Player Reviews: Part 4

Josh Clayton began his second year of development for the Lions by playing for the Reserves in the NEAFL. The 20-year-old earned a senior call-up in Round 22. A hard runner (his GPS results were a consistent strength),Clayton’s ability to run and carry is an asset to his game.

Coach’s notes:

Josh Clayton played mainly across half forward and had stints across half back in the NEAFL. He managed to earn his senior debut in round 22 and played two AFL games, mainly as a half forward. It was a great experience for him to play two games at AFL level and hopefully set him up for bigger and better things for season 2017.

Brisbane begins annual Lion cull
THE Lions have begun their annual delistings, with Ryan Harwood the most experienced player to be informed his contract would not be renewed. Senior listed players Jarrad Jansen, Jonathan Freeman, Josh Clayton and rookie Blake Grewar have also been cut.

Clayton was a father-son selection who made two senior appearances, while Jansen was recruited from Geelong and played eight games for the Lions, the last in Round 19 this year.

Grewar, Jansen, Clayton and Freeman all played in the Lions’ NEAFL grand final win over the Sydney Swans on Saturday night.

Lions general manager of football operations David Noble thanked the players for their service. “This time of the season is always difficult, especially when you have to let good people go,’’ Noble said.
