Recommitted Josh Dunkley [contracted and staying at the Western Bulldogs]

I think Essendon have missed their chance with Dunkley. I still think he'll try to be traded to another club though. Geelong seem like a good fit imo.
Great replacement for Cotch if he retires.

Why they have Cripps the best contested midfielder in the comp plenty of other holes they need to plug first like getting a quality ruckman
Carlton’s midfield is probably the worst in the league and that’s taking into account cripps being a top 5 mid. Murphy and curnow are still getting games in there. Setterfield is ok, walsh will be a good mid but still plays on the wing most games. Kennedy sucks. Think cripps really needs some help in there

Curnow is playing some very good footy still and if we are playing a tagger then there aren’t many better in the league. If not then we really need to find someone else, mainly because he is already 31.
Walsh needs to play midfield, far too good to be stuck out on a wing. Setterfield atm probably gets beaten head to head 8 times out of 10 so still needs massive improvement to become a full time mid. Williams I guess we are hoping he performs in the midfield as well as he did in 2019 but there is a risk that will not happen.

Imo our three starting mids should be Cripps, Walsh and Williams. If we need a tagger then Curnow goes in. It’s far from the best but it’s not horrible. Our problem is outside of Setterfield we have nothing we can really rely on to do much more then chop out for small amounts of time. Adding two starting mids this season in Walsh and Williams though if a pretty good start.

Edit. Dow, Philp, Kemp, Setterfield and Stocker are all first round picks, inside midfielders brought in over the last few years. Considering we already have Cripps, Willliams and Walsh, in 12 months I would hope an inside midfielder isn’t a need but if it is we have made some pretty big mistakes. Chasing Graham this season already points to us not being overly confident with what we have and if we had half a million for him I think we could find abit more for Dunkley if he is needed.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Carlton will be inquiring about Josh Dunkley at the end of next year

Wonder if they still carry big cap space after recruiting Saad and Williams.
With Cripps signature pending, they might prioritize other areas than go for Dunkley.

That’s why I think Dunkley stays at the dogs any Victorian club that’s contending for finals doesn’t have the cap space and the clubs that do hawthorn north will be bottom 4 and you would think dodoro and Essendon have burnt there bridges with dunkley as well there not looking like playing finals anytime soon!

The Dunkley’s have already shown they’re willing to go to a poor team for cash so I wouldn’t rule out teams down the bottom with cap space.

Hope we have no kids on our list with a total 🔔🔚 like Andrew Dunkley as a father.

It's always the forum ITK's

You know. The same ITK's that knew Shiel was going to Carlton. Then knew Whitfield and Coniglio were going to Hawthorn.
Or completely different ITKs that keep their info to what they actually know and the club boards they know and not speculating on trade boards. Posters who claim to know trade info and those that have a link to a specific club are different beasts.

And who exactly would they be?

It's just logical though, isn't it? Bombres got Josh Dunkley to nominate them, putting himself out there publicly and having to answer questions about why he wanted to leave the Doggies. Which led to more questions... "So, what's actually wrong with the culture then?"... and made him look either a bit precious, or like a mercenary. Then Essendon just left him hanging without even a serious offer for the Dogs to consider.

Burning Bridges 101 with Professor Dodoro - This subject introduces students to the fundamentals of the burning of bridges, using a problem-based learning approach that focuses on extensive use of examples from practice and detailed case studies. Three essential themes are used to cover the course material: overview of appropriate structural forms for bridge burning; fuel load and burn rate analysis models/methods for designing burning and quantifying structural behaviour; and state-of-the-art technologies in bridge burning and destruction. The course material has been developed jointly by specialist bridge burners from the Centre for Destroyed Infrastructure.
In addition, students will discover three tried and true methods to thoroughly burn your bridges:
1. The "bend them over when you don't have to sell" approach that allows you to hold assets even though they really want to leave.
2. The "two firsts for a fringe".
3. The "get them to nominate us, then offer their club peanuts".

All of which Dodo was aware of before chasing Dunkley.
Maybe learning to read the landscape a little better would be a good start by Essendon

I get the sense the Bulldogs simply weren't going to trade Dunkley unless an irresponsible offer landed at the feet.

Don't know why people are still so upset by it, it's the nature of professional sport.

Correct, the first time in history a club has had exclusive access to a pick 1 player, without having the first selection in the draft.

Any other year and that offer gets it done though.
I was more talking about contract lengths / statuses, players about to reach Free Agency status, players actively wanting out of clubs etc, but, I'm sure you knew that and chose to ignore it....

So no, it doesn't get it done.

People aren't upset by it, discussing things with facts doesn't make someone upset about it.

Dodo was always going to have to pay overs - you want to land a contacted player that the club wanted to keep you can't offer market rates.

Every chance this is just another dodo error to add to his long list of errors.

Shiel & Neale were both still under contract, and had more proven history than Dunkley. The offer was quite a reasonable one given on form Neale & Shiel were more valuable players yet Dunkley attracted a trade offer on par with those two, and that Dunkley appeared to have been pushed out of the middle by other players.

The anomaly is the first time in history NGA player in JUH, meaning the clubs weren't dealing in the same currency.

A number of people really are. You may not be one of them, but there's plenty still posting about it that get quite worked up.
