Strange but there are big things either seen for Caddy or wished they could be accomplished in 2014.

I am in the middle ground here. I am hoping by the end of the season he can play around 50 % in the midfield and adds enough grunt that we do not miss Corey too much.

I think 2015 will be more likely his year when you see him rack up 20 + possessions a game.

Based on PreSeason running ability one would hope he plays midfield more. Add his talent and we should a chance for a seamless transition from JC .

Needs to be used a large chunk, "as you said", in the midfield, terrific endurance which wouldn't have gone unnoticed. :thumbsu: Also dangerous up forward, is good above his head and likes a goal.

We are talking of replacing an old Corey here with Caddy. No way I hope anyone is suggesting next season he can hit the heights of Corey near his prime. I think that would be an over stretch.

Can Caddy become as good as Corey in the next 3-5 years ? Maybe but he would need improve substantially to get to that level of effectiveness and do so consistently.

Corey was a two time winner of the B&F in that 2007-11 period when we came as close to being unbeatable week in and week out as any team has. Given that perspective Caddy would need fill some pretty big shoes.

If he becomes 3/4 as good as Corey at his peak Caddy will be a very good player and recruit for us for a long time.

I very much doubt that Caddy will produce what Corey did in his prime, though I don't think that replicating the 2013 version of Corey is beyond him. Very exciting prospect is young Caddy.

Edit: So yeah, basically what Turbocat said..

Corey is potentially the kind of player that you could put into the 'once in a generation' basket, but why are we ruling the possibility that Caddy could ever become something similar? What has he done wrong to this point in his career that is making everyone dismiss the chance that he will ever become more than 'A good midfielder'?

Everyone's just playing the stats game dude. Statistically in all likelihood he won't be that great and statistically our amazing run "must come to an end". I for one am in the Caddy camp and have been since day one. When you've watched football as long as the boob you get an eye for these things. ;)

To be clear, when I said that Caddy wouldn't produce the same as Corey in his prime, I was talking about 2014 only.

From what I've seen, Caddy has all the tools to be an absolute top tier midfielder in a few years - his decision making being the most obvious area in need of improvement at this stage IMO. I rate him as having the most potential to become elite of all of our young group of mids. As I said, a very exciting prospect.

Ah that's okay then. I know a lot here tend to like to remain 'realistic', but there's nothing to suggest Caddy can't be, as you say, a top-tier midfielder. He was a number 7 draft pick, after all. (and brought to the club with a Gary Ablett compensation pick!)

Caddy will be better than Corey imo, he has much better marking ability already and is a 60 metre kick of the footy which is something Corey was never renown for...his long kicking or overhead marking.

Corey was one the best gut runners I ever seen though, doubt Caddy will be able to match that part of Smithy's game, Crawford, R.Harvey, Cousins, Corey, they literally ran until their opponents tired and could start getting more of the ball in red time.

Now that is a big call.

Corey has the games and longevity on his side, you are setting a very high bar for Caddy, and I don't see it. Not sure he will even play regularly this year

Bobby said he will be better than Corey, not me. I'm just not ruling out the possibility.

He played 18 games in 2013, why on earth would you think he won't play regularly in 2014?

18 games was a good result and you might be right with the players that have left he will be in the best 22
