You seriously have an inferiority complex
I know. Its not like Sturt hadnt been struggling off and on field yet they managed to rub out a couple of top 10s. And anytime he wants to compare the number high schools in North Adelaides zone compared to Ports, again North managed to fluke some talent.
The Port Magpies were are poorly ran club which neglected the Jrs in their zone.
Terrible dis-service was done to SA football and the kids that were unfortunate to grow up in their zone.

Outside of South Australia, it is hard for footy people to accept that a state body and opposition clubs would want a club like Port to be killed off. Be that as it may, this is the attitude within SA, except for the Port faithful, that Port has had to operate in.
Must be a magpies thing. Collingwood went to the brink in the 90's and the AFL didn't lift a finger to help.

As superior clubs, Port & Collingwood, opposition fans are confused about us. They even seem to think we have inferiority complexes, where in actual fact we know we are superior,

Threw a like here purely because I know it will make some heads explode :D

Dosnt this guy being overlooked just prove that the phantom drafts are a joke and there are a lot of so called experts that really have no idea
No. What it means is you have to approach the phantom drafts knowing they have limitations. That the AFL recruiters have far more information, both on what their perceived needs are, and about the potential draftees. They will have the results of the combine, interviews with the draftee and people associated with them, and far more viewing hours than any of the amateurs on big footy.

You should approach the (knowledgeable) phantoms as a way of learning a bit more about the players and getting one amateur's opinion on them. But taking them as gospel is not a good move.

And of course, also recognise that sometimes the clubs also get it wrong.

Oh no please accept port are so similar to Collingwood, by the way when will you be rolling out the tarps or whinging about the fact your main rival gets so much more media coverage than yourselves, and you must wait for big brother to do things in your state to get anything done. Hahahajahaha pretty sure Collingwood are more similar to the crows in your state than the Power in ours. Aren't you guys the most followed in your state?

Hardly, many phantom drafters rated Oleg Markov highly only for him to be overlooked in 2015 before being picked up the following year by your mob. I'd say that looks to be a very good pick so far. It works both ways.

Head explosion complete.

The really good phantom drafters are usually on the money, but that doesn't mean they'll get it 100%

Also, Scharenberg disappeared from most of the phantom drafts top 20 odd towards the end.
I think once word got out clubs were going cold on his attitude, he was no longer rated a top 30 prospect.
The real surprise was how far Battle slipped in the end.

In a way it does. The So-Called Expert have some idea but not as much as they think they do

Steady on! You get more wrapt up in that side of things than any poster on this site.

The key point is the amatuers can only judge on talent and don't get access to these kids to understand their personalities which can often prove the difference between a guy making it or not.

Drafting is an extremely inexact science on both sides of the coin and for every player drafted that makes it beyond 30 (where Jonty was expected to go approaching the draft) there will be 1-2 that don't. Take the views of the amatuers as they are simply an avenue to learn and note things about potential draftees.

As an example we took Daicos when we did simply because of his genes so for mine he's as much chance to make it as Scharenberg until he proves otherwise.

I was thought they meant people in the Media NOT the Posters on here/Amateurs who do Phantom of Draft.

Of Course they would be just going on what they Hear and See

If the Sanfl and wafl u18s were removed, instead forming tac cup like competitions the AFL would 100% help fund this.

That wouldnt have a choice all those SANFL and WAFL clubs that use volunteers to operate their teams wouldnt need to.

How do you think teh AFL would handle the private schools allowing their kids to play 3 or 4 games a year for such a comp, when the majority of kids are drafted from these schools?

The AFL copes with the private schools situation in Victoria rather well, why think they would not do the same here?

IMO the SANFL should concern itself with only the league & reserves competitions, leaving the junior development competitions to the AFL because it has a track record of doing it successfully.

How the SANFL handles the Port & crows teams in the SANFL is a question for a different thread, because it is obvious that neither the AFL teams nor the SANFL is happy with the current state of affairs.

Then you dont know how it works in SA, they arent allowed to play for an SANFL club unless in the league team and at 16 or 17 thats a big ask

These schools want to win the comp as it helps with enrolments and when you are charging up to $30K a student each year that is big bucks there enrolemnts run into millions each year

Heres a little article the power they have and do weild, but if you want to go there you liove by the rules or go elsewhere

They couldnt give a toss about the AFL or SANFL infact I have heard one principal be scathing of them as it doesnt help his business model

The schools have never been part of the solution

No, but the schools have full right to say their kids cant play in any comp it if it inteferes with school sport which is exactly what they do and with the majority of kids being drfated coming from private schools, how do you think the comp will prosper or be strong from that. They may not do that in Vic but in SA its a steadfast rule at the top schools

They can run as many compas as they like but when the majority of the kids being drafted are playing in a private school comp it sort of defeats the purpose

It came up before must have used up my credits it talks about the issue with private schools in SA not allowing kids to play in comps which inteferes with school comps, but I am already aware of it in footy circles as there is a real push to win the private school comp, with a number of schools offering footy scholarships and when the fees to these schools are around $30K what parent wouldnt take advantage of it
