Only bright side out of this deal for the Swans is just further re-enforcing the need for academies in non-traditional states.

Finlayson, M.Kennedy, Setterfield and Zac Williams were all GWS academy players who requested trades interstate. The academy system isn’t a solution to player retention issues.

Swans have picks 12 and something in the 30s.

Yeah probably a bit OTT in hindsight, but I am not sure the Crows 2nd round pick would be enough to satisfy the Swans.

The Crows from a PR point of view cannot afford to let Port Adelaide get another gun recruit, so they may need to get a 3rd party involved (Like Gold Coast)

Crows can price Port out of the market.

... but ultimately it's the players choice & likely to have more immediate success at Port given the respective lists.

Don't disagree, but top 10 picks are criminally overrated. I mentioned in the Lachie Neale thread that 40% of the first rounders from the 2013-2018 drafts have gone onto become A-graders. 40% chance at an A-grader for a current A-grader would be a loss for us in a trade.
