Josh made his AFL debut in Round 20 in 2011 with consistent performances in the reserves recognised by Coach Nathan Clarke on multiple occasions. It was hoped that the 2012 season (his 3rd season) would be a springboard to more top level exposure and continued evolution from a small framed half forward into a solid midfield contributor. Josh finally had an injury free this season playing in 20 NEAFL games kicking truly for 20 goals while being named in amongst the Team Best a total of 4 times.
With the emergence of Zorko, Crisp and Josh Green amongst others in the seniors it was always going to be a tough task for Josh to add to his 1 game. Not deterred and often oblivious to a light body which has refused to gain bulk, he has continued to dive into packs, present as a leading player, win the hard ball and kick key goals much to the admiration of team mates and coach alike. Josh kicked 3 goals on 3 occasions for the Ressies which garnered great praise from the coaching staff but was often on a midfield rotation that included names such as Beams, Buchanan and Karnezis. Hence, he often struggled to stand out in a dominant NEAFL reserve side often winning in blow outs.
Josh has a quality AFL standard left boot that delivers lace out passes to Cornelius, Lisle and Retzlaff but due to his stature he often does get pushed off the ball and out of contests. In an ever increasing demand for solid on ball players that exert physicality on stoppage contests around the ground it has seemingly combined to prevent Josh from continuing next season as a Brisbane Lion. Josh was delisted from the playing list upon season end and should be congratulated on his efforts along with the best of luck in his playing future.
