His name came up on our Trade thread last Friday I think.

Too many knee recos. GWS would probably want way more than anyone would offer. And I cant imagine clubs offering big long term deals to someone who is surely 1 reco away from medical retirement.
Pretty sure Gawns had a few reco's and is still going strong. Would be stupid to even think of getting rid of the general. It's ok to release a few for the cap squeeze but this is getting ridiculous.

We will take his 700-800k a year. We miss out on May/Lynch, loses Langdon, Fasolo.

Let's put the 1.5 mil we have in the cap to use, instead of paying Blair to play VFL and waste a spot on our list every year...

What does GWS want? We're actually doing them so a big favour... This 700-800k could be the difference between keeping Josh Kelly/Jeremy Cameron/Stephen Conigilio or not.

I don't think you understand what's going on. It's GWS actively considering trading him out.
Patton doesn't need to leave, he can just turn every trade request from the club down. With the way his knees are holding up he may just want to ride the next years out with a guaranteed income for himself in Sydney's his current deal on good money before his career is over.

We may well need his salary to hit the floor at our club....

The suggestion is that he would be traded to a club with plenty of cap space who would pay him the same money and duration as he would get at GWS, thereby getting the exact same guaranteed income. GWS would relieve some pressure from their salary cap, the club taking him would have plenty of cap space and give a minor pick in exchange for a bit of a dice roll that maybe he comes good.

Is GWS posturing to hold onto Shiel for 12 months by dumping Scully + Patton? Surely those 2 plus setterfield and lobb would have been on a combined 1.1-1.6mil next year so it puts GWS in a position where if essendon don't come up to what they are requesting they will hold him.

Doubt it the cap space money will be used for Kelly,Congilo,Whitfield on longterm contracts

Naaah

Shiel is gone. Sad but we're past the point if no return.

Welp I guess GFC aren't in the running then. We wouldn't pay that much.
