Player Watch Jordan Roughead

Jordan Roughead’s career looked in serious trouble last year. He had fallen out of favour in the two years since he played a pivotal role in the Western Bulldogs’ fairytale September in 2016. But after being traded to Collingwood in exchange for Pick 75 last October, Roughead could be one of the biggest steals of last year’s trade period. The Magpies were already without Matt Scharenberg for at least the first half of 2019 when Roughead turned up at the Holden Centre, and when Lynden Dunn went down again, the decision to bring him to the club looked very clever. And what a difference having a clearly defined role makes — couldn’t the Bulldogs use a key defender right now.

Nice.

And if needed a spot in the rack just for a few minutes or so.

Should he play 2nd ruck this week, given Cox's absence.

I would rather Roughead than an undersized Reid.
Not sure how that's possible in centre bounces when they need to have defenders in the inside 50, but at stoppages, for sure. I'd trust Rough more than Reid. Least he has been doing it for longer.

But then Reiwoldt also did rucking duties in round 2, I think it was and he isn't a ruckman.

A bit medieval there Saintly. Been watching a bit of GoT have we?

Good paragraph apart from the last part, don’t need to rub the dogs nose in it they were very good to us trading him for a useless late pick so it didn’t impact Fasolo’s compensation

Sure is. Very much under the radar, but makes an impact on and off the field with his leadership. In community events such as this as well.

We got a good egg with this one.
Doing the Lynden Dunn role in more ways than one.

Wonderful person to bring into our club.

Credit to him and his family.

A dogs friend of mine said he was the best bloke at their club. We're starting to see that.

Not everyone can be a speedster at 200cm tall. He does well.

Agree. Got burned on a lead by McGovern but he was actually trying to cover for Howe (McGovern's actual opponent) who got turned inside out. Roughy will never match the super quick types on a lead but that's not why he's being included in the defensive group. Saints a side that might test whether we retain the current structure given they're running out of KPP types and they're playing Bruce and Membrey as their KPF's. Selection this week will be very interesting.

playing on Josh Bruce without Darcy Moore as support.

Has a chance to really prove himself.

Doesn't need to prove himself, he's an experienced and very capable defender.

People need to move on, just because he's cost us nothing is far from meaning that he isn't worth much. A genuine KPB with plenty of experience on the field and one of the most decent blokes you could wish to come across.

Plus he allows Moore to be more Attacking

Big shout out to Roughead.
He’s been such a good get.
Well done Jordan.
