Isnt that delightful.

Pavlich springs to mind! and we could have had him had we not chosen to trade teh pick to richmond for bloody McKee!!!

I wonder what woudl have happened had johnathan brown not chosen to go as a father son! we surely would have picked him up!?

hasleby
cameron ling
cameron bruce
brad green

and teh current bulldogs list had some quality players from that draft! eg (Murphy, Hargrave, Giansiracussa, Gilbee)!

The 1999 draft wasnt as bad most think! The four that i have named are players that coudl have potentially been taken above fraser, but there are many more good players in that draft!

if if if

I think the question is, what is happening with Guy Richards? If Hall or Fanning - two non-recognised ruckman in the AFL, get injured, the only replacement not playing from rnd 16 is he, and we know the injury prone player was good in his debut season, 2004.

please correct me if im wrong but Cam Bruce was plucked from the amateurs, and green and ling werent in the top 10 (not sure though)

we picked Danny Roach up with the "prized" pick 7 in that draft, after trading pick 3 and Clinton King to Richmond for pick 7 and Steve McKee

Paul Hasleby went at 2, Aaron Fiora at 3, Matthew Pavlich at 4, and Leigh Brown at 5, so besides Fiora some handy players could have been taken then if we didnt waste pick 3 or 7

just referred to the 2004 AFL stats book, and notable picks in '99 draft included:

1. Fraser
2. Hasleby
3. Fiora
4. Pavlich
5. Leigh Brown
6. Cupido to Brisbane
7. Danny Roach
8. Joel Corey
9. Caydn Beetham (Saints)
10. Luke McPharlin to Hawthorn
13. Robert Murphy
18. Rhyce Shaw (father son)
19. Brad Green
30. Jonathon Brown (father son)
32. Daniel Giansiracusa
34. Leon Davis
37. Mitch Hahn
38. Cameron Ling
40. David Hille
43. Lindsay Gilbee
50. Matthew Whelan
62. Ben Johnson
64. Cameron Bruce
66. Ryan Hargrave

highlighted David Hille, as ive read a few things on the fact Essendon very happy they got him there, and rate him equal to or better than Fraser, what do Pies supporters think?

as everyone knows, hindsight is a wonderful thing, if only we could travel back in time, and get that pick 3 back, and get Pavlich! heck, even Leigh Brown would be handy

yeah im bored, i know, interesting to see Ben Johnson and Cam Bruce go so late, very happy finding Benny Johnson there, and highlighted those Bulldogs players magpies42 mentioned

as for fraser been out for the year, well for the best probably, his season was shot to bits anyway, no real need to bring him back at all now, no finals for us, just let himself get completely right and firing for pre-season

as for Stretch....that guy has had no luck with injury, or getting on the park in general, in his career, and just another shocker for him. And it is different to Josh i reckon, if Stretch is right, id like to see him get on the park for a couple of games for confidence sake

Yeah i think you are right but i wasn't saying who was taken top 10 i was stating who woudl have been a better option then fraser.

As for Richards sum tipsters thought he would go around pick 8 and we picked him up at pick 37 from memory so give him time, he is a good player but he must get his body right!

Will he ever get his body right?? He's been on the list for what, 5-6 years? If he hasnt got it right by now, just give up on him.

Good potential, but he's almost approaching that age where potential needs to start being realised

and please moderators. Can we please enforce a rule to ensure picks 3 and 7 in that draft are never mentioned again?

now, not that i don't like josh, I actually like him
but what was the other 9 draft picks in the top 10 that year and any one else outside of the ten who now star

And prior to the draft that year you were advocating that we should not pick Josh - right?

Josh was the best player in australia at the time of the draft and we needed a ruckman so we had to take him it was the right choice. He dominated at under 18 level and it has harder for a bigman to come in and dominate eg Jeff White he has had 2 good years been around for 10,gardiner has had 1 good year and been around for 7 or so Fraser is better than Hill and has shown at times he is very talented. His 100 game killed spider Josh had 22 touches 30 ho 8 marks and 2 goals and just looked so agile.

WRONG
if you read all the post i said i like him and as lemon say he was the best player in it at the time.
would have been silly not to take him
with the amount of good games hes had no doubt mike shehan and the bitch writers(i don't mean females either) would have shyt canned us for not taking him

fraser got old quick. hes a bit of a nothing player not really suited anywhere ******** in ruck ******** down forward ********ing big waste of number 1 draft pick

I forgot about that. Back then, you used to have to use a second round pick on father-sons. A couple of years back, who would've thought Rhys Shaw would more than justify his #18 spot?

Give josh a break! Talls take alot longer to mature and play good footy! he will be a great player one day! Neither Gardiner and White were much better at his age! give him a chance to play un-injured and he will prove his worth!
