If it wasn't for Jordan McMahon there would be no Dustin Martin at Richmond.

Oh and a special mention to the Melbourne Football Club recruiters in particular Barry Prendergast who decided money bags Scully and Trengrove were better players.

Oh no, it's deeper than that Ladies & Gentlemen.

  • Pick 19 that we gave to the Dogs for McMahon, they used on Callan Ward, whilst we picked Alex Rance one selection prior at 18.
  • McMahon kicked the goal to give us Dusty, as we all know, whilst Melbourne took Scully & Trengove before him.
  • Ward ended up at GWS with Scully whilst Trengove is injured and essentially useless.
  • Melbourne then used their compo pick for Scully on Jimmy Toumpas who has also left the club for pick 27, which was since used on Liam Hulett (who?)
  • That was two picks BEFORE the Dogs used their Ward compo pick on Jack McCrae (gun).

So essentially it was a four way trade between GWS, Richmond, Melbourne & The Dogs of which each team ended up with:

Richmond: Dustin Martin.
GWS: Tom Scully & Callan Ward.
Western Bulldogs: Jack McCrae.
Melbourne: Liam Hullet.

Good work on tanking Melbourne.

Oh s**t, forgot about Jimmy Toumpas, is he even still listed anywhere?

It goes slightly deeper than that.

Footscray finished 8th in 2000 which netted them pick 10.
Footscray's 8th position was a result of their Elimination Final loss to Brisbane 110-76.
Footscray didn't trade pick 10, the pick they selected Jordan McMahon.

Brisbane beat Freo by 107 points and Hawthorn beat Footscray by 15 Points in R22.

This enabled a Brisbane-Footscray game and a Geelong-Hawthorn game (Geelong beat Sydney 124-120.)

As said above, Brisbane beat Footscray 110-76 and Hawthorn beat Geelong 92-83 (Geelong were 5th and Hawthorn, 8th) so that took Hawthorn from 8th spot to 6th spot and Geelong and Footscray 7th and 8th respectively.

So essentially, the Hawthorn team of 2000 are the one's to thank for this.

But, there's more.

Hawthorn were coached by Peter Schwab who replaced Ken Judge who went to West Coast.

Judge developed his coaching style under the watch of David Parkin who was coached by John "Kanga" Kennedy.
