Jackson Bird has to be shaking his head. Needs to move back to the mainland to get a call up due to the ridiculous notion he is only taking wickets due to Tassie green tops.

Bird, Bird, Bird, Bird, Bird is the word.
Well we have to put up with the notion that SA batsman only gets runs because they get to play on Adelaide Oval for years...

And yet our fast bowler doesn't get a concession for it.....

Hazelwood was ahead of Starc and Cummings before he got injured 2 seasons ago. Didnt think he hd done much since but the guys on 'inside cricket' said he has impressed lately.
i get the impression that stu clark goes for his mates a lot. starc should definitely be in the team, no doubt but.

Lyon will definitely play now that Watson has been bowling in the nets, the real questions are, how will Siddle pull up? and who replaces hilfenhaus?

For mine the changes will be
IN Watson/Starc/Hastings
OUT Quiney/Pattison/Hilfenhaus

There is a little voice in the back of my head saying they're going to pick Johnson which I'm trying desperately to shut up.

I think we will be cautious with Watson first game back so sadly I still think we will go 4 quicks..

But I agree with changes you suggested there...

If they pick Johnson it will be pretty unbelievable. He was dropped because he was woefully inconsistent. To pick him based on one good performance is crazy.

Also the next person I see whinge about NSW bias gets banned.

I jsut want to know what Hazelwood and Johnson have done to get themselves called up before others who are actually performing? Bugger them being from any state in particular I don't think blokes should be picked who are not in proven form, not because of what happened in the past and if that happened neither of Hazelwood or Johnson would of got a call up.

Hazlewood has bowled far better than his figures tbh. Outbowled Starc at shield level (well so has Bollinger but that's another matter) and hasnt been helped by two matches on absolute roads (Bankstown and a lifeless SCG).

Doesnt mean I would pick him, I think in 24 months or so he'll be ready to slot into the side but he doesnt have the wickets behind him at this point to justify selection, but he's a very good bowler.

And they are reasonable questions. Saying that it's because of NSW bias is not reasonable.

I don't get the Hastings selection. He has been in good from this summer but there are others who should be selected ahead of him. He is clearly a favourite of someone in the Australian set up. Hazelwood has been selected on potential, why can't they pick batsmen on potential and piss Ricky off?? I'll let the Johnson selection slide only because it is in Perth.

I can't understand why people are suprised at the Hastings selection? A bowling average of 22 compared to Hazlewoods 33. Hastings is in form, Hazlewood is not. Hastings also has 26 as a batting average. I would have Bird in front of both anyway.

Hastings is 5 games back from major injuries and players like Bird and Cutting have performed well for several years not just 5 games.

Hastings has performed for years as well, he was right on the cusp when he got injured, the fact he has returned from injury and picked up where he left off would excite the selectors

Doubt he was on the cusp. I saw him bowling in ODI cricket for Australia. You would hardly think that his bowling is worthy of a baggygreen. Bowls rubbish. Shit gets wickets though so another Victorian bowling Pies like Siddle might work.

Well I did say I'd have Bird in the side...? Also, Hastings didn't get all his wickets in the his last 5 games, he has been a good bowler for a few years now. I think he got the nod because of his batting. Would be a handy number 8. Same for Johnson.

If everyone is fit I'd go

Warner
Cowan
Clarke
Ponting
Watson
Hussey
Wade
Johnson
Siddle
Hilfy
Lyon

You been watching much cricket in the last 18 months? Siddle is our first bowler picked and the man Clarke looks to when he needs a break through. No one in Australia deserves to be picked before him.

Agreed.

Hastings is ticking along ok but you can only presume they think Bird would lack penetration at the next level, thus say picking someone with an inferior record but strike ability like Starc ahead of him makes sense but not Hastings, no way. A poster above said Hastings in for Hilfenhaus, I just don't see what he offers above Hilfy, they are similar stock medium pacers with the old ball, and you just wouldn't throw the new cherry to Hastings.
