Rort with us not against us
Essendon know the drill, they rorted the system with us when Daniher left as a RFA.

We offered massive $$$ on a three year contract; triggering band 1. Then extended it not long after he joined to smooth it out. It actually caused a rule change regarding FA contracts and how they can be tabled/structured from memory.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar rule change occur if what is being floated with Ridley/Draper actually eventuates.

I reckon we might get him, if he’s keen. We will rort FA and give you band 1 compo for Draper in return for Riddler and you paying the equivalent gap in Riddlers contract that we paid to get band 1 for you.
Assuming you actually offer some (good) picks as well, I'd be happy with him going. I think we need to reset culturally, and everyone from like the 2016 and earlier drafts should be encouraged to explore their options (with a few exceptions). Just load up on picks. More than happy to pay for some or all of Ridley's salary in the next four years as part of the deal.

The main issue I see is how you pay us for Ridley and get your 2025 & 2026 academy players. I'd assume someone would need to leave for draft currency.

West Coast get given a priority pick either end of first round or start of second round that they have to trade, we get it for Starcevich, can trade you our first as we'll have sufficient points coverage. Even further RORTING

I'd be happy to throw in a 2026 pick (wouldn't do a future 1st outright but future 2 is an option) noting it looks like there is a decent chance that academy bidding will be wound back in the first round from next year.

Let’s not go too far
His availability is much higher, and his average goals per game (while spending time in the ruck) for the 2022-2025 seasons is pretty much identical to Allan. You get a guy who gets the same number of goals, chops out in the ruck, and is actually available compared to Allan. And has played in Queensland before.

I think it would have been a much smarter move.

He's not the type of forward Lions need we have Gallop to develop Allen and McMorris works for our structure.
Especially when Allen is free

Staying. Didn't expect to see it. Maybe we was just told Essendon won't be entertaining a trade. They're in damage control
Nope

“After meeting with our new High Performance team, led by Mat Inness, I’ve been really impressed and confident we have the right strategy in place to overcome my recent injury challenges and get me back to my best.

“My decision was also driven by my great belief in this playing group and the exciting young talent coming through.

“I love this club, I want success for this club, and I’ll be doing everything I can to return success to Essendon for everyone.”
