Carlton are also a very desperate football club.

It's certainly not beyond them to make rash knee jerk decisions.

If they don't make the top 8 there will be blood smeared at Visy park next season

Throats will be slit.

I'm surprised nobodies picked up on this one that's going around, but MM's contract allegedly has a clause in it at the end of the second year. Need to look like they're in a flag winning position or gawn.

Considering the likes of Genghis Khan and Atilla the Hun run that club, wouldn't be surprised that one bit if it was true.

Silly to speculate until he has nominated ONE club only. But my gut feeling is, if it is between us & Geelong we are close to certainties. But with Carlton in the picture, would not surprise me one bit if he ended up there.

Carlton are at the back the pack, behind us.

Carlton are nuts if that's the case. They need a forward. Just because they have cash kicking around from failing to attract one doesn't mean they should go all out to prove someone wants to go there.

Lucky kid if he has a number of good options to choose from. I'd be happy if he chose North, but not devastated if he doesn't.

I honestly couldn't believe it. I dont think they really need midfielders at all.

From what I have heard the contract was an extra 50K a year compared to Geelong and ours. All teams offered 4 year contracts to him. Fair bit of difference across a 4 year period

Geelong tries to sell their culture and environment. It looks like we're in the same mould, which is great.

Boak would have sacrificed a fair bit of coin to leave Port.

They're looking at drafting kids.

They don't really have much choice anyway.

The Saints are headed south. I can't see Caddy getting too excited about this.

Caddy is 20, mature body, can play inside and outside, has had 2 years of development, would fit any team rebuilding.

The question is if he wants to wake up everyday and head to Frankston, Geelong or just outside the CBD.

imo Carlton is a bigger threat. You have to ask why he had set his sights on Essendon last year. We don't know, he may suffer from Buckleyitis and want the fame and attention of a big 3.

TBH I couldn't give a rat's arse if he comes or not, I just hope if we don't get him then we drive his price so ****ing high they will get that ebay feeling once they have won the auction, that, "What the **** was I thinking!" feeling.

To be honest, as much as I'd like Caddy to come to North I don't think he will. My gut feeling on his preferences are Carlton/Geelong/North/St.K.

I hope I'm wrong and we pick him up.

It's those four clubs, but the order is the wrong way.

carlton would be more interested in tippet than caddy, seeing cloke is goneski, depends if mick wants a key forward or another midfielder

They have a number of KPP shortages, would be ironic if they got more midfielders.

St.K?? Unless there offering alot more $$ than us, i can not see him going to a club that is on the re-build versus a team that should be pushing top 4 next year.

Think of the reason why they didn't go after Goddard again.

Funny. Essendon and everyone else are playing checkers. Saints are playing chess. Adapting to free agency better than the rest of everyone, regardless of losing a good player.

Pelchen knows what his doing.

Chance to snare both Caddy and K. Stevens in the one go.

still doesn't replace Goddard. Goddard left bc he was sick of the saints. The money was not a huge diff as Robbo suggested.

It's not about Goddard. The Saints have known Goddard were going months ago.

They've had to adapt, and they have by chasing players that will be in it's midfield unit 8 - 10 years from now.

Again, chess. Not checkers.

They're ahead of everyone else. Goddard leaving does them more favors than him staying.

They didn't want him around, was pretty obvious. They would have more likely got more of a trade offer or compensation offer via GWS last year, they should have bit the bullet then.

GBS on the money. St Kilda may have just run the best psyche we've seen in years...

GBS, you are giving St Kilda waaaaaaaaaay too much credit.

Dude, they've completely mind***** their way to the front of the Caddy race. It's actually brilliant, as much as it pisses me the **** off.

Bang on.

Essendon have paid massive overs For Goddard, 4 years takes him to 31/32 and on the money he is on that is high risk v high reward stuff from the bombers.

FA is going to overvalue players and the Saints were smart enough to hold firm.

I reackon the Saints will win in this deal long term.

They get a compensation pick which will be inbtween 12 -20 giving them the ability to sign a good promising youngster who may provide 10 years of service. Goddard's absolute best seasons are behind him, he may have the odd good game, but no-where near his old level.

The immediate impact is greater, they sign that pick on 100K - 200K and they have ~400K plus any residual amounts to throw at other players like Caddy, so potentially they could gain Caddy a pick 7 and a very good player using the compensation, all for having Goddard taken off their books.

Not a bad outcome in my opinion.

I don't even know what you're talking about anymore. All they have done is lose one of their best players. Nothing else has happened. Yet apparently they are masterminding some shrewd scheme now? Whatevs.
