Geez judging a kid by his hair and by a 2 min video where he was clearly just having a laugh is pretty judgmental and miserable!

Josh actually reminded me of Spud in that video. He was clearly having a laugh and laying it on thick for the cameras.
If that makes him a tosser then I'd hate to think what most of you thought of me at 18yo!
And his hair? Don't see the problem there. But who of us still has the same haircuts we had as teenagers?! I'm willing to bet not many.
He comes across as confident and he's obviously got his shit together. He's only 18 FFS.

In the video where Richo approached him he came across as a genuinely good bloke who was ecstatic to have been picked up by the Saints. He trained with us last year so I'm sure if he was such an annoying "entitled" tosser the club wouldn't have drafted him.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Battle was invited to the draft, so at least one club rated him as a potential top 10 selection. Also, I think one of the reasons he slid was because clubs didn't want to take a player who might be focusing on Year 12 next year. Project players were in low demand this draft, as the vast majority of teams want to be challenging next year. I fully expect that the economist in Ameet recognised this, and took a best available draftee. Josh might have been considered a top 20 talent, but aside from Brisbane and Gold Coast, we were the only club taking a truly long-term view. While teams like Richmond, Carlton, and Collingwood crash and burn, I think we will be looking forward to a genuine 10-year tilt. Our patience will be rewarded...

Entitled?

You're making the mistake of not understanding a different culture.

Those from Fateddiestan would view this video as, for example:

Full set of big teeth = entitled.

Car that starts without crossing wires = privileged.

Not necking goon bags = not team orientated.

Etc, etc.

Plenty to like about Josh:

September birthday, so one of the younger players in the draft.

Most goals at the Championships (11).

Averaged second most goals at TAC level (3 per game).

Ankle injury affected his sprinting and jumping at the combine.

Won the AIS 3k time trial in January.

Top ten in the 3k and the kicking test at the combine.

Has already grown another centimetre since the combine. Josh himself has said he is currently 193cm (and probably still growing).

Has vice-like hands so is very strong overhead.

He is a “natural footballer” who reads the play well and knows instinctively where to run.

He is already 90kg so has a ready-made build for a tall forward.

Without doubt he was the best available at pick 39. Great selection by the Saints!

I bet you he parks his car in a "garage" as well.

Saw him in the champs a bit and just sat down and started watching the All Stars game that I taped a couple of months ago, now that I know who to watch for. Liked what I saw of him in the champs and definitely liked what I've seen from him so far in the All Stars game.

For one, he has laid 3 tackles in the first 12-15 mins of the game, including a crunching one on SPS, where he charged at him like a bull from about 10m away and buried him into the turf over the boundary line. In his 3rd tackle he knocked the ball out in the tackle about 30m out from goal and it resulted in his team regaining possession and getting a goal a couple of seconds later. Has also done another couple of nice things and it's pretty clear that he has really good running capacity, as he's pushing a long way up the ground (and took one mark on the wing in acres of space) and then pushing hard back into the forward 50.

I also wouldn't be at all surprised if the reports we're hearing that he's now 194cm are true, as he definitely looks around that sort of height. Definitely looks more of a "tall" than a "medium".

If he is in fact 194cm tall now and still growing, he really ought to have a good AFL career, as he has enough going for him IMO.

Can certainly see the Tom Lynch comparisons and if he's taller than Tom then that's just a bonus, that could mean he'll be more of threat inside 50 and may not have to mainly rely on roaming far and wide to take his marks out in space.

when he hits the gym and has a couple of pre-seasons under his belt, could he be a jack darling CHF type?

I just reckon he made a dick of himself. Hopefully he is more humble irl and was just playing it up for the cameras.

he just came off as a kid. remember these guys are only 17-19 and he is still in year 11!!!

do you remember what you were like in year 11? i do and would be totally embarrassed for any of my conversations with my mates to have been caught on camera like that

this. so much this. there was a mini melt on the freo board when they passed over him, but i can bet anything that they knew they couldnt take him. there is no way an interstate club is going to take a KPF in the back end of the 2nd round, then have him stay home in victoria for 12 months to finish year 12. his manager would have made this known the clubs and explained the difficulty

plus as you said there are also a number of clubs who are literally drafting for the next 12 months and there are other club who are sorted KPF wise

great post mate!!

He's also at least 193cm not 192 as people keep claiming. I was watching simply and getting excited, I had to ask why he wasn't higher rated because he looks like a the perfect modern tall forward. He clunks marks, runs all day, converts his kicks, is very committed and probably still has some growing to do. There were times I watched his marks and he looked like Fevola, just holds his space and drops away and clunks one handers. Has the big searching leads too. Not many KPFs can just stay at home any more and his running will mean he can do what Bruce does and help out all over the ground.

geeze hammill must be kicking himself with what he has to work with no as opposed to in the past.

good flankers in billings, long
good defencive fwds in wright, weller
good small fwds who can run through the midfield in gresham, sinclair, minchington
good medium fwds in membrey, battle both of which could be classified more as KPF
good KPF stocks in bruce, mccartin

and then having roo running through there as well

spoilt for choice

you mean pinching himself, either way sounds like a fetishist.
