I can't understand why we must hate our own players. A couple of my friends are guilty on all counts when it comes to player bashing and it does my head in. If they're on our list, I'll cheer for them and forgive them for making mistakes (we all do it).

There is one exeption... Sam Hunt, I want him delisted immediately but that is because I have a personal problem with him.

i got him one for you i was at KP over pre season and found a nice looking footy with the name sam hunt on it. It was a nice match ball with the "target" symbol on. thanks for the ball sam.

Wow a quality player in Brown took a mark against him and he goaled from it! Yes because every player that has a goal scored on them is obviously a hack and should be dropped immediately. The complete stupidity of some supporters is incredible. Crawl back in your hole.

100% agreed.

Hunt really couldn't do much about the contest in question here.

If we played a side like West Coast or Sydney I am not so sure he copes well with that sort of quick delivery into the forward 50...

No defender copes well when there's quick delivery into the forward line.. If a quick forward gets lace out delivery on the lead into an open forward line, it doesn't matter who the defender is.. When referencing Sydney and West Coast in the past, these teams would have most likely beaten us in clearances and moved the ball quickly into the forward line, or forced turnovers meaning our defenders have little time to react.

6/10 is harsh. Hunt held Brown (Richmond's best player) for a lot of the day, got 14 touches and scored 85 effectiveness (champion data) for the day, which is very good and outscored Brown. We'd all like to see him running forward and getting more touches ala Wojo/Milburn etc but its not that easy when you're marking a player of Brown's caliber.

If it's personal, and you don't say why, then why mention it? Can appreciate if it's too close to home to explain, but to not explain and bring up the point is a little confusing

I was just stating that there is one exception to my rule of supporting all Geelong players. I never sh*t on a player for being in poor form or not being as good as other squad members. My dislike for Sam Hunt is on a personal level, not a performance level. There is no exciting story behind it, so I see no need to elaborate. Just didn't want someone who knows me to call me a hypocrite for saying I always support all Geelong players.

(and there are a couple on here who know me).

He was best man at my nephew's wedding so he's in as far as I'm concerned!

They say The Tigers eat their own but there's a fair bit of it on here, and probably at every club.

King, Ling, Hunt, Tenace, Byrnes, have all copped it, as did too many more to menschion (forgive me, couldn't resist:D).

I hate being at the footy when someone is just paying out on a player, our team or theirs. Not necessary.

You don't honestly believe they're not trying do you?

AFL footy is very tough and I don't think too many BF posters have played at the top level, but are more than ready to criticise or lay the boots in.

I like Josh. He may not be our best player but nor is he our worst.

:D

(26 and counting, I'm on a mission to shed the "newbie" tag and give myself some credibility!)

Unfortunately credibility doesn't come free with a high post count.

Fortunately you won't need free credibility if you continue to post like you did just before :)

I agree with you here. Anyone would find it difficult playing defensively against the Eagles or Swans of recent times. My intention is not to be negative about Hunt he might well become the pick of our fringe players so to speak come September. My logic is based on very tight finals that often go one way or the other based on the little things. My point is picking sides/players to suit the opposition.

My real concern is opposition sides targeting him to go one out in the forward 50. He is better working in support with others.

For what it's worth I think Hunt has shown gradual improvement from his first hit out against the Pies....I hope that continues.

Yes, but the better sides are drilled to exploit the weaker guys down back. Separate them and get them playing to their weaknesses. They would try to isolate Hunt and thats just a fact of life.

Football is about what you said playing as a team but its also way more advanced tactically than what some people like to post on this board. There are reasons Hunt hasnt been in the side this year and its not just about his kicking.

i think he has been under the pump ever since he ducked last year.

How true my friend. Most people on here go beyond the development of a player to bring out only their frailties, instead of seeing both sides of the player.

I believe in Josh Hunt, I believe that when going full speed no one can tackle a guy his size and bring him down. He needs to see that and try it more often.

He is down a bit on his confidence, however as I said earlier he is near our best 22 players when going well. I hope he gets to that level before the finals.

i think hunt is fighting for the small defender role with DJ and i think i would prefer to see hunt in the team.

I agree.
I think Hunt is more versatile and more skilled. Love DJ's spirit and his competitiveness but I think Josh has the edge everywhere else...
Also, DJ might pull his patented "fly for the ball over the top of 2 players while my man stays down" moves, which he does often and which I hate...

how often does he do that?

even seen him leave his man to jump into a pack of 4-5 players, while his opponent gets an easy crumbing goal.

It's a bit selfish if you ask me.
Like it's courageous and all but user your head.
It's pretty simple, if you're playing on a small forward (and he usually does), chances are majority of the time you're opponent is gonna be front and centre.
Or at least he'll be in a position to crumb...

Honestly, I don't see him as a selfish player - I just think he is not great at quick decision making and what he does choose to do is often a little late -and boy! Do we notice! And Hunt is not a consitent head dropper - ignore that criticism of him - but I wish he'd use his brick-dunny frame a bit more effectively as I'd like to see him go up a notch. as I said, perhaps he is limited by lack of nous. He would not be playing if they thought he deliberately avoided certain options - just makes the odd poor choice!
