I was thrilled when we picked Caddy up as I think he'll be a star, and that goal last night elevated him immediately to one of my favourites. What a moment that was.

Rapt with the goal. Said to the missus, you can see how much he wants to kick this, wants to prove himself. Very impressed with his diligent and earnest response to learning the Geelong way this year. Needs to stay hard at it and the rest will come.

Scotty looked quite demonstrative with him after the game. Almost as if he was having a go at him? Perhaps a 'this is the level, this is what it takes, never give less than that' speech?

Just on the bolded I think that comes naturally to Cads, he seems to love the hard stuff and never flinches around a contest so I think that is his natural role, getting it in tight and hard and bodies hitting. A bit like Selwood, Kelly and Bundy, loves to get down and dirty in tight.

On last night I have no doubt he is working super hard to become a Geelong Player and massive credit to him for that, we heard all pre-season how hard he was working and we can all see it the last few weeks.
I think he is a really easily coached player, he was dropped to the seconds to work on a few things and I reckon he went there and just said "ok cool, I'll work on those things, get them right and become a better player" instead of sooking about it (moreso due to how he came to the Cats, the whole drafting of him, using a first round pick, how basically the club had to audition for him and not the other way around, he could have come here with an ego, VERY happy to see thats not a fact).

A clutch goal like last night isn't out of the ordinary for Cads either, I remember he kicked a very important goal late in another game, possibly North?
You guys all know I've been a fan (although I didn't over hype him thinking he'd come in and be a 30 touches, 10 clearances, 25 contested poss. kinda player) but I really really liked what I saw last night...

On the second paragraph, I saw that at the game and he seemed to be saying something to a few of the young kids, looked like Guthrie and a few others aswell as Caddy. I'm not sure what he was saying but it doesn't mean it was negative, he could have been giving a "this is what its all about, dont let up" kind of thing or maybe something else.

While I was watching his best performance ever in the Blessed Hoops last night, it occurred to me that this game, in that raging cauldron, against that superb and highly motivated opposition chasing their own sense of redemption, was the game when Josh Caddy ceased to be an ex Sun and became a Geelong Cat.

He played our brand of football, in our preferred environment, our way. All due kudos to him.

Cadz belongs.

Ive been saying for a long time. He is a Bartel type player. He is a moment man. He will be quiet at times and he is still learning. He also be indoctrinated i being "geelong" and Geelong are still learning to trust him. We the supporters are too. Right now he has played a bit of VFL ,he has been made to work for it but I'm sure he knows he has made a smart choice in going to a club where you earn your spot , where history drips of the rafters and the clubs tradition is real , not just been created in lab

Ive been on the Josh Caddy train since the u18's , cant really be bothered finding old posts and I have not changed my mind. Wanted us to draft him but knew he would be gone before our pick Why? Then we got him an Ablett pick. Great Some had reservations. I know but I was all for it. Why? Probably multiple things but one key thing is he is a moment man , as well.

When the heat is applied in big games players like him are prepared to standup up.
Some think "DONT kick it to me" , others say "Im open Give it to me"
Some think "We are in trouble I hope someone does something but I better not try to do it , I don't want to make an error" , others say "I MUST do something , the side needs it"

I've heard it described as as paralysis by analysis , some players very good players will cramp up. Others will miss and still want the ball , "hey I missed last time , I'l will get this one" SJ also is a great example of this. Think of Jimmy in the big games. Its his greatest asset that he will take the mark, win the ball , kick the goal when we need it.

Will Caddy be as good Jimmy , I dont dare hope that but he is that sort. We must be patient , we must temper our enthusiasm and criticism mistakes will be made but to try to kick that goal from where he was after so many misses all night. shows "it". Caddy is the guy you want the ball in the hands of ,

The #3 wood is this Caddy's bag is there for general play but if he was on the 18th and its all tied up he is the type to pull the Driver. And he will be a driver in the next generation of success for the Cats

Well done Josh.

Yes that's exactly what I thought too. I liked also that it hasn't come too easy for him as well. Should hold him in good stead

Yep, I looked at that and wondered what was going on. It almost looked like he was getting something of a rebuke.

I would like to know what was said. Caddy did not look flabbergasted or disappointed by it.

It really looked to me like he was explaining something rather than ripping him up, and that Caddy was listening and taking it all in.

Apart from his general play, his F50 tackles and smothers have been very impressive in the last 2 games.

I said after last week my main criticism of him so far is his unforced errors with the ball in hand. There was none of that last night. Made good decisions, and used it well.

I'd like to think Scott told him to take it all in - that this what its all about - to play a role in big games and that now he is part of it

How difficult it must be for the MC to bring in this youth at just the right rate - not overdoing it, but still providing plenty of chances.
And what a fantastic testament the team's results are proving.
Full credit to everyone involved!
The victory over Hawthorn was a coaching and player execution triumph.

We've been given a tantalising glimpse into the potential of the young players. Hopefully we'll be forgiving of the lapses they'll undoubtedly suffer over the rest of the season.

Re your 3rd paragraph, that was the goal I referred to in my OP, v North. Didn't hide, wanted that ball in his hands. Was sitting near the race last night where that goal was kicked, never had any doubt he'd slot it ( well just a little :p )

Perhaps it's pedantic to point this out, but there was actually one passage of play - from memory, I believe it may have been in the second quarter - when he was running forward on the wing under no pressure whatsoever and ending up kicking over the head of a one-out Hawkins when he had Stokes streaming inside 50 through the center corridor on his own.

Other than that though he was superlative; the one percenters and general pressure he applied was immense, and there was ample evidence to suggest he has been actively working to address deficits in his game since his first stint in the Geelong senior team.

I remember that one, but even though it wasn't perfect, it went out of bounds which was still a good result. So even when he muffed one, it was still a win to us ;)

The OP was so long ago though :D
I thought it was the North game, was a massive kick that night, even bigger vs Hawks.
I can see his future and its extremely bright IMO.

I was on the flank at the other end and it barely crossed my mind that he might kick it! :)
Suffice it to say that I was happy to be proven wrong.

Nah, he'll never make it, and neither will Duncan, Guthrie, or Blicavs.

lol
My god we are developing them quickly. Cant let Lappin go anywhere!
