First up. Mainly see these guys through the State comp. U18’s in the SANFL and highlights but I thought I would give it a crack
#1 Stephen Coniglio-GWS

Why? Complete package young mid think Marc Murphy type, went him at 1 over Patton due to Coniglio having more of an impact in his first year. Had a great championship and is the type of player that will impress especially Sheeds and Choco, great kick on both legs and reads the play well.

Range? 1-2
Style? Murphy/Judd

#2 Jonothan Patton-GWS

Why? Victoria’s best young asset and the best KPF in the draft easily. Takes everything that comes his way with his great pair of hands, always takes it at full strength and has the kick to finish. Uses his body to great affect like Cloke, at 197cm and 95kg most of his muscle is already there and fills GWS CHF role for the next 10 years.
Range? 1-2
Style? Cloke/Brown

#3 Chad Wingard

Why? Even though Tyson had impressive championships GWS would have had their eye on this kid this GWS scouts had a job. Has that Aboriginal flair to him what Sheedy and Williams will love. His skills by hand and foot are superb. Courage and leadership is just another two things that he has ticked next to his name. I think his concussion problems has been over hyped and he is a huge chance to go here, goal kicking midfielder will do well and has close to the most potential in the draft.
Range? 3-6
Style? G Wanganeen (1995-2002)/Pendlebury

4# Dom Tyson- GWS
Why?. Considered Tyson at 3 but think he doesn’t have the flair Wingard does. Tyson rose his value during the champs from early second round to top 10 pick with his precision kicking and his precision. His positioning is one of the best in the draft, he is the complete package.
Range? 3-7
Style? Black/Dal Santo

5# Billy Longer- GWS
Why? Best Ruckman in the draft and one of the best young ruckman I’ve seen. He dominated the champs in ruck and his work around the ground is excellent. GWS need a young ruckman to work with Giles (while you would think Longer would be the #1) and they can’t allow him to slip to Port at 6. The 202cm monster is a genuine tap ruckman who can float down back or up forward. Uniquely is a left hand ruckman but a right footer what helps his left foot be nearly as good as his right.
Range? 4-7
Style? Cox/Clark

6# Elliot Kavanagh- PA
Why? A line breaking genuine midfielder is exactly what port need, a member AIS-AFL academy had hamstring problems what meant he miss out on the U18’s championships but last year was being talked as a 3-5 choice. Port Adelaide seem to have a history of looking past the U18’s championships so I think they won’t be too concerned about his injury that sidelined him from most of the U18’s this year. Huge ball winner who has great disposal by foot, something that port desperately need, has speed as a midfielder and height what is a huge plus for him his results at draft will be the determining factor about where he finishes in the draft.
Range? 4-11
Style? Boak/J Selwood

7# Matthew Buntine- GWS
Why? As I said before talk about him going at 4 with GC but regardless GWS will be happy with him here. Can play in the middle or as that 3rd tall down back. Reads the play like a 250+ gamer as he constantly knows where the pill is going. Matthew has Great skills by foot as he rebounds from the defensive 50. He is highly regarded for his leadership traits.
Range? 4-8
Style? Gibbs/Goddard (small)

8# Will Hoskin-Elliot- Bris
Why? A natural line breaker in Will is the last piece of the puzzle for the young Brisbane midfield, one of the best outside midfielders in the draft (depends if you consider Coniglio an outside mid), always damages when the ball gets into his hands. Probably the last “elite” player in the draft Brisbane will be happy he slid this far and get. Main concern is how much he accumulates.
Range? 5-11
Style? Fyfe/Smith

9# Michael Talia-GWS
Why? GWS Need talls and Talia is the best KPD in the draft they will have to take him here. More of a shutdown defender than his brother and did well on all of his high class match up during the championships (Patton, Elton, Bolger when he went forward). Just the height to be a true KPD at 193cm his height might be his only let down, scouts will be hoping that he grows an extra cm or two. His best attribute is his mark and rebound, even though he isn’t the best by leg most full backs aren’t (AA U18 championships full back).
Range? 9-15
Style? Frawley/Scarlett

10# Adam Tomlinson -GWS
Why: GWS need again need talls and a solid spine. Tomlinson is versatile tall who can play in most positions is mobile for being 194cm can play in a huge range of positions and skills by foot and hand are good. Isn’t super quick but isn’t slow either. Has a great mark overhead and knows when to mark and when to spoil also can spoil into the right position.
Range? 7-15
Style? C Cornes

11# Liam Sumner -GWS
Why? Think this is the last pick where GWS can afford to go with the best available policy and that’s what Sumner is. Liam is an outside midfielder who has great athletic capabilities and finishes that off nicely with good kick. Won’t rack up many 30+ touches games but will damage with every kick he damages expect so Sumner in do well in the meters gained column throughout his career. He put pressure on the ball carrier and tackles hard this will be improve as he is only 70KG at the moment. Will be the type of player who impresses at draft camp looking forward to seeing how he rates.
Range? 8-13
Style?

12# Taylor Adams-Brisbane
Why? Taylor kicks every box, great skills, went through the AIS, only think that is not making him a top 5 pick is that he is lacking that flair. Taylor is the type of player that will thrive at an AFL environment due to his work ethic. Considered Elton here but I just think if Brisbane are going to go tall it would be Tomlinson as I’ve heard that they aren’t too keen on Elton.
Range? 10-18
Style? Bartel

13# Todd Elton-GWS
Why? GWS need to find another tall forward and another ruckman in this draft. Elton here give them both. Todd attacks the footy with no regard to his own personal body. Todd was highly considered to be a pre listed GWS player but missed the cut, since then he has upped everything in his game and ready to make his mark on AFL football. Has a good engine on him and will run around most defenders put on him when he floats forward. The sub rule will greatly help forwards like this who can ruck part time (Elton is 197cm). Also can play down back (normally CHB) and uses his body well in one on one contests.
Range? 6-15
Style? Clark

14# Sam Docherty-GWS
Why? Sam is a small/mid defender in the Shaw/Johncock mould. GWS need a small defender halfback flank on their list, his kicking is exceptional and somehow it seems to get better when he is under pressure. Can play a shutdown role and then run off when required. He is one of the louder players (on the field wise) in the Vic Country team.
Range? 14-22
Style? Shaw/Johncock

15# Toby Greene-Rich
Why? Even though midfielders aren’t necessarily a huge need at Richmond, still think they will go with Greene here maybe it be different if Elton was still here. Greene impressed everyone during the championships by getting AA nomination and being metro’s MVP, racks up the ball as Toby plays inside and outside skills are good and has a great handball on both sides, possibly the last piece of the Richmond midfield puzzle.
Range? 10-20

16# Mitch Grigg -Fremantle
Why? This guy has been gone from top 10 to top 50 in the space of the last two months, but I still think he is too classy to slip outside of the top 20. Huge left boot, big bodied midfielder who can kick the ball 60m accurately. Not too fast but this is mainly his burst speed. Played SANFL league throughout the year and proved that he is AFL ready.
Range? 6-45

17# Hayden Crozier –Western Bulldogs
Why? Didn’t know what to go here with freom Crozier is a natural long left footer who can hit spot up targets long or short known for his x factor. Will put muscle onto a light frame as he only ways 68kg, but his biggest concern is how he can go missing from games, has a huge upside to his game though. Has good decision making ability as he always nearly every time picks the correct option. Highly considered Paine
Range? 11-25

Ok So after the top 17 this was taking way too long, will put my updates on why as we go

18# Brad Mckenzie- North Melbourne

19# Essendon- Devon Smith

20# Alex Forster –Fremantle

21# Tom Mitchell – Sydney

22# Jackson Paine – Carlton

23# Frasier McInnes – West Coast

24# Sam Frost – Gold Coast

25# Daniel Markworth – St Kilda

26# Myles Bolger- Richmond

Crozier is going to be a busy little be playing for W.B and Freo.... Also change carltons pick to best inside available we won't take a tall with our first pick.

Well i think Carlton will go tall with your fist pick if Paine is there, thats why its my Phantom;), they have enough mids that can play inside

And Crozier thing is changed

Have been looking at Taylor Adams lately to fit in at Brisbane, maybe a bit similair to Redden but then again could do a few more of him. With WHE have gone off him a bit due to the notion of possesion totals. This could and should be rectified in an AFL environment with the intellectual knoweldge that is there. Bit shy but then again Nigel Lappin was also another and if he come close to his standard then that would be a bonus. Glad to see you didn't put Greens in there for Bris, i'm not an overly huge fan. There is the notion of talls but can use our later picks there. There is the notion of the KPP's not being that highly rated but wouldn't mind Schade at 30 or Frost.

Yer well if WHE wouldn't slide any further but see your points, went Adams over greene because simply his skills are better and moreof a fit to the Brisbane midfield.

We'll agree to disagree then :)

But in a team that is basically in it's premiership window with talls already developing ( which gets over looked a bit I believe) I think/hope we'll go for the more ready made players ie; waldhunter, Nelson, kerridge clay smith types...

I'm not sure why people think midfield isn't a Richmond need. Our best midfielders are going to be very good. A or B graders. We have terrible midfield depth, though. I'd be wanting to see two quality mids with our first two picks.

Think most of them will be there at your next pick though

Danog, If you win a flag with this group of players you now have your midfield set nearly,

think your forward line is nearly set, if you get Bolger your ruck is set its just your defence that you need to work out

Where's Brandon Ellis?

Did consider him at nearly every pick from FOrster onwards, but couldn't really get him in, will be doing a second round

*Note that i would have favoured SA lads as i have seen them the most

No guarantees it will an inside mid either, especially with Curnow coming back.

Paine would be a great get at our pick.

Him, Ellis and Markworth are the 3 i considered and Paine is the best at the moment

Jonts, do you think you could give a bit of a write-up about Paine? How much have you seen of him? I ask because many predict us taking him, and given our need for another legit key forward prospect, I can definitely see it happening. What are his strengths and perhaps more importantly, his weaknesses?

Cheers. The mock looks good thus far.
