Assuming we'd want to lose Lachie, trade the pick and that the pick would be as high as Geelongs.

May not be in our hands to keep Lachie, if he decides he wants it hes gone. Upside is it would seal the deal with Caddy, no doubt it would be a compo to match Geelongs.

Just to throw the cat amongst the Pidgeons.

If GWS take Hansen as an uncontracted player, WE get a compo pick, then we will be well and truly in the running for Caddy!!!

Yeh, awesome. Shit, maybe we can trade Zeibell and Swallow as well. Then we'd be sure to get Caddy:thumbsu:

Not sure if this is his poker face but the longer it drags on the less comfortable I am. Other clubs may weigh in, Geelong may also buckle and use their compo. I guess the alternative is we may also buckle and offer more. Would love to get it done early and look at other trades...

St Kilda's the darkhorse imo.

I thought this may have been settled early between Geelong and North.

If this drags out the full 3 weeks, St Kilda's Goddard compo pick will have been decided, and granted by the AFL, which would put them in a fairly strong position. Something has to be decided between now and then.

Ultimately Josh has to make a decision, he always has, he may have already, it would suck for us if a high quality kid like him, nominated us privately, only for the club not to be able to facilitate a deal, and he went to a rival Melbourne club.

Not a free agent is he? If we can't make a trade he leaves for nothing in the pre-season draft. Really hope they don't trade him.

This is what I've been trying to tell you all.

Barrett reckons that Hansen wants to stay at North, so by going through this process his management may be able to get a few extra $$$ out of North if other clubs show interest.

They can still take two I think and Hansen would be best available, though not what they really need.

This is actually the optimal result, sadly.

Or we trade Hansen straight out to GC plus our second for Caddy.

Actually it wouldn't.

All FA compensation picks have to be used the year they are granted.

I think GC's angle with regards to Geelongs pick, is to trim their list size, but retain the currency of the pick, and bank it.

If Josh has nominated NM the deal should get done. How GC are holding out for a compensation pick that may land them in the draft at 12 instead of 14 is beyond me. Just get the deal done.

Geelong are kidding themselves if they think they can land Hmac for pick 40 and Caddy for a late first round. They are dreaming!

Not related to free agency.

GWS can still take two uncontracted players for free.

Lachie would not go as a free agent. He would go as one of GWS remaining options to sign an uncontracted players. They still can nab 2 or 3 on that rule. Thus GWS is the only option for us to get this compo.

Even such, I can't see Lachie demanding 700k+ as Callan Ward did (whose compensation is essentialy the same as the one Geelong is currently holding), in the initial dealings.

GWS were desperate to land anything they could prize away from clubs, and were willing to pay for it.

The landscape has changed, they have ammunition in the form of draft picks and players, and a salary cap to manage now.

There's no way he would get the contract required for band 2 compo, we'd be looking at an end of first round compensation pick for him, the same that we netted for Hale.

That was the Campbell Brown compo, not for Hale. High pick, KPP, about to hit prime, would be good coin, band 2 isnt out of reach.

I know where the compo pick came from.

Hawthorn traded it to us, for Hale.

Campbell Brown is on $400k+, theres snowflakes chance of Lachie getting the $700k+ needed for band 2.

None.

We'd essentially be letting Hansen go for pick #23.

No doubt the issue is we wont know till its done how the AFl see it. Point was IF we lose him its not all downside, it gives us more to play with that GC want. Banking compos is important to them
