Would someone mind describing the article for the people that aren't able to read it? Cheers:thumbsu:
LUKE Dahlhaus had no intention of ditching his No.40 for a more prestigious lower number until this week when he received an offer too good to refuse.
In an enormous show of faith, the Western Bulldogs handed the exciting 20-year-old the opportunity to wear the famous No.6 from next season.
Worn by the Dogs' only premiership skipper Charlie Sutton and club legend Brad Johnson, the No.6 had been laying dormant in the two years since "Johnno" retired.
"It is a huge honour given the history of it ... I couldn't really believe it was happening to be honest," Dahlhaus told the Sunday Herald Sun.
"I got approached by the club and they said it had been on ice for two years and fans were starting to ask and get edgy about who was going to get the number - they wanted it back so they asked me first.

"When the No.6 comes, up you can't really say no. I took it with both hands."
Dahlhaus has recovered from an ankle injury that cut short his season and started running this week with an eye to building his fitness for more midfield time next season.
"I'm working on my fitness pretty hard. I'd like to get off the leash a little bit ... it's good to get into the midfield and mix it up a bit," Dahlhaus said.
He is on track to play in London in November against Port Adelaide, a trip that will be an eye-opener for the boy from Leopold, near Geelong.
"The only place I've ever been is Bali. I haven't been anywhere overseas besides that, so it will go good," Dahlhaus said.
But before that is Saturday night's Bulldogs best and fairest, where he will officially presented with the No.6 by the late Sutton's son, Charles.

Malthouse grabs control of Blues early
MICK Malthouse might not officially start at Carlton until November 1, but he already has a firm hand on the tiller.
Malthouse has made a big song and dance about focusing on his current media and book tour commitments, but the Blues say he will be in control throughout the free agency and trade period starting tomorrow.
Blues chief executive Greg Swann said Malthouse had already been into the club for meetings and was in regular contact with officials including the list management committee.
Carlton likes what West Coast tall Quinten Lynch brings to the table, talent-wise, and is also a big fan of his durability.
He turns 30 in January, but has averaged a remarkable 23 games a year in the past nine seasons, with 209 games all up in the past decade.
The Blues have had huge injury problems with their forwards including Jarrad Waite (11 games this year) and Andrew Walker (68 games in the past five seasons).
The Blues have denied the high-altitude switch from Qatar to Arizona for their training camp will cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Qatar was virtually free given a generous sponsorship deal, but the Blues will try to offset the cost of Arizona by inviting corporates to come onboard.
The Blues say they will return to Qatar in coming years to work with the high-performance outfit which provides detailed testing of players.
Membership for 2013 opens at Carlton this week, which will provide a fascinating insight into whether the fans flock to the club or hold back, uncertain about what's in store.

Seven eyes Nine's Matty Lloyd
MATTHEW Lloyd has emerged as the prime target for Channel 7's football team as it seeks to replace new Carlton coach Mick Malthouse.
The former Essendon captain is expected to slot into Grant Thomas's vacant chair at Footy Classified on Channel 9 next year.
But Seven has come for him hard with a match-day role that would be perfect for his hard-hitting and analytical style. It means Lloyd is tossing up two enviable roles.
Seven also needs to replace boundary rider Brett Kirk, who is off to Fremantle as an assistant coach.
Lloyd works on Nine's Thursday and Sunday footy shows, but made his name calling it as he saw it on Channel 10 post-retirement.
The wash-up means Nine could have its prime Footy Classified recruit stolen before he even starts.
A suggestion from this column if Lloyd heads to Seven: It's time to get Wayne Carey back on the Monday night show, after he was turfed a few years back when he hit controversy again.
He has been outstanding in his media roles this year and seems to have won back significant credibility after his dramas of recent years.
SHARROD COASTING
THE jungle drums are getting louder that Sharrod Wellingham is on his way out of Collingwood and West Coast bound.
His management continues to play a straight bat, but sources close to the action believe it is all but a done deal.
We are also hearing Angus Monfries might find a four-year offer to cross to Port Adelaide too good to knock back. The Bombers have offered two years and are refusing to budge.
And don't be surprised if Gold Coast's Josh Caddy lobs at the Kangaroos.
WINDOW WIDE OPEN
IT should not be a shock if the length of the trade and free-agency period running from October 1-26 is a one-off.
The AFL will be sure to review the period in the off-season, with clubs already worried it will run to 2 1/2 months given multiple list lodgement dates.
After the October 26 cut-off there are more free-agency periods for delisted players, with the delisted-player free-agency period running until November 28. Then the rookie and pre-season drafts are on December 11.
Every player delisted immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent, so the AFL's meat market goes for nearly half the actual AFL season.
Clubs hope the trade and free-agency period can be pared back if the upcoming month shows it drags out unnecessarily.
GAGGED ON CAP
RAMPANT cheque-book journalism has hit sport in recent years, so it is surprising no one has been able to get former Melbourne Storm boss Brian Waldron to open up on the salary cap drama.
The Storm are into today's NRL grand final, and yet neither Waldron nor Melbourne Storm chief financial officer Cameron Vale have said anything significant about one of the greatest scandals in Australian sporting history.
Vale is now the highly regarded acting North Melbourne chief executive and has denied he either acted improperly or being the whistleblower who lifted the lid on the salary cap deception.
Vale's only comment was a statement released in 2010 after the club was stripped of its titles.
"During my time at the Melbourne Storm, I never engaged in any fraudulent behaviour," he said then. "I have absolutely nothing to hide. I strongly object to being branded a whistleblower as the only contact I have had with the NRL has been at its instigation."

You could bet your life on Mark Stevens getting the Bulldogs stuff correct. As for Ralphy's contribution....50/50 at best.

Thanks for posting though, GR. Makes for an interesting Sunday morning read.

So for those in the know, would the 'Shack' be better than anyone else we'd get with pick 14? It's a given he'll be more advanced.

Don't quote me but I remember reading that the top 15 this year are very good, after that there is talent still there but you need good eyes and good development which some clubs are good at doing, others not so much.

We do not know if we have 14, that is the problem. There is still GWS chance of signing out of contract players, but it is unlikely someone would get a mid first round pick.

Bomber Thompson at a breakfast this morning said Goddard to Essendon was as good as done.

Don't shoot the messenger...

Media outlets now reporting this to be the case.

I don't understand the infatuation with paying a 28yo that is two years on from his zenith, $3M over 4 years.

With Lynch and Goddard done, it could be an hectic trade period.

From the outset I preferred Caddy to a Goddard or even Boak. It would be a win on so many levels if we can land him. Make it happen Cam!

So the big question is, will Caddy get 28 from Sierakowski? Looks like he's played with that number throughout

Can only assume it's down to a bidding war between North and the Cats for $$$

From reading all the reports and adding a few assumptions this is the likely series of events
  • Caddy wants to go home
  • speaks with 4-5 clubs (north, saints(?), blues, cats, pies)
  • chooses Collingwood
  • Collingwood can't afford/doesn't want him after getting Cloke
  • narrows it down to North and Geelong
If it was all up to the better bid (i.e bid to gold coast, picks etc) then this story would have already been ended, but if anything North have firmed since the logical point of Caddy being rejected by Collingwood.
In Norths Favour
  • Gaining momentum
  • more cap space + H trade to Geelong could tip the scales even more effectively giving North 1 million extra more then Geelong.... If Josh Caddy says something to the tune of Geelong has offered me X dollars, beat it and I'm yours, I am 100% confidence we will (If the clubs values him). Geelong have the delicate culture with there top players sacrificing pay for the team (on SEN Mooney reported the other week there top paid player was only on 600k) and we give out big contracts willy nilly to whoever can run down Farren Ray:p. We are the favourites if it comes down to a bidding war
In Geelongs Favour
  • Effectively have the tie-breaker (the compo pick)
  • The Favourites according to "I Reckons" and "BF Sauces"
  • Have enough Cap Space for Caddy, if it's a situation of give me X and I'll be a cat then he'll be in Geelong.
But all assumptions aside, it is safe to say it has come down to the old cliche of "whoever wants it more". If we think he is worth more we get him, if not Geelong get him.

My brother in-law played for Geelong a few years back. Lived in Melbourne, and despised the regular commute to Geelong for training etc.

Where do the immediate family of Caddy live? could be another deal breaker to get him to North!:thumbsu:

Got some news from someone who spoke to him over the weekend.

He is still unsure but leaning towards Geelong at this stage.

I doubt he will nominate only 1 club. Guy Mckenna has stated that he hopes Caddy nominates a couple of clubs so it makes it easier to do a deal unlike last year.

If he nominates two clubs, Geelong and us, GC will deal with Geelong for the compo pick.

If he is to come to us he needs to nominate us and us alone.
