Scape Goat Josh Caddy revisited

Big hearted - barrel chested plodder - who couldnt run out of sight in a pea soup fog

Had the uncanny ability or knack of going missing in big games

No loss whatsoever to the Cats - for the supporters who rate him - you have to ask them one simple question - would you be confident going into a GF with Caddy in your team - i wouldnt be - hes slow and could get cut to pieces

Ithink Richmond paid overs for him - but only the passage of time will prove that one way or another
I liked Caddy, but I always saw him do something that irritated me.

He huffed and puffed as he tried to burst through. It's so obvious, he was signalling his intent. You look at Selwood - he just has a singleminded intent.

You look at Danger, he just gets the ball and whoosh, he just goes. Neither need to work themselves up to actually burst through a pack. It's almost like Caddy was trying too hard to do it.

Yep, none of them have shown any permanent and convincing improvement as yet.
Actually further to this point... it cannot actually definitely be proved that development was the issue if a player starts playing better at his new club.

There are too many variables. The comparison is not done parallel, time has already passed. With time comes mental maturity and physical maturity. They get different training. They gel with different people. They feel psychologically safe. They get injuries or recover from them. They meet new people outside of football.

Sam Menegola is a perfect example. He is not better because Geelong's development is better than Hawthorn's or Freo's.

Kennedy is not better because Sydney's development is better than Hawthorns.

And so on.

He could never get a game at those others clubs as they had such a brilliant midfield.

False.

That might have been part of the reason but he as also hurt for plenty of that time. Talent sure, but it was not the only reason.

Plus a multitude of other reasons Daz.....physical readiness, mental readiness, off field issues, maturity, injury.....not everyone in this world who has the talent is ready for elite competition when they are 18-21. Others, who are ready can push you aside.

Whatever the reasons Menegola didn't make it earlier on are irrelevant now. He looks like a very good prospect to me. And if I remember correctly, there were a number of Freo posters that thought he would do well at Geelong.

Here's hoping they were spot on. I'm backing him in to play most games this year, barring injury.

One of the reasons - Menegola failed at Freo - is because Rossie trained him up as a robot - a run with player - that was his role - and he failed

He got delisted - went to Subiaco - and Jarrod Scholfield ( afl premiership player and multiple wafl flag winning coach ) said forget all that negative rubbish that Freo tried to teach him - im going to release the shackles and turn you into a ball magnet - and the proof is in the pudding - 1st year at Subi - because of injuries only played 10-12 games and finished 3rd or 4th in the Sandover medal - and racked up huge possesions
