Jordy

After the Dogs got thumped by Hawthorn in round 21 last year, my young son said he couldn't understand why McMahon and Sam Power were getting a game.
"When you think of soft Doggies, you think of McMahon and Power", was his fairly angry comment. Power's going so-so at North...
The Dogs picked Callan Ward with #19, and the kid has big wraps on him (see article on Dogs website re Williamstown).
No disrespect to Jordy, he's a terrific bloke, but I know who we'd rather have at Whitten Oval...

When we traded for this bloke my gut feeling was this was a mistake.
i have a good mate who is a very fair minded Bulldogs supporter and his comment - damp squib.

I looked up his numbers and he'd racked up 2 top 10 B&F finishes at the Bullies.

So it was not compelling either way.

After 2 rounds he has had 8 qtrs of footy - 2 good qtrs and 6 pathetic. His game on Sunday was nothing short of disgraceful.

He needs to improve very quickly or this is one trade that will see Miller and Wallace wiping yolk from their eye.

I can forgive getting draft picks wrong - it is a hit and miss thing despite the science involved these days.
Trading for 24 year olds - especially when you are giving up top 20 picks - is only done because you KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING.

I don't like this.

Everything you say is spot on:thumbsu:

McMahon rates alongside Kingsley, Houlihan, That CHF/FF type player who came from Bris (Edwards i think?), Blumfield, Patrick Bowden and all the other pathetic recruits by Greg Miller and co.

Common misconception that we traded badly for a lot of these guys.

- Kinglsey was a very late draft pick (70-odd) and was only insurance if Richo went down.
- Houlihan was a draft pick in the 60s in 2001, well before Miller's time.
- Shane Morrison is the guy you're thinking of - taken 60-odd in the 03 draft
- Blumfield was traded for pick 28 in what was a pretty well regarded move at the time. Injuries quickly turned it sour. Ironically the traded pick was used on Tristan Cartledge who now finds himself on our rookie list. So theoretically nothing lost there.
- Patty B was traded for a nothing pick as well, maybe 46, had a brillaint 1st year and barring a serious hip injury would probably still be on the list.

The trades for people like Biddiscombe were also pre-Miller, although they were often disastrous.
The succesful trades under Miller have been more numerous:
Brown for pick 6
KJ for pick 6 (which ended up being pick 3 or 4 (Wells)after the Blues were caught cheating and lost their picks (also worth noting how well regarded this trade was and how much supporters were crying out for a midfielder)
Simmo for Fiora :thumbsu:
Polak for a downgraded first round pick (5 spots)

And then two we'll have to wait and see on:
Morton for a 3rd round pick
Jordy for a 2nd rounder

Trading record under Miller is actually very good. Drafting might be anotherr story.

My problem with McMahon is that he doesn't seem to be as skilled as everyone says - his disposal is average (I mean average, not bad). It looks great as he swings onto the left foot etc, but so does Tivendale and most left-footers.

He has great-looking skills.

Look, he's not bad, I understand the need for a bit of experience, but I'm not sure this was the right move. I know attacks start from the half-back line these days, but most teams do not have a McLeod, and they seem to get by OK without a 'specialist' half-back rebounder. I would have preferred to see a more goal-oriented midfielder recruited (yes, I know none were available).

:)Jury is out...until say, mid-season

Would say more than most, Jordy's season has mirrored our own, albeit only TWO games old. That's right, TWO games old.

He was slow off the blocks against Carlton, but was pretty darn impressive from mid-second quarter on and easily one of our best abnd one of the players crucial to our fightback against the Blues.

Against the Kangas, he was all at sea....as three quarters of our team looked.

As for a prediction, I'm with those who say Jordy will be at his best when the Tigers are their best and will struggle when we do!

But give him a chance to prove us wrong!

........pathetic and I expected more from Wallace

That is Jordan to a tee, when the team is firing he is very good, can cut up the opposition with his run. However well, you know his downside.

I saw him get outbodied by Leon Davis today, the only guy on the ground smaller than him. He has to be sacked.

Argubably best player today. Very early for people to be judging. Ball use was excellent off half back. One of the few players who can hit a target

If you base your best on possessions he probably was thereabouts, but he got slaughtered by his direct opponent time after time again today, terrible.:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Name one player today that didn't get turned inside out by their opponent...

He was terrific today. Contested well, ran hard and often and generally used the ball pretty well, especially when compared to some of his team mates.

I thought he was meant to be quick! Thomas who i think is elusive not quick ran away from him whilst bouncing the ball

I thought the Dogs hit the jackpot when they got pick 19 for McMahon. I don't mean any disrespect when i say this, but he is always going to struggle in a side like Richmond's, as he will have to find the footy himself, rather than have it given to him.

The hyperbole about his alleged kicking skills if laughable. During trade week Greg Miller was talking up McMahon's foot skills like he was the 2nd coming of Darren Jarman. He coughed it up so many times last season for the Dogs it wasn't funny. Is not a penetrating kick and has no right foot to speak of. He doesn't appear to have the tank to play in the midfield, so can only really be played at HFF or HBF.

Given where Richmond FC is currently at, would have thought it would have been better to steer clear of McMahon, and take your chances with pick 19.

Good game today by Jordy he was the only one that almost matched it with Thomas who i might add is quick and elusive.

Excellent game by Jordy :thumbsu:

When the game was there to be WON he was one of the few players putting in 100% and had the talent to actually hit teammates on the chest.

Fantastic to see the downhill skier comments were put to bed

He was fighting an uphill battle today, his only flaw was letting the elusive Thomas have a couple of freaky plays, and even then, he was less than 1 metre from him the whole way.

Jordy was our best player today, Thomas was great as well and you cant stop class, but Jordy contested well in situations and ran harder than any other richmond player, some of our younger players should look at the way he trains and gets his physical fitness up bc he runs longer at high speed than anyone on our list by a country mile. shows the difference between us and the bulldogs where he was just one of many hard runners

Thats because he fell to ground while Thomas was able to hit full speed. I thought McMahon did extremely well to get back up and almost catch him considering how he ran from the wing before this contest.

Its pretty clear this bloke, no matter how well he plays will end up not being good enough in the supporters (feral) minds.

Don't go too often onto opposition boards, however, just wanted to congratualte Jordan on another top game on Sunday.

You have to admire the way he got up and played on after such a huge hit on him in the first quarter. He then had to cope with Mitch Hahn pushing and shoving him as he tried to get his wits back.

Jordan has copped it in his time for a couple of things he did on the field as a 17 year old, as a mature player he goes hard when it is his time and Sunday was proof of that.

There is no doubt he is an outside player in general terms but he also has reasonable defensive pressure. His run and disposal were well suited to the Tigers game on the weekend.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Cheers, I thought the same.

I had the same kinda Fiora-ish vidions of McMahon but they were swiped on the weekend. His ability to take punishment time and time again but not getting frazzled by Hahn and to not have go off the ground after being collected heavily was a credit to him.
