Give me Mitch Duncan over Josh Caddy any day of the week

Caddy's well on the way to equal effectiveness of Mitch Duncan 2014, at least I hope so for the GFC, a lot will depend on Caddy to take that step for team success next season imo.
Also the ruck Dawson Simpson and Vardy at CHF are key elements, or we will be bottom eight at best.

It'll be like 'JC' never left ;)

I get what you are inferring but you just don't replace Joel Corey - and his 1% efforts will be missed for a while to come I feel.

I do agree however that Caddy's performance thus far and his continued improvement will abate the void created by the retirement of Smithy. I reckon Caddy and Hypen are the two keys to this.

18 games was a good result and you might be right with the players that have left he will be in the best 22
Make your mind up!

I said ages ago that Duncan will be a 200 game player.
But Caddy is going to have a better career. He will be a match winner like Selwood is and Bartel was.

Caddy will be a totally different player to Smithy. You never felt like Smithy was going to kick a cheeky goal from a stoppage, but you do with Caddy. Not saying Caddy will be better, but he could be just as important to our future side, maybe more important, as Joel Corey was in 07-11 Golden Era.

Agree with this. I see Caddy being more similar to Bartel in style than Corey. Horlin-Smith is more like Corey to my mind. A clearance specialist but really just suited to playing midfield.

That is a big call indeed.

I rarely like to prognosticate about young footy players - principally because I just hate how many people call players champions. You would think every second player in the comp. was a champion. The word needs to be used reservedly IMO.

I did like however what I saw with Duncan. I thought he would be good player for us after about 20 or senior games.

I am ambivalent about Caddy thus far. Love the hardness and attack on the ball - but dislike what he does with the ball when he gets it - and he often fails to pick up a loose player when we do not have the ball. He really needs to get all the 1 % ers right. Have better vision, use the ball a bit better and do the hard stuff when we do not have the ball. I am hoping these things will slowly come over this and next season.

So far he has been ok for me - with some really good moments and some bad ones. But we need an inside hard mid like him desperately so I hold onto hope he will be the one that will make a difference next season in he midfield (and then GHS).

In 100% agreement. Not only in style but in that he is a big game player , will be at his best in those games. He will win finals for us imo

There's something about him that reminds me of Selwood also :thumbsu:

For me, I think it's his desperation around the ball. May not have the 'silky' skills yet, but he'll get there.

I also noticed toward the end of the season when his confidence had improved, he was the guy who encouraged and congratulated younger team-mates whenever they involved themselves in the play. Potential leader I think (as long as no more hooded hold up pranks ;) )

One of my favourites for sure :)

One of mine too. Have watched him with interest since moving from GC. Really liked his gradual improvement, picked up playing 'the geelong way' very nicely imo

Watching Caddy tonight....:

You cant compare anyone to a multiple premiership AA hero like Joel Corey. That said, Caddy is a jet. he will absolutely finish his career as a multiple AA midfielder. His ability to get the footy first. to break away and break tackles. To kick goals and just be as hard and big as he is. He is a gun.

Caddy's disposal is a difference.

Smithy won loads of ball over 10+ seasons - a champion. Disposal was not always reliable.

Yep.
A stat that seems to creep up with Caddy is center clearances.
He wins them.
A lot.
A guy who is a bull like Caddy, with the tenacity and dare to smash packs added to the ability to constantly get to the fall of the ball at center clearances is rare, extremely rare.
Still needs to work on his disposal but a lot of the time he is getting the ball away while having 2/3 players trying to tackle him, has the tools to be a genuine STAR of the comp.

He was very good tonight. Looks like a very good player.

I have been very cautious about Caddy since he arrived, but I am coming around to him. His follow up and hard at it approach was very impressive tonight.

Going to be an important player for us now….and in the future.

yep he is a jet. And his disposal is just fine. Dont forget that when he is getting rid of it, he's often got 2 players hanging off him. He and Duncan tonight showed genuine A grade AA potential.

Everyone's just playing the stats game dude. Statistically in all likelihood he won't be that great and statistically our amazing run "must come to an end". I for one am in the Caddy camp and have been since day one. When you've watched football as long as the boob you get an eye for these things. ;)

Hey Heretic! Does thou doubt statistics?

Statistics are everything. You do not even have to go and watch the game. Just aquire a copy of the Sunday paper and look at the statistics. They are divinely inspired and anyone who questions them is a child of the devil.
Be thou warned lest the fires of hell consume you.
Yea verily.

And yes, I have had a few quiet beers at the local (Saleyards Hotel, Geelong West).

Corey has the games and longevity on his side, you are setting a very high bar for Caddy, and I don't see it. Not sure he will even play regularly this year
