That's the thing, until Cloke and Goddard sign deals can only be discussed on the basis they believe they are re signing or leaving, which will cause a massive reshuffle of other teams deals. Your posts highlights all if, buts, and on the condition of, that most of these rumors floating around carry.

I suspect we've tested the market with a few players, but will not commit to anything if we can get a better deal elsewhere.
 
I think Cloke and Goddard are just using FA to pad their salaries, have real doubts either will move.

GC are in no position to force a trade, what can they do? Say no to a trade? If someone is adamant about only going to one club then you do not have to make the best offer, just something reasonable. I doubt GC is going to risk not getting anything for the sake of a few extra places on a mid table pick.

Elephant is in off season mode after too many peanuts on Mad Monday.

Will be back for pre season training come November.

Why not? Is it less of a risk for them as it is to Caddy, whom by leaving for nothing, will have to go into the pre-season draft and risk getting picked by GWS or Melbourne.
 
Caddy is a good player.

I think however he had a good year this year because better players like Dave Swallow were injured.
Given free reign in a shoddy midfield, you gain confidence and are not afraid to make mistakes.
IMHO he is a good player, but no better than a JZ.
His kicking can be suspect and I would rather us look for a quick type mid.

If he comes to North he will be an addition to our midfield that can provide a chop out for the captain, JZ and Adams...but we have three of these players.

This is, more or less, how I'm seeing it. Caddy helps the likes of Swallow and JZ play outside a bit more.

caddy finished 17th in his clubs B + F,played 22 games,hardly a good year i would have thought

I hear it didn't go well. Was very concerned that Aegis Park does not have a coffee shop and was heard mumbling something about the lack of towels. Knew these things would comeback to bite us.

Yeah, I heard that Caddy and his manager were impressed enough to sign the deal there and then over a coffee. When Cam came back with the Nescafe, things went down hill quickly.:(
