Does this kid remind you of luke brennen. Look ive never seen this kid play but after reading about him, he seems to be very similer to luke Brennen.

look talish half back, athletic, fair kick, can take a screamer but not really a player you can build the team around.

But nothing overly special about his game, can fade away from games. May be taken a bit high Carlton May have missed out on a few specials(Meyer, bate, monfries,Wood, just like Hawthorn which it seems missed out on a few more needed players (jaycock, schammer, Winderlech,)

Well i dont think this a good selection from Carlton drafting a athlete rather than a true footballer Someone like Matthew Bate or Angus Monfries would have been much more beneficial for the Club in the future.

Anyone agree with this?

initially id agree with you ...

BUT ... he played low grade footy last year and then this year took the massive step up to playSANFL seniors and provided wests with run and drive off half back and can play also on the wing ... this shows he has enormous adaptability and can progress to higher levels ... im not sure if brennan played seniors when he was 18???? russel is lighly built atm (78 kg) but with some weights into him he should be able to bulk up and hopefully play either on the wing or midfield ... the reason he played across half back was cos of his size, he admitted he has a skinny frame atm which is why they couldnt play him more in the midfield. but he is a super creative player from reports too!!

im not sure about brennan?? is he a true midfielder? or was he a half back? cos russel is more a future on baller, similar to walker from all reports but his skinny frame meant he was unable to play for wests in the middle!

russel will certainly add a new dimension to our side ... we are biulding a team of athletic footballers around 188-192 cm ... norman, waite, fisher, simpson, walker, russel, prenda, bannister, wiggons etc

ps: read some match reports for wests games ... they seem to praise him quite highly, especially for his kicking goals off the wing!!!! :D

i doubt russell and walker are future onballers. russell is a HBF/ winger.

and yes on reflection he does sound similar in style to Brennan although i havent either
play much.

FIGJAM, you seem to be an expert.
Are you going by Wisebys profiles again?
Last year you thought you had Jonathon Brown in your hands in Morrison.
Pray tell what he did this year? :D

You hit the jackpot once in 10 years of rebuilding from early picks and you think your expert recruiters?
Nice one.

But I'm sure everyones an expert on bigfooty arent they :D

What similarities does he have to Brennan? Did you see him play in the SANFL? How did he go against men?

Dipstick

What are You Drunk ?
what makes you the expert obvisiouly he has played in the SANFL but doesnt every Top young South Australian Player

what are expecting from A tallish Half Back Flank with supposedly nothing too amazing with his game you will be lucky to get decent Half Back Flanker who goes on to have long playing Career at best. I'm not saying this kid will be a dud, but when ur in the Position of Carlton are (a few players of from being a top 8 side), you might want to get Players with special talents which you most likley have missed out on. Well just my opinion

Has anyone considered the possibility that Russell offers explosive pace off the mark, 1/100th of a second faster than Judd over 20 metres. That is the key distance in football, the ability to close, the ability to get through traffic, the ability to run lines. Not saying he will be a Judd but he is skilled on both sides of the body and is genuinely quick, something the Blues have been lacking.

i am a carlton supporter and yes i am a tad worried about this draftee in jordan russell....russell posesses as the qualities to go on and be a quality footballer (beautiful kick on both sides, endurance and speed fantastic)...also because of this kids talents Pagan will be a able to develop him into a footballer...no other coach in the AFL can develop a youngster like MR PAGAN..he is a specialist in this field...so carlton supporters have faith..

as for EGAN he will turn out to be collingwood trash!!!

MY GOD UR ANOTHER IGNORANT PERSON WHO BELIEVES WHAT HE READS ARENT U!!!!

FOR THE LAST TIME JORDAN ISN"T JUST A FLANKER!!!! HE ONLY PLAYED THERE COS HE WAS TOO SKINNY TO PLAY MIDFIELD!!!! CONSIDERING HE CAME OUT OF NO WHERE THIS YEAR AND IMPROVED OUT OF SIGHT PLAYING SOME VERY GOOD GAMES FOR WESTIES SNR'S (READ THE MATCH REPORTS!) ... EVEN THEY SAY HE'S A YOUNG DEVELOPING MIDFIELDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FROM carltonfc.com.au:

Jordan Russell – West Adelaide
188cm, 78kg, Turned 18 on November 6th

A feature is his lightning speed and endurance, Jordan is a midfielder with excellent foot and hand skills on both sides of the body. He makes good decisions under pressure and can be clever in his use of the ball. An excellent reader of the play he is also a strong overhead mark. Extremely agile, he had outstanding results at the AFL draft camp in October.

Jordan started the season in West Adelaide reserves and had an excellent series for South Australia in the National Under 18 Championships playing half back and was also part of the midfield rotation. He finished the season with nine senior matches for West Adelaide including a final under the guidance of coach Sean Rehn.

Born in Port Augusta he moved to Adelaide and completed Year 12 at Wilcroft College during 2004. He will be coming to Melbourne on Monday to join Carlton and is keen to commence a Bachelor of Commerce in Advertising or Marketing in 2005.

BUT YEAH I SUPPOSE YOUR RIGHT ... HE'S JUST ANOTHER DUDD BACK FLANKER LIKE BRENAN!!!!

Luke Brennan was a FF/FB in junior footy. It was a big suprise when he was taken so early because he relied almost exclusively on his contested marking and he is not really a key position height. He didn't play wings or flanks and didn't impress as overly athletic. Looked like the classic state league full forward at about 186cm (although the Hawks claim he has grown). Hawks are trying to convert him into a HBF.

Russell is a winger / flanker with pace, so a very different type of player.

I think i'd take Koutoufidies, Lappin, Fevola, Stevens and Thorton

over Buckley, Burns, Tarrant, Rocca and Fraser

anyday thank you very much. (i guess you could argue Johnson and Clement are top five, but we could with Teague and Houlihan also)

Not to mention our next tier down of talented youngsters in Houlihan, Teague , Waite, Fisher, Walker, Norman, Sporn, Davies, Scotland etc etc

Bring on season 2005!!!

FWIW, I'd have been happy getting someone like Russell at Pick 10!

If you have never seen him play, how do you really know what he plays like or you who you can liken him to.

I have got this novel idea, how about actually watching him play before you put a label on him.
