Unearthed as a key defender late in 2012, Roughead consolidated the position beautifully in season 2013. Roughead consistently handled tall opposition forwards and acquitted himself with confidence. In the home and away season, he led the competition for one percenters, including spoils, while ranking 15th for contested marks. Among the defender’s major scalps were Jonathan Brown and Jarrad Waite. But perhaps Roughead’s best effort came in the final game against Melbourne, with 16 disposals at 100% efficiency and nine marks including three contested grabs.
I hadn't realised that. Great effort by Roughy.

Yep i thought he was really underrated as a back all year. Got his pants pulled down by Cloke, Tippett and Roughead but flogged some good talls like Jay Schulz and I thought he took the honours against an extremely in form Lachie Henderson later in the year. I'll put it this way. I prefer him in our backline to Brian Lake. I'm not kidding.

We should keep him there and watch him run our backline for 10 years.
