Well, other than losing a pretty good pick in a 'super draft' (which i've been resigned to since we came into the Caddy race), we're also losing a guy that the North boys would love to play with. Yes, Greenwood has been a bit underwhelming since his breakout game in 2010, but you don't find bulls that flare up at the sight of a pack or a loose ball regularly. Just think that the Gold Coast could use him a lot more effectively than what we have and it could come back to bite us.

but will be stoked to see Caddy in blue and white (vertical, not horizontal) in 2013!

There is no superdraft.

I covered and followed the TAC Cup competition, and the various state leagues from start to finish. This is a myth.

Then why such coverage of it? Are the first few Hodge/Judd/Ball-like?

Because the top 5-8 are brilliant. After that, it gets quite stale fast.

We have pick 14.

We'll get a decent player, but no superstar by any stretch of the imagination.

I love these expert opinions, it is how we got Atley at #17 and Harper with #27 because everyone said that draft was shit too and we were the only one who was dumb enough to active a compensation pick.

Say Caddy comes to us and we lose pick 14 and Greenwood, and that's the only addition to the squad (forget the drafts etc.), where does he fit in with the best 22 come Round 1 next year?

FB: Firrito, Grima, McMahon
HB: Atley, Hansen, Thompson
C: Bastinac, Cunnington, Wells
HF: Adams, Tarrant, Wright
FF: Thomas, Petrie, Harper
R: Goldstein, Swallow, Ziebell
I/C: Mullett, Caddy, MacMillan
S: Campbell
EMG: Anthony, L Delaney, Gibson

How does this sound? No Boomer obviously.

This is how I would go:

C: Atley Ziebell Wells
R: Goldstein Swallow Caddy
I: Bastinac Cunnington Harper

It would allow us a lot of flexibility with inside/outside rotations. If McKenzie puts on some muscle over the pre-season who could take Atley's role down back, for his speed and improved kicking ability he is under-utilised down back now that most clubs drag him deep and go to great effort to restrict his ability to run off half-back.

I've been told the top 12 are very strong and then it drops off quickly. Good chance we'd get a slider but I'm not fussed either way.

I'd like to think 14 is fair for Caddy. Sure he was a pick 7 but the guy bailed on his club. That shows mental weakness and that knocks his value as a player down significantly IMO.

Whatever way you look at it, our midfield is getting beastly.

Rumour on Facebook is we're offering Pick 14 + Greenwood for Caddy on a three year deal worth 900k.

If that was to eventuate, i'd be a little peeved.

The highlighted part is the 'important' bit.

I think it will become harder for Greenwood and Garlett to get games if Caddy comes aboard, if they wanted to maximise their opportunities I wouldn't blame either if they wanted to look elsewhere.

However, with injuries and our side in particular with lengthy suspensions, there is probably going to be opportunity to get in there.

Because it was a shit draft, and we lucked out. Look at everyone around Harper and Atley, say from pick 12 to pick 42, a whole lot of average.

A draft can be shit and there can still be quality finds. There's just less chance of finding it, and you need to luck out at times.

Only the Dogs, Cats, Us and the WCE seemed to find good picks. The rest are meh.

If anything, the quality in that draft came from the rookie pick upgrades from deep drafts of previous years.

BUT, my overall point is this:

We give up pick 14, for someone who was rated highly and is two years already into his development.

Should we go for Caddy? Yes.

Will we get him? I still dunno.

But it's worth it.

Not a superdraft does not mean a shit draft.

From 12->42
First Round: Cook(Melb), Tape(GC), Smith(Crows), Smedts(Cats), Jacobs(Port), Atley(us), Watson(Blues), Smith(Hawks), Pitt(Freo), Lamb(Swans), Wallis(Dogs), Guthrie(Cats), Cripps(Saints), Karnezies(Lions)

Second Round: Darling(Eagles), Harper(us), Lester(Lions), Lycett(Eagles), Batchelor(Rich), Steinberg(Dons), Green(Bris), Howe(Melb), McCarthy(Blues), Newton(Port), Young(Port), Horlin-Smith(Cats), Hallahan(Hawks), Taylor(GC). Parker(Swans)

And there were a lot of good prospects in the 3rd round as well. Most of the players who are unknown are from clubs like Melbourne, Port and Blues where you are not sure if it is dodgy recruitment or lack of development or whatever.

You could have thrown darts blindfolded at that list of players and be very confident you would get some very good prospects.

That is where people understimate and undersell the value of the draft and treat second round picks like turds trading them for complete spuds, if you had a few shots in that shit draft in the second round you would have some great prospects.

If the trade is indeed Greenwood and 14 I would be hoping they'd throw in their third round pick which is probably useless to them but may help us in another trade. I think Levi has a lot to offer at AFL level.

He would be massive for GC with the absence of Harris. Levi might spray it a bit but he will give you 100% effort and a physical contest. He is like a number of our players that if they learnt not to expose the weaker parts of their games their worth would magnify tenfold, if you can't hit the side of a barn with a 50m kick, don't kick 50m.

Stanley Warnock Harbrow
Horsley Bock McKenzie
Russell Swallow Bennell
Prestia Day Brennan
Brown Lynch Dixon
Smith Ablett Rischitelli
Hall Hunt O'Meara Shaw

If I'm GC there's no way I'm dropping any of them for Greenwood.

Except for Horsley, Russell, Brennan, Brown, Hall, Shaw? Richsitelli was garbage this year.

Rischa was injured. Horsley is a better version of Levi. Brown is better than Levi and plays an important role up forward. Russell, Brennan, Hall and Shaw are their outside players.

Injuries and young bodies.

O'Meara for a start isn't going to play 22 games.

Facebook rumour is surely garbage, but this mob were disgraceful most of the years Giants beat them by 30!! If you dont think Levi plays 22 for them then you musnt think he's worth much pf anything. personally I rate him highly at his best.

GC were ruined by injury last year. They'll surprise a few people next year.

Don't get me wrong, Greenwood would get plenty of games. I just think they'd be wasting their time picking him up. They have big guys that can do what he does, just better.

I think he'd be great for us at his best so I think hed be great for them. Simillar aged mids etc.

Levi's best season was 2010 (still only 17 games) and to be honest it wasn't even that good. I'm not all that optimistic about him.

If Levi played for another team you would be rating him something fierce.

He really isn't that good. He'd probably be quite valuable to a side like GC in the short term, although they need to cut their list.
