as interesting, to actually quote numbers that are more logically closer to the mark. Always quote the highest amount possible as it attracts readers, it's the media motto.

Salary cap squeeze can't be that bad if they're paying a bloke $400k to not be there.

If it means halving their bill, then it's actually an argument that goes the other way....Nice attempt all the same.

$400K covers the pay of 2 first round draftees.

No way he is on 800k and discussed earlier on this page or the previous and he re-signed before the start of season 2017 having come of his 1st real injury free season having kicked 38 goals from 23 games in 2016 and recent media reports have mentioned a figure around 600k

as per the CBA draftees are on around 80-90 k pa for the first 2 years and depending on games played that could bump up significantly by around 4k per game played

it has also been discussed that both the Suns and Giants 'have' to pay high draft picks significant overs to get them to stay and based on some media reports it is 400k in the 3rd and 4th years which has lead to a few giveaway trades in the past

I've just finished reading this thread; seriously have not read such tripe for a long while.
It appears there are many agendas in play and much short sighted views.
How many blokes who have done so much trouble to the knees go out an become better than they were.
The best that can be hoped for is a good role player not a star - to take all views is best and it is up to club
and player how they want to go about things - that only those close know all the facts.

Really?

Leon was on tv saying otherwise
GWS forward Jonathon Patton is refusing to play at senior level or in the NEAFL despite returning to full training, according to SEN’s Time On host Sam McClure.
“Greater Western Sydney No.1 draft pick Jonathon Patton it seems has placed his AFL career on hold pending what is a near certain trade to Hawthorn at the end of the season,” McClure told SEN’s Time On.

“We can tell you tonight that Patton has been absent from both senior and from NEAFL grade football for the last month, despite the fact that he has been training fully.

“We know that he’s coming back from a third knee reconstruction, he’s played 89 games in eight years, but he has been training fully and yet doesn’t want to play at either senior level or at NEAFL level.

Looks like he may have been spot on.

Seems like an absolute knob if this is the case. Understand the reasoning, but doesn't come off as a 'team first' sorta bloke

Possibly but it depends on if he feels confident in the Giants medical staff. He is a 100KG key forward returning from his 3rd knee reco, another serious injury and he can probably kiss his career good bye. From the outside looking in it is hard to tell if it is entirely down to bad luck, bad management or a bit of both.

I think it is hard to begrudge a guy looking after his career in this case.

Yeah can't argue there, but Cam McCarthy pulled the same sorta BS, and we all saw how that worked out. Hawthorn are a much better run club than Freo or GWS, but player attitudes like that are hard to change, if they think they're the greatest thing since sliced bread

That's him not the club.

Doesn't change what I said.

Though if true it changes what I think about him.

Of course the media has been known to be full of s**t before.
