He might need to keep building at VFL for a while, but for what it's worth I thought he was our best in the VFL last Saturday:
  • His lead, mark and set shot goal in the first was accomplished. His second set shot was a confident drop punt on his wrong side from a sharp angle.
  • The quick pick up along the boundary and in-board pass to Sier was the play of the day. He then won the next clearance and delivered beautifully inside 50 to McLarty.
  • His other passes to inside 50 targets (one to Oxley, one to JDG) were lovely.
  • More generally, I loved that he was always looking to move the ball forward. His one lateral/backward kick was to transition the ball across the ground.
  • He started the game well and he finished it strongly.
He'll need to show this sort of effort under more intense pressure, but I think he has the smarts, balance and poise to take himself to the higher level.

Much like his season to date, I thought he started quietly and built into it. Was arguably BOG in the 2nd half. I'd like to see a 1/4 by 1/4 breakdown in his stats. If he can continue to build on that over the next few weeks there'll be no keeping him out of the seniors.

I haven't watched Josh this yr.. has he put on weight.. height.. does he look more confident.. have his vfl stats improved from last yr..

What's changed?
He definitely hasn't got any taller, he's a solid unit though. Skills have looked above VFL level when I've seen him. Needs to finish better around goals to hold his spot, IMO.

Accept no substitute, not only was it probably the most difficult kick to execute ever, it actually won us a flag, because if he'd missed we would've lost that prelim.
Great goal, but it wasn't a prelim. It was a qualifying final. We had the double chance and would have come back and won the whole thing. We were good!!!!!

It was a team goal. Wouldnt have happened without the assistance of Millane and Brown bulldozing the ball along the boundary line.

It was a QF though so technically we had the double chance. In fact the draw worked to our advantage because Essendon who had had the week off from finishing top and also rested a bunch of players in round 22, had to wait yet another week for the Collingwood-WC replay to be played. So it was a month between games for some Bomber players....
