And when/if the current Dunkley trade goes through, we will see his true value this whole time.

The argument he was contracted so he "worth" more is ridiculous.
It's not ridicuous in the slightest. Contracted players are traded for more than their "worth" basically every time.

i dont have an issue with asking more for a contracted player, i think that is fair and reasonable.

its the level of more that was stupid in regards to Dunkley. Asking for 2 first rounders (2 x top 10's to be clear) without giving anything back for a player that's not even achieved a single AA selection is utterly insane.

No dogs supporter can come on here with a straight face and say that would have been a fair trade, even considering he was contracted.

He was contracted to the Bulldogs, nothing about a trade has to be "fair". You want him, you pay the asking price. Better yet, you ask the price before going public and ending up with egg on your face.

Yes look clubs have a right to ask for more than he's worth.
In this case though Essendon offered a first and the 2nd rounder, which was the extra.

The expectation that Dodoro and Essendon should have paid 2 top 10s is ludicrous.

'What's fair' and 'what it will take' are separate issues when a player is contracted.

Different story when OOC.

You make it seem like you had a right to trade him if the price is fair? You didn’t. Instead you botched it by chasing him publicly with a deal we openly wouldn’t accept.

The only ludicrous thing here is the public failure of Essendon towards another target player.

We offered the dogs an extra 2nd rounder.
Our duty to him, the dogs, and the "public" was fulfilled from our end.

Players are almost certainly worth more when contracted.

Having said that, talk of getting a player for free or walking him to the draft are equally absurd when they aren’t contracted.

Dunkley is a fine player, and will fetch a very decent price if and when traded.

It won’t however be two firsts.

Or you walk away.

We didn’t just choose Dunkley, Dunkley chose us. So whilst it’s entirely OK for dogs to demand a stupid price, it’s also entirely OK for Essendon to walk away.

Just because you chase a player doesn’t mean you pay an unreasonable price.

Conversely, just because a club is chasing your contracted player doesn't mean you'd give him up for what that club thinks he's worth.

I don’t disagree with that, but the notion Essendon somehow have egg on their face for not paying a stupid price is laughable.

They would have looked far dumber doing the deal than not.

And yet you traded two first rounders for Dylan Shiel. Explain that one!!!
Dunkley is a far more accomplished player than Shiel. Far more.
Dodoro was doing a lot of wheeling and dealing with Saad, Stringer and Smith in 2017. Low-balling the Dogs on the Stringer deal with Stringers personal issues used as a bargaining chip by the unscrupulous jacket wearer.
So in 2017 and 2018, Essendon tipratted through many clubs and blamed others when trades held up or couldn't get done.
Always they feel as they are entitled for some reason. If there was any club that shouldn't feel entitled it's Essendon. But there you go.

In hindsight the Shiel trade was bad, just as in Hindsight paying 2 top 10's for Dunkley would have been Bad. Both of their disposal with the ball is dog s**t, that's about the only thing they have in common.

To Shiels Credit, he was an AA the year before we got him. Dunkley has no AA against his name, and his form is no where near as good as it was the year we went after him, though is suspect alot of that is because he was played fwd rather than mid full time.

Also we got a 2nd rounder back with Shiel, the dogs wanted 2 x top 10 picks straight up.

And none of that was relevant or related to the Dunkley deal.

Tipping that is an error that wouldn't want to make again.

Indeed they would have.

The asking price was a pretty fair indication that the Dogs didn't want to trade him.

Haha, correct.....But they traded a second rounder back:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Shiel AA year....Wowee
Must have been a dud year.

I see Dunkley won a flag a couple of years before and has been in AA squads. Runner up in B&F in 2019. 2nd behind Bont is as good as a B&F at any other club.
