I like this comparison and agree that there is a similar skill set / physical attributes with Mitchell. Obviously you can’t compare them as productive AFL footballers yet but it’s definitely the model Josh should be aiming for. His tackling has really improved too.

I can't say that I see the comparison. Mitchell was a hard as nails inside mid who hit contests and read the ball drop as well as anyone I've ever seen. Daicos doesn't project that way to me at all. He looks more like a classy link man to me.

Jack Higgins: 18 disposals (12 effective), 4 marks, 4 tackles, 147 meters gained in a 54 point win
Josh Daicos: 23 Disposals (19 effective), 5 marks, 7 tackles, 377 meters gained in a 66 point win

Jack Higgins gets the rising star nom....

Yeah f*ck that biased sh*t right off

Daicos v Higgins, I think we win that in the long run but yeah those stats are revealing.

The thing that intrigued me about the Daicos performance this week was the comment from the coach. If he really absorbed the message as to why he was dropped and changed his game overnight to deal with the problem(s), then I would say we have a star in the making. I can't say that I saw what the changes were - only that Daicos played his best game and really looked a player, but if he really has the capacity to adjust straight away to criticism, then we have a good one.
He will never be allowed to, but I wish that people would leave off the incessant comparisons to his father and let him develop into whatever he will. Gary Ablett was never given this freedom either, so I know its not just us.

You sound surprised.
Why?

James Worpel's game had them both comfortably covered imo:

32 Disposals (28 effective - 14 contested), 2 marks, 4 tackles, 5 I50's, 3 goal assists, 3 clearances, 10 score involvements, 192 meters gained, rated 4th BOG by both coaches in a 72 point win.

Don't get me wrong, both Josh and Jack played well on the weekend, but Worpel was better, even if it was against a poor opponent.

I watcheh the whole game and it wasn't just the numbers - Worpel definitely passed the eye test well and truly and you wouldn't have guessed that he's a 19 year old kid in his rookie season playing just his 4th game at AFL level if you didn't know it already.

Hawks fans should be more dirty.
Worpel: 32 disposals (28 effective) 4 tackles, 3 clearances, 5 inside 50’s, 10 score involvements. He got ripped off. Badly.

Edit: beaten to it!

At this stage of the year RS nominations aren't just for the last game's work.
If that’s the case they need to re-word the selection criteria, because it clearly says that the nomination is meant to go to that weeks stand out performer, not the guy who’s been a solid performer for a while.

Wasn't sure where to post this so go to the son of...

Peter's Moore and Daicos were guests on Libbi Gorr's Sunday show on the ABC. Nothing earth shattering but a few interesting insights if you've got a spare 20 minutes and didn't get to hear it. Starts at about 1:34

You could definitely read a bit into Moore's comments, definitely doesn't hold the club in the same light Daics does. Bit of a bitter old man on the sidelines at kid's footy vibe eminenting from him

I didn't get that from him. More that his interest is focused on Darcy and his endeavours. Would be the same if Darcy was at Collingwood, playing hockey, palying cricket, whatever. More his personality than any bitterness.

Bitter old man is probably the wrong phrasing but I thought he came across pretty negative for the most part, Daics even countered him a few times because Moore was implying he was speaking for both of them at times. I think if there's a decent gap between our offer and say, Sydney's, Pete would be pushing Darcy to follow the cash. Just didn't feel like he had any allegiance to the club.

Anyway, that was just my read, be interested to see what other people think.

Peter Moore has also said his biggest regret in footy (to paraphrase) was leaving Collingwood and not being a 1 club player. I'm not sure he'd be agitating a move for anything other than for whatever makes Darcy happy. If that's money, so be it.

To me the conversation reflects the different backgrounds and attitudes.
Moore is more of a socialite type whereas Daics is a down to earth type who'd give you the shirt of his back.
Darcy running to where the ball isn't comment highlighted it's all about me from Moore.
Both sons maybe cut from the same cloth as their Dads?
Nick Daicos on the other other hand, I've been very reliably informed is very confident in his own ability.

yep, I do get the impression Mr Moore(s) is a fair way up himself....
