ahhaa in another thread you said you thought the opposite. My reaction was one of extreme surprise because waters is better.

Josh at his best >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Waters at his best.

No question.

Josh is not at his best at the moment. He's also been at it 5 years longer than Waters and I would back him in to find his form again.

Josh Carr along with Hasleby and Headland are the obvious targets for opposition taggers. With Des and Hase out the opposition lockdown on Josh. His form has been very disappointing but he needs to stay in the side otherwise Palmer will be the one to receive greater attention from the opposition.

Chris Tarrant along with Pavlich are the obvious targets for opposition backmen. With Tarrant out the opposition lockdown on Pav. His form has been very disappointing but he needs to stay in the side otherwise Pav will be double teamed and receive greater attention from the opposition.

Good to see you coming around. :thumbsu:

Pretty sure Tarrant missed our only win this year and that Pav was BOG in that game.

It's not so much Tarrant I have an issue with, it's the whole saga and the fact that we should never have pursued him in the first place. The arrogance of those involved is staggering.

I'd play him against Geelong, and hope that he plays as well as Medhurst has lately.

Harves should put Josh up against the wall at training this week and give him an ultimatum.

Either he turns back into the niggling, aggressive, mean tagger he was at the start of his career or he can continue being a wannabe playmaker - in the WAFL.

I don't think Josh has the class to be the creative possession gatherer CC tried to turn him into. His disposal seems to be getting worse by the game and he can't even find the ball as much as he used to.

Lets get him back doing what he does best - getting in the face of the opposition. It's what he was born to do and I think we're wasting his mongrel streak playing him as a regular midfielder. We need a top quality tagger and they don't get much better than the Port version of Josh Carr.

That kills two birds with one stone - Josh takes over his brother's tagging duties and Matt makes way for another young midfielder like Foster or Brock.

Do you think the club heirachy has taken the undisciplined tag to far and Josh ,Crowley ,Jeff etc are curbing their natural aggression to the detriment of their game

Jeff I could understand - he does tend to overstep the line occasionally (but only occasionally) when he gets a little hot under the collar - but I'd be very disappointed if Harves has told Crowls and Josh to curb their aggression.

They're both very good at being annoying little shits while keeping their cool and I thought they'd both thrive under a coach like Harves. He and Josh both play at their best when they're constantly at their opponents.

I hope you're not right. I was really hoping Harves would bring out the best in our niggling mongrels - not try to stifle them.

Josh is just another senior player badly out of form. If the lights weren't shining on Tarrant i think he'd be in the spotlight.

He's averaging 14.6 disposals per game.

For the past 3 years at Fremantle he was averaging over 20 disposals per game. And the 2 years before that at Port he was averaging over 18.

Not so much Harves but maybe backroom boys afraid of bad publicity and press backlash re last season.

Might be just that when Haze went down that they (Josh & Crowls) thought they couldn't afford suspensions with a thin midfield.

That isn't so much a worry now so they should be told to niggle to their hearts content. :thumbsu:

Crowls had 11 tackles today though.

Give Josh the job on Corey next week. He's the in an under feeder that gets the ball out to Ablett, Bartel and co.

It'll focus Josh onto the task at hand, and if successful, should give our mids a decent chance at the stoppages.

He's finished as a playmaker... if he can still play a good tagging role then maybe he has a spot next year, if not, we need to cut him from the list. Who is going to go on Ablett? They have like 4 midfielders you need to tag, so we're going to be owned hard I think. But you never know

Give Josh Carr the job on Corey and we are finished, his brother would do a better job. Its all about Strength with Corey. I'd start Crowley on him, but he's bound to work over Crowley, so switch Pav onto him 5 minutes a quarter.

I think they will keep JCarr hoping he can fill bells role when he retires.

I think we need to make a decision on schammer an Jcarr only 1 can stay.

In 2005 or 2006 schammer showed the exact same qualities hes showing now, hard tryer, throws his body in to get the ball, runs hard but shocking disposal.
Connelly kept playing him coz he liked the kid, he was getting booed etc coz when he was getting it he stuffed it up.
Things havent changed except he gets a little more of the ball now.
I love the way he goes about it but geez his decison making an skills are annoying.
Jcarr is pretty much our in an under player at the moment an doesnt sem to be getting much of the ball.

We either get schammer to try an do that role instead of jcarr or trade schammer as he will prob give us a higher pick than Jcarr an keep carr.

I dont think theres room for both of them in the team.

Forget about tagging geelong
Best option is be first to the ball get it quickly into our 50 as often as possible.
Whoever u play on make sure u beat him if everyone just goes out there an beats there opponent they win.

Agree with the sentiment that Josh Carr is finished as a playmaker. He needs to get back into the tagging role that made him a great midfielder. He's too short, too slow and not good enough at clearances/centre breaks to even think about being a playmaker anymore. He's just wasted space if he continues down that line.

He really only played one good game last year and that was in the 2nd derby when he got in the face of Cousins and Kerr. If he can get back to getting in the face of an opponent every week, he will 1. put one midfielder off their game and 2. get himself into the game.

Matt Carr is finished as a tagger IMO so we might as well try Josh in the role and let Crowley take the taller midfielders. Crowls was very good today on Thompson and that late freekick was pathetic. Have been impressed with Crowls work rate this year.

The other player mentioned in this thread, Schammer, just isn't worth a game anymore unless injuries demand it. IMO he can't play on the ball coz he gets knocked off his feet too easily and he's not a good enough forward to bother playing him for that role alone. He is an honest battler but his skills were a big reason we lost the game today - he simply butchered too many inside 50s in the 2nd half and last quarter especially when we were on top of the Crows and looking set to overrun them.

Would not be displeased to see Josh sent back to the magoos next week. Harsh maybe  but he's taking a spot off someone like Brock who would at least have some impact on the game and whatever contest he was involved in.

I have been arguing with a mate, another dockers supporter about Josh Carr. This has been mentioned in other threads but he seems to set himself for the western derbys, his intensity and work rate are exceptional but for 20 other rounds that intensity is missing. I dont think he should be dropped from the side, I would just like to see him play as if every week were a derby.

I think Harvey would be reminding him that 2 shite performances in a row from a senior player is not acceptable.

He'll be back.

i was listening today to 6pr on the way to work after the game and they were talking to robert shaw and he was asked what happened to josh carr, now i know he's not one of the coaches but he said that " josh got heavily tagged out of the game" so maybe he is getting more attention with hase out he also said that they(presumably coaching staff) were really happy with shauny mac's game wich i was a bit surprised at i know he wasn't the worst but didn't think he had done enough to hold his spot.....

Hackdorns rag said he was injured for the latter part of Sat's game. He was completely outrun by Richmond. Played well against WCE and can't remember the first 2 games.

He needs the contest to be on his terms at the moment. But I would back him to play his role when Headland and Hase are back.

Even at Port he was not a high possesion winner.
