Clearly needs a fair bit of fitness but I love his willingness to take the game on and break the lines. His field kicking on the run is pretty good but needs to take those 1 or 2 steps to settle when having a shot.

Agree, had he done that he probably would have slotted 2 or 3.

Having Greeny and Tinka running around in our side for the next 8 years together is going to be truly amazing!! We are really going to see some amazing things. They are both little terrier's who put so much pressure on the opposition, they attack the ball and they really take the game on and kick some goals!

Josh Green - Another of 'our' sponsored players attracting a crowd at the Vic Players Sponsors function after the carlton game - Aug2012

Vice-Captain Jed Adcock and youngsters Claye Beams and Josh Green have all signalled their commitment to the Brisbane Lions by signing extended deals with the Club this week.

With every game he plays he seems to become more of a genuine small forward. Originally, I thought it was quite obvious that he was a midfielder playing forward. It seems like its becoming natural for him no though.

Good to see him getting his name on the score sheet every week as well.

Was firmly a reserves player at the beginning of the season, but he has risen just as quickly as Zorko, starting with his sub effort in the WC game.
Green's progress through this year has been impressive and is a credit to him. He did things today that he would've stuffed up in the ressies earlier this year.

He is one that seems to be learning from each game, getting his fitness up as well. It's his positioning that I love, he is where he should be, and still gets up the ground to link up. Banfield needs to watch green play.

Joshua Green. Recruited at Pick 32 in the 2010 ND. Now 20yo. Listed in the Record at 179cm and 80kg. Debuted Round 9 in 2011 and during that season played 5 games in total.

Josh was never the stereotypical body size or shape for a modern-day footballer, and so perhaps started somewhat behind the 8 ball. However it is worthwhile revisiting some of the comments made prior to and just after the 2010 ND: our very own Quigley suggested way back then that Green was the best inside mid in the ND. Other comments: "speed, ability to win the hard ball", "another Boomer Harvey?", "extractor of the hard ball", "quick to put ball to boot", "never loses his feet", "clean hands".

All very prescient remarks as has been subsequently shown.

Inherited Luke Power's famous Number 6 jumper in 2012 [a non-too subtle comment by the coaching staff?]. And perhaps some of the responsibility that goes with that. After a series of consistent Reserves performances in early season, got the nod in Round 8. Played a total of 12 games for the season.

Highlights for the 2012 year include an 18 possession effort v GWS in his first game for the year, and 3 goals each in Round 22 v PA and Round 10 in the famous victory v WC in Round 10. In that WC game Green came off the bench as sub in the last quarter if memory serves.

Green copped some criticism this year from our erstwhile local expert, Andrew Hamilton, as perhaps not having developed at the speed of some of his other competitors out of the 2010 ND. To be fair, noone would contend that Green is in any way the finished article. He is very much a work in progress. But at the same time, progress is being made. Good progress. He secured 15 goals for the season, and averaged 11.3 possessions [although some distortion to these stats must be allowed for given his 3 appearances as sub]. Even so, solid stats, but not spectacular.

Some of his good points: excellent, no-fumble hands- the pill seems to fall into his hands in just the right position. Knows where the goals are. Hits the ball at pace. Fearless. Finding his way at the feet of the big men in the forward line and therefore his game role. Gaining the fitness levels required. May have acquired some good links with his fellow small man, Zorko. Good defensive skills. Not a selfish ball user. See also the above predictions.

The not so good: not enough of the ball. Rarely marks. Seems to flit in and out of games. More consistency needed. Defining his role further.

In summary, it seems pretty obvious to this observer that Green probably won't ever be another Rich, or perhaps even another Zorko. Then again, any good side is made up of players who each contribute in their own way. My comments should not be taken to downplay Josh's actual and potential role as a hard-hitting goal sneak, a role that has not been filled adequately, IMHO, with the Lions for some time. If he is able to build on his KPI's, the principal one being that of kicking goals, I'm confident the coach will be happy. A player that should contribute to team balance and dynamics, and success over a long period.

The evidence shows Green may have found his spot in the forward line, not necessarily the one some predicted, but one that he seems well-equipped to make his own. Maybe an occasional run through the middle might be on the cards in future proceedings, fitness allowing. The in-and-under skills for which he was first noted are certainly still there.

It should also be noted he seems to have a freakish psychic link with Lisle. In the reserves it would often be Green -> Lisle to goal or the other way around.

This trend seems to be continuing in the seniors where these two boys are able to pin point some awesome passes onto the head other the other even when the kick is difficult or hard to spot or involves some crazy angles...

I can't believe I am saying this but I think Tassie is underselling the Taswegian.

Green played the difficult small forward role pretty well and progressed really nicely in that role as the year went on. He also showed some real ability at the clearances in some cameos. It is worth mentioning that he was a dominant midfielder at NEAFL level when playing in the reserves and with some extra miles in the legs this offseason there is no reason to believe that he might not become a very good option to swing through the midfield next year when we want to rotate things around. I think if he had been thrown into the midfield this year he would have shown more but he was given a role to do by Voss and he did it pretty well and improved as the year went on. With more opportunity I think he will be a very good player for us.

I'm am very bullish about Green too, Quigley, but I don't think he is fit enough yet to play significant periods in the midfield. But I am quite confident that is where he will be playing in the next year or two.

I agree. While he clearly developed as a small forward over the course of this season, his game naturally lends itself towards clearances, so he'll get more of a run through there and have more of an impact as time goes on.

That's certainly where his heart lies anyway.
