But do you simply think we'll just let what happened against the Roos happen again against the Dogs?

If it does, we're done. I'll become your biggest follower because something will click inside my head, I swear to god.

But even in the North game we responded. I remember sitting there (in the stands, at the game, like you) thinking at 3/4 time we need to kick 7 goals to win here. We did, which was great (just North kept kicking goals too.)

I only caught the last quarter, but it seemed to me he was paranoid that Fasolo would be about to run off? This may have been due to the fact that he was injured and wouldn,t have been up for the chase.
Also I thought he may have touched the ball before it was marked- Maybe thats' why he played on? Took a while for the whistle to sink in? Must watch it again.
We are a little harsh on the guy. As has been pointed out before mistakes in the back half are always by nature , more damaging.
I still think he is in our best 22. Bit worried he didnt make the distance with that shot on goal though

It was said his kick for goal was touched off the boot??
Some are critical of his "soft" attempts at tackling?? This is the same monster who was throwing his weight around, performing tackles that used to be lauded, and he cops weeks. Fair enough he could be a liitle pensive at times when he should just go along his natural instincts.

And yes , I agree Chaos, we won't just let it happen v Dogs, but NM were powerless to stop their ferocity and speed. It must just depend on the day, we all know that, but do we actually have the legs, the speed, the personnel to run with the Dogs and beat them THIS WEEK?

Hunt had a shocker last night but the OP stuff about lazy etc is rubbish and OTT.

I do agree with DTC in the other thread that maybe he was injured, when Josh's kicks don't make 50 that tends to make you think so.

Regardless, he won't be dropped next week, we have enough kids in the side as it is and dropping Josh for one more (who would probably be Smedts and doesn't look ready) isn't going to help. That said, if he doesn't turn his form around by the time Varcoe Wojo etc are back then maybe his spot might not be secure, but he's safe enough for the time being.

Legs yes, speed no, personnel yes. Do they have the finesse and efficiency that we do? Perhaps not.

I think why the opening poster is so dirty on Hunt (and quite understandable) is that for 3 quarters we were totally outplayed and should have been further behind -the players rally magnificently and with a bit over a minute to go we draw level -at that point i would have put my house superannuation Boat ,dog the lot on Geelong to win the game -and then Josh Hunt does something that only FECKIN Josh Hunt can do-something stupid -which robs the club of any chance of winning a critical game . I reckon if Barrassi was coaching us -he wouldnt speak to Josh Hunt for a Month

It was only 2010 Dogs were fellow losers in a Prelim. They have lost Brad Johnson and Barry Hall, but they have found some handy "replacements", and Dahlhaus, Cordy, Wallis, Dickson, Picken and Libber are good value. Griffen and Lake are back to their best.

The rule is that until the umpire calls play on, it is not play on. Therefore, Hunt tackling Fasolo before he heard the umpire called play on was a stupid mistake that cost us a chance at the game. The umpire made the correct decision under the rules, and Hunt should know better. His fault.

Maybe you think the rule is terrible, which would be fair enough. It is.

I'm aware of what the rule is, and to the letter of the law it probably was a 50. But in the spirit and context of the game it should not have been paid. A 50m like that may be paid half the time - definitely not always. Earlier in the game, Thomas punched the ball into the crowd after a teammate kicked OOF. Free kick to us but no 50m. Why the inconsistency, since both were probably technically there?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the loss on one umpiring decision. Our poor second quarter and worse goal conversion- particularly in Q4 (who has 23 inside 50s in a single quarter?) - cost us. But no doubt the Fasolo 50 was the biggest decision of the game at the most crucial moment. The best thing about Q4 of the 2009 GF (aside from the result!) was that the umpires put the whistle away. They could have paid 10 free kicks either way that were technically there but they let the players play - for the most part they did the same thing last night which is why I was so disappointed by the 50.

Hunt looked like he played injured. The clue should be he could not kick long.

Smedts played virtually no VFL before coming into the seniors. I think he has played well up until last night, but he needs to be back in the VFL.

West has rucked tirelessly this season and looked like he needed a break. You try doing it as a lone hand for 8 weeks and tell me about it.

Motlop is very skilled, but still too light and avoids contact. Varcoe in for Motlop when the going gets tough.

Hunt is an incredibly overrated kick in terms of distance with the drop punt. He creates an illusion because he likes to spear low passes that get tho their target quickly, however, I'd be generous to give 55m as his max distance kick.

In terms of the game, I'm more disappointed in Bille Smedts. I hope I'm wrong, but he looks soft especially in some of the contest I saw and his kicking is questionable under pressure it seems. This isn't just based on this game but on all the other games I've seen him involved in.

He's still a matchstick playing what- his 5th game? Give it a spell for a little longer perhaps.

I hate 50 metre penalties, they should be revised. The ridiculous penalty for an interchange infringement, the Hunt one, the one SJ got for the slightest of infringements after taking a mark, pathetic, and frustrating.

Trying to find something in your post I agree with.

I failed.

50m penalties maybe harsh but are there for prevention.

however, i do agree that 50m for interchange penalties are hilariously bad.

Josh made a couple of errors last night but his positives always outweigh his negatives and he is a very important part of our backline.

FWIW I thought the late 50m penalty was terrible - Fasolo clearly played on. Hunt should not be victimized for it.

The positives used to outweigh the negatives but I think they've been going the other way for a couple of years now. He's an important part of Geelong's backline insofar as we don't have anyone better at present to fill the void, doesn't mean he's a good defender.

The 50m was there everyday of the week, Fasolo just a bit too smart for Hunt, I'd suggest that in the same situation a lot more players from any team would have given away the same 50m.

Lloyd & Crawford just roasted Hunt for not going in hard enough on the Sunday footy show, all but missed the last 10 seconds. Anyone else see it & report on what was said?

Scoreboard aside I think Geelong were only outplayed during the second quarter.

Geelong was dominating the last quarter but a lot of that was due to kicking points and doing really well at trapping the ball in our front half.
With the goal to draw level the ball was started out of the centre from where Geelong was beaten convincingly all night in terms of centre clearances.
So for me at that point it was a toss of the coin.
Unfortunately the coin fell the Pies way this time.

Agree mostly.
Maybe there should be 50 for gross infringements.
And a 25 for marginal infringements.
But that would add even more complication for umpires.

I'm not so concerned about the interchange infringement.
It is tough on the field not to infringe sometimes.
But it is very easy for a player to get it right at the interchange gate.

Hunt seems to be the type over the years whose confidence can suffer.
When he is confident he is great value and he has contributed very solidly to the Cats including a couple of finals series and grand finals.
But he has also benefited a couple of times over the journey by being dropped, regaining touch and confidence, and then returning.

He played quite poorly in general and I think Scott will be sorely tempted to drop him. Particularly with Scarlett coming back.
The problem is, as has been widely pointed out, that Smedts looks like he needs to be dropped too.

If Hunt is injured as has been suggested then he should definitely be out.
Confidence players will not be confident if they are injured.

If hunt didnt go at fasolo and he got the handball away we'd all say he was lazy?
If the umpire was on the ball he would've called play on?
Game of inches...
I still reckon josh is going ok, def best 22

If he's injured, he'll be rested, no doubt.
If fit, he'll be in.
Nothing too complex there.

You're probably right, doesn't make it the correct decision though.

I guess we need all hands on deck with regards to experienced players, but if Christensen is available along with Scarlett those two in for Smedts and Hunt looks a fair call IMO.

Rather play a kid who will most likely have a red hot go then someone simply because he has experience yet drops his head.
